2,000 PVCs seized from expatriates in Lagos

There are fears in Lagos yesterday over high volume of foreigners holding Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC).
This is just as INEC disclosed that 1.5m PVCs had not been collected.

Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, at a stakeholders’ meeting, said the total number of registered voters, including 700,000 newly registered voters, stood at 6,609,115.

However, it emerged that among the registered voters were nationals of Cameron, Chad, Niger, among other neighbouring countries.

Thousands of them were identified by the state command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) during different raids.
The Deputy Comptroller of Immigration in the command, Owoeye Rufus, said 2,000 PVCs had been seized from expatriates.
Rufus said some of those apprehended claimed they were from Sokoto and Maiduguri, but that through their training, immigration officers were able to detect their actual nationalities.

Rufus explained that because most of them bore similarities with Nigerians, the electoral officers might not be able to identify them.
He noted that there was an influx of Togolese and Beninese in Yaba area, adding that the local government authorities in should help INEC fish out the expatriates collecting PVC.

“We told some of them in Yaba that we are not sending them away, but they are collecting PVC, which is wrong, as they are not eligible to vote. We are ready to seize as many as possible,” he assured.
The REC said the INEC would partner with all stakeholders to stop the trend.
Taking into consideration the new registrants, the REC said the commission would create additional voting points ahead of the 2019 elections.

He said the state currently had 8,462 polling units; 3,667 voting points; 245 wards and 62 political parties which would participate in the elections.

Given the huge number of uncollected PVCs, he assured that the commission would extend PVC collection at ward level while registered voters could still continue to collect the card, saying, “Collection of PVC will continue until shortly before the elections.”

In every election there is a small percentage for error. This errors won't affect the general outcome of the election when the margin is wide like a landslide victory. But in a tightly contested election with narrow margin then it will affect. But I think Atiku will win with a landslide because all those under aged voters were expecting a Northern candidate vs Southern candidate. They are now left with a choice of A Fulani man BUHARI who has been tested for 4yrs and failed woefully going against another Generous Fulani ATIKU man who hasn't been given the chance to lead despite stepping down for MKO in 1993 and stepping down for OBJ in 2003 and contesting every 4yrs after then.
OUR NEXT PRESIDENT IS ATIKU

Wonders. The events in remote northern parts of the country where locals allow multiple registration in certain party/candidate stronghold has only emboldened election machineries across the nation to follow suite.

So all the noise about getting PVC is just a waste of time? They already have their own PVC.

Re: 2,000 Pvcs Seized From Expatriates In Lagos by omokiri5(m): 8:19am On Nov 08, 2018
This happens everywhere, especially in the rural areas. INEC officials collude with politicians from different political parties to hand over PVCs that were not collected from certain polling units for money. On election day, such politicians use it to vote for a party after having their way with the INEC ad-hoc staffs. Though the usage of card reader has helped to reduce this practice a little bit. Both the APC and the PDP politicians are guilty of this.
Meanwhile Nairalanders, pls I'm a graduate that needs help to get a keke maruwa to ride. Kindly check details on my signature. Thank you

If you go to Northern Nigeria, a lot of Nigeriens and Chadians have our voters card and even ID cards showing that they are Nigerians.

Now, politicians have started coaching underaged up north on voting.
