Presidency on Saturday said the Osisioma Ngwa pipeline has been vandalized a total of 684 times within the last six months

Presidency stated this in a statement where President Muhammadu Buhari expressed regret over what he described as “the unnecessary loss of lives and property as a result of the pipeline explosion in the Osisioma Ngwa community of Abia State Friday morning”

The President however , expressed sympathy with those who lost loved ones in the latest act of vandalism

The statement which was signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said preliminary reports by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) show that the incident was not an accidental explosion, but a result of vandals who pilloried the pipelines to scoop the products.

“Despite repeated warnings, these unscrupulous people have vandalised that particular pipeline 684 times in the last six months alone.

According to the statement, “Each time the pipeline is repaired, they resume their activities, even collaborating with security agents, who are reported to have set up toll gates collecting fees from the vandals.

“A fight broke out as a heist was going on and there was shooting, which is believed to have ignited Friday morning’s explosion, during which three security personnel also lost their lives.”

President Buhari therefore, urged those communities and state governments that host oil pipelines to be more vigilant and rise to combat the challenge posed by pipeline vandalism.

The Enugu depot of the NNPC has been repaired and ready to function, but remains idle today because of the vandals.

The President also appealed to host communities to collaborate with the NNPC to tame oil pipeline vandalism in their areas.

They have pipeline from Ngwa, lifting oil Abia state to so-called SS, and telling Nigerians it's SS oil. Those who live there know this fact, that's why they keep sabotaging it, and government knowing how much that oil is worth, keep spending millions to repair it to keep the oil money flowing. When a pipeline is sabotaged 648 times in 6 months and repaired each time, be rest assured it's of strategic importance to the country.

Just imagine how lifeless government of incompetence that suppose to sympathize with those hungry family that risk their lives because of the bad economy this cow lovers APC administration brings .
If the common resources are well distributed will any man risk his life in this manner?

Its hard to believe people can be idiotic enough to have fire fight near an open oil pipeline. These fools are candidates for darwin award. The secruity personnel involved in this should be jailed a good decade. This whole situation is a toxic mix of corruption, greed and foolishness.

These are evidences of corruption in the self righteous Buhari's govt ,security agencies who should be guarding govt assets collects 1k each for every 25liters stolen.

Without addressing the issue of security agents collaboration such happenings will continue unabated.

Its tragic people can be poor and dumb. After several warning and deaths, people are still willing to risk their lives scooping oil. Dont blame the economy this is natural selection at work.

That means the pipeline has been vandalized a total 114times every month... That also means on average, the pipeline is vandalized a total 3.8times daily.... That means the pipeline is vandalized minimum once every 6hrs 18mins.....

Abeg, I'm just fed up with this guys upstairs in government....

Very foolish criminals, they will open mouth and talk about marginalisation when they prevent supply of petroleum products to the east. This once again leads to excessive use of lorries for transport of petroleum products. Host communities must support government in preventing these criminal groups from marginalising the East. Intelligence is another answer to this menace.
