The LASTMA officers-Gbenga Ajayi-Bembe, Akeem Bisiriyu and Abiodun Kayode were battered by the military men while trying to tow a broken down trailer obstructing traffic at Mile 2.

They were immediately rushed to the Gbagada General Hospital for treatment where they were revived after remaining in a state of unconsciousness for sometime.

P.M. NEWS gathered that trouble started when the Head, Zone 5, LASTMA had asked Kayode, the LASTMA towing vehicle driver to go and tow a trailer, which broke down at Mile 2 ‘Oke.’

The owner of the trailer was said to have called in the soldiers and naval officers who came and gave Kayode the beating of his life.

The soldiers successfully removed the trailer that had already been carried by the towing van and drove off while Kayode contacted his boss to come to his rescue, and then chased after the fleeing trailer being driven by the soldiers.

Getting to First Gate, Mile 2, Kayode used his towing vehicle to block the trailer while the soldiers came down and descended on him and beat him mercilessly until he collapsed into a state of unconsciousness, while two other officers came to rescue him.

The other two officers-Ajayi-Bembe and Bisiriyu who came to rescue their colleagues were also thoroughly beaten until they also became unconscious while the soldiers and the naval officers took the trailer away.

Speaking with P.M. NEWS, Kayode narrated the story, saying that “my boss told me to go and tow a trailer which broke down at Mile 2 Oke. I had already jacked the trailer into the towing van when the owner went to call two soldiers and they beat me up and removed the trailer from the van.

“I called my boss to come to my rescue and I pursued the trailer to first gate and blocked it. More soldiers and naval officers came and they beat me until I fainted.

“They beat my two other colleagues into unconsciousness and they smashed the windscreen of the towing van. I was soaked in blood before I passed out. The area boys in the area also started throwing stones at us.”

The three LASTMA officers also sustained severe injuries.

As at the time of filing this report, Bisiriyu was still seriously in bad condition in the hospital as he could not talk.

i have had lastma palava and i never resulted in calling military men to brutalise them. the article says the says the truck was broken down. what else was the traffic officials supposed to do? leave it there to cause worse traffic congestion? the lastma guys may have been wrong, but the truck drivers were worse.

I'm in no way in support of Military brutality. But there is often cause for it. What did you expect the soldiers to do? Negotiate or beg them? I dey bow for you oh. I've had my experience with these LASTMA officials before and it was ugly. Very ugly. They regard no man, even when a few exceptions should be made. You don't Bleep with the military, not in Nigeria or any other country. The authority given to the officials have been abused over time and no one has said anything about it till now. Why?

They (LASTMA) were up to something else -I suppose ,  I don't think the vehicle broke down in the first place; how come the soldiers were able to drive a truck allege to have been broken down?

Oh!, so you know as well that soldiers can shoot at any 'threat/enemy' which the  LASTMA was while chasing them with his towing van. He got the impetuous to block the soldiers too, maybe he wasn't in his right senses.

Who knows, the owner of the truck might be a top millitary officer, aside that, the mere fact that a sodier appears in respect of the truck - he (LASTMA guy) should have 'hands off' or better still 'pardon' the truck driver.

The point is, LASTMA officials see themselves as nigeria's FBI, therefore soldiers are a nobody.
They got NO HONOUR/RESPECT for the paramilitary, let alone soldiers.

I must first if all say,I dnt like lastma officials,they are the proudest of the lot and are not open to correction.having said that,the inhuman treatment meted out on those lastma guys by d military men is appaling,you guys need to see their pictures.I was reading in punch newspaper yesterday that the one that went into coma among them,by the time he regained consciousness,he's condition is now bordering on insanity,muttering inchoherent words according to his mum,he was said to have bin asking for a fone so as to call the gov,to make matters worse he can't recognise his own son.aldo a brain scan has been carried out on him.just last week at ikeja under bridge a soldier slammed the head of an okada guy on the pavement under the bridge,I mean these people are just power drunk.smh
