ASUU STARTS INDEFINITE NATIONWIDE STRIKE TODAY

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has directed all its members to commence a nationwide strike today, Tuesday, November 5, 2018.

According to the National President of ASUU Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi, the union took the decision due to the poor funding of universities in the country.

NUC APPROVES MORE POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES FOR BELLS UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
Following the rigorous resource assessment by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) panel in December, The commission has finally approved more Postgraduate programmes for Bells University of Technology, in Ota Ogun State.

This was disclosed by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran in Otta on Monday.

According to him, the approval for the commencement of Postgraduates academic programmes and Master degrees in the full-time mode were granted for six programmes having only one course with interim accreditation.

NYSC ISSUES WARNING TO CORPS MEMBERS AHEAD OF 2019 ELECTION

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure has admonished corps members that would take part in the 2019 general elections to display a high sense of integrity.

The Director-General who was represented by the Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Victoria Okakwu gave this charge while addressing 2018 Batch “C” Stream 1 Corps members at the Oyo State NYSC Orientation Camp in Iseyin on Sunday.

According to the statement issued by the Assistant Director, Public Relations, NYSC Oyo State, Christy Olatoye, quoted the DG as reminding the corps members that the NYSC is a non-partisan organisation.

UNILORIN OPTS OUT OF ASUU NATIONWIDE STRIKE

Following the declaration of a nationwide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), ASUU chapter has refused to take part in the ongoing indefinite industrial action embarked upon by the union.

This was disclosed by the UNILORIN branch Chairman of ASUU, Uthman Abdulraheem.

According to him, the institution did not join the strike as they were not officially communicated to by the Union.

FG COMMITTED TO PROMOTING INTRA-AFRICAN TRADE FOR DEVELOPMENT – OSINBAJO AT AFRICAN TRADE FORUM

The Federal Government is currently pursuing a rigorous domestic and wide consultative process with all stakeholders in the public and private sector on the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo noted that this is because it recognizes the benefits of promoting intra-African trade for development, job creation, poverty reduction and modernization.
