This is not cultural. Perhaps this has been experience in his own family. All Igbos I know have emerged worse off following the funeral of a relative, there's no profit to be made. 9 Likes |

This thesis is even annoying to read. Lies from devil's hell all over. Op, say that is what happens in funeral in your family. Not anambra, not igboland. 6 Likes |

Magalan:it is so so unfortunate. I thought it was an article written by a professor of Igbo Culture. Not knowing it was one riff raff that doesnt have money to bury his mum. See the whole nonsense. Money is borrowed, properties are sold, proceeds of the funeral are sold and profit is made and shared with ratio eldest brother getting double the portion etc Nonsense. Absolute rubbish. 4 Likes |

I'm Igbo from Imo state, I stand bold to say that this is quite strange and not applicable to my state. Funeral is funeral, and not done for gain. Everybody that attends a funeral eats and drinks, irrespective of whether u bring anything or not It's quite unreasonable and foolish to attribute this to d entire Igbo land . I once more wish to reinstate, that we don't share nothing as most people just come with drinks, hence there's nothing to share thereafter. 3 Likes |

computergeek: Please there is something called a befitting funeral for your aged loved ones and we yorubas do NOT joke with it. So if you can afford to throw a party of 10m you will now spend 500k because living. If you say people should cut their coat, that applies to EVERYTHING in this life. 2 Likes |
