The federal government the state government headed by the state governors are wicked.

You receive good salaries and allowances for being a public office holder and would not serve your country for up to 35 years like an average Nigerian worker yet your allowances alone can feed a generation.
Nigerian governors are clueless instead of them to develop their IGR they wait for federal allocation and security vote to use to pay salaries and squander money.
Labour should go on strike these public office holders should reduce their salaries and allowances so that more money can be used to pay workers

Maybe it's true government can't afford the minimum wage, but like they say, if it's not important to them there will always be an excuse for it, but if it's important to them they will find all means necessary to make it happen.

Accepting to pay the new minimum wage will mean government will have to work harder, here lies the problem, no one came to work hard, they came to feed fat.

As I speak to you nkpolu junction along east west road is blocked

it's blocked because the indigenes sold land that water used to pass through naturally diverting the water to a federal road which has led to the destruction of that road.

Port Harcourt people that always refuse to re bag their waste, the whole place is dirty and an eyesore.

The workers unions accuse the government of going back on a N30,000 decision reached at a tripartite meeting between labour, government, and private employers.

However, the federal government says no agreement was reached at the tripartite meeting and insists on a N24,000 minimum wage, while the state governors say they would only be able to pay N22,500.

Cc Richiepolymer, Ndachee

I though you guys said the federal government was ready to pay N30,000 .

A little Matths: as at 2015, the minimum wage was 18k, & dollar exchange was average N180. That means Nigerians were receiving $100 as minimum wage. Fast forward to 2018, de minimum wage is still 18k, & de exchange rate is N360 average. That means, Nigerians are receiving $50 as minimum wage. Going by de calculation, de minimum wage should be N36k+ periodic variation of at least 20%. That is de total minimum wage should be N43200. Our govt is a fraud!
Decent analysis, but you missed out balancing these figures out with the price of oil at these two period and how difficult it has been for a lot of State Governments to pay the current minimum wage, with the Federal Governmental even needing to bail some states out for this reason.

That being said, if the masses are going to suffer, let's all suffer. The allowance of our Federal Legislators at least needs serious review; the current way things are is unfair.
Re: Minimum Wage: Why We Can’t Meet Labours’ Demands – Nigerian Govt by backnbeta(f): 7:47am On Nov 05, 2018
If they cut down government officials' spending and salaries by 50%, workers will not demand for 30,000 minimum wage. The $500,000 bubu gave Guinea Busau will go a long way in our present situation as a nation!

just watch what will happen next year, govt will increase salaries of legislators, just that this time it will be secret, if these thieves have the decency to slash their pay by 50% and invest their loot in the local economy and live modestly nobody will be clamouring for wage increase.

if our so called pastors and religious leaders reprimand them for their bad ways on Sundays ,this issue would be averted.

but alas, everyone has chosen to let them be, so we shouldn't complain.

If only few known celebrities/famous people like tuface, dbanj, RMD n co will match with the labour unions. It might cause the masses to arise on a nationwide protest.
But This is Nigeria.

Everybody is pointing fingers at the FG..........
Our thinking as a nation and populace still baffles me......
This same NLC will come out to castigate the FG but cannot do same to states via their respective chapters.
What has NLC done to governors of those states who have not even paid the #18k minimum wage and even keeping up to the payments of workers salaries?
Instead of them to start the fight from the states, they prefer to move to the center and I wonder to whose benefits on the long run?
What's the population of FG civil servants compared to that of the entire states of the federation and if one is to add local government councils?
All these back ward ways of thinking will not take us in the right direction.

A government that can not pay minimum wage wants to increase school fees for federal universities?

They don't think that increase in school fees would affect interest rate as well undecided

For those criticizing me, how much do you pay your maids, cooks and domestic workers. Thats if you have one.

Dont mind them. Even my friend owing his staff 3month salary is also talking. Nonsense

But senators and rep members fit earn more than 20 million naira as salary every month, foolish people.

Oga. Do your basic math and wax it with facts not blind sentiments so you can be a viable citizen. There are 1.5 million federal civil servants and there are 450 federal representatives. At 18,000 minimum wage the monthly wage bill if all civil servants earned this is about 27 billion. If this was paid to the reps that will amount to 60 million per rep as basic salary monthly which is completely out the ball park. Mind you I am refering to minimum wage and basic pay.

When you add all the benefits civil servants earn and the mean wage of the entire civil service which may be around 30,000 to 40,000 then factor it by 66 percent being asked for the annual basic wage bill of the federal civil service may rise to nearly 1 trillion naira.

Is that not a worrying level of allocation. What is the benefit in all these to yhe average Nigeria please. I mean the 95 percentile.

That's not it, most private workers in Nigeria are paid below minimum wage.
Go to Lagos, we have N10k jobs all over the place, that's less than the current minimum wage.
How ever I don't think it's the 30k that's the issue here, I think it's about the top government officials, 30k is almost a 100% increase from the present minimum wage, that means level 15 officers that were receiving something like 200k a month will be going home with close to 400k. I think this is where the issue lies.
Not the 30k.

Exactly @ bolded

How much do you pay your domestic help, sales girls, drivers?

Most people criticizing the negotiations are fond of owing labourers they engage for menial jobs.
