Why cant the useless country each state generate their own power and self sufficiently develop in real time.. what kind of cave called a country is Nigeria

Allow regions or states manage their power... how can the Niger delta be producing gas and we suffer from black outs because of our central mind set...

The only constant thing in Nigeria for now is CHANGE.
How can we be going back and forth on power issue, despite the huge investment in the sector, yet no probe or sanction.
And the current volume been generated is expected to serve 200 million people.

Power generation drops to 2,390MW, 15 plants idle

Power generation in the country plunged to 2 , 390 . 20 megawatts on Monday as the number of idle power plants rose from seven to 15, according to the latest data from the Federal Ministry of Power , Works and Housing .
Total electricity generation has been hovering below 4 , 000 MW in recent months and stood at 3 , 741 . 30MW as of 6 am on Sunday .

The nation generates most of its electricity from gas -fired power plants, while output from hydropower plants makes up about 30 per cent of the total .

But the three hydropower plants accounted for more than 50 per cent of the electricity generated as of 6 am on Monday, with Kainji , Jebba and Shiroro producing 366 MW , 354 MW and 494 MW , respectively .
Egbin , the biggest power station in the country , saw its output drop to 176 MW on Monday from 306 MW on Saturday .

The idle plants are Sapele , Afam IV & V, Geregu , Omotosho , Geregu NIPP , Alaoji , Omotosho NIPP , Odukpani NIPP , Ihovbor NIPP , Gbarain NIPP , Okpai , Afam VI , AES , ASCO and Rivers IPP .

The PUNCH had reported on Monday that electricity generation companies in the country were saying that their plants were being forced to operate below their optimal capacity levels .

The Executive Secretary , Association of Power Generation Companies, the umbrella body for the Gencos , Dr Joy Ogaji , in an emailed response to questions from our correspondent , attributed the problem to transmission and distribution .

She said, “Specifically , generation companies are pinned down by some operational impediments . The frequency of instructions to either increase load or decrease load ( ramp up and ramp down) and , in some cases, shut down, has induced damaging stresses to the components of the machines .

“These instructions, reflective of the grid behaviour , are subjecting key electrical components of the power plants to operational stresses. Our available generation has always been steady between 7 , 500 MW and 8 , 000 MW ; you can check the records at the National Control Centre , Osogbo . ”

My opinion is that we should do away with the national grid system and allow each state to generate and distribute its own power. This will bring competition among the states and there will be power everywhere. When that is achieved we can talk about integration to make it cheaper.

Its laughable how we think that something that has not worked since independence will start working now.

The solution to our many problems is restructuring. Its only a fool that will keep doing the same thing over & over again & expect a different result.

For Nigeria to have constant power all we need do is to decentralise power. Let the regions produce, generate, and distribute power to states in that region only. What ever short comings we have in those regions, they will manage it and build up for the long run.

But with this, am sorry to say there is no hope in sight for the power sector.

No aspect of this country is working optimally, the privatization that works in other countries don't seem to work here. I know as Nigerians it's easy for us to blame, either we blame the leaders or we blame spirits. We as the masses need to do our own part, stop vandalizing the transmission equipment and the gas pipelines leading to the gas stations. The situation would be better if we don't do all these.

Too bad. but it's like most people now report only negative news in this government. When this power generation reached a peak of 7000mgw, many people ignored to report it. it took the government themselves to report it. but When It's this bad, our dear journalists and bloggers becomes busy competing for space on who will report first. That's the highest level of unpartriotism and hypocrisy.

How can d govt always claim to have improved power when majority of Nigerians barely see it, or U think it's d paid Nairaland ZonBs who create threads every now and den to flood it with lies? what a fuvck up country

The government is extremely incompetent since independence, can't solve a simple power supply & transmission problem for almost 60 years.

The unpatriotic importers who just find joy in sabotaging the countrys facilities so that we can buy thier imported chinco generators.

The best way to fix Nigeria is to kill all of those shitty people, that will strike fear into their hearts

A Nation in distress..

Kainji Dam constructed in the 60's to have about 1000MW capacity is today producing 366MW.. The dam has never hit it's full potential since its construction instead has been reducing as turbines breakdown and maintenance slows.

Thank God for Generator.. Now na to beg NUPENG and NLC not to strike.
