A cover letter is an introductory letter that highlights your key unique qualities and gives your resume or CV a chance to be read and considered for the desired position.

As important as the cover letter is, a lot of people reduce their chances by making one of these 3 mistakes when writing a cover letter.

1. Focusing too much on yourself: Boosting your personal qualities is not relevant here instead, write about how you can use your skills to improve the company.

2. Keep it Professional: Keep everything formal and professional including your email address. 65% hiring managers admit them not to open an email address that is unprofessional. Therefore use a professional email address with your full name, for instance, samuelchita@yahoo.com instead of freshboysammy@yahoo.com

3. Typos: This one sounds simple enough, but you need to take time to triple check that you've addressed your cover letter to the right person, and that everything is spell checked and grammar correct. In fact, 70% of hiring managers say they'd automatically dismiss a cover letter with a typo.
