There is a simple solution I have always preferred for this crisis with minimum wage.

The RMAFC should be empowered to structure pay for all public servants up to the president as a function of the National Minimum Wage i.e. say minimum wage is "X" then all public servants salaries will be scaled as multiples of X such that maybe Congressman's salary is AX, senator BX, VP is CX and the president is DX where A, B, C etc are positive integers. This should also be the basis for all allowances and any other payments due to the office.

In this way, no public servants emoluments can be increased without recourse to minimum wage.

Not that this matters though as the public office holders will typically help themselves with corrupt practices.

If Governors can not pay salaries then we should get rid of state governors and government

This is an admission of failure

We truly need free and fair election in Nigeria so that politicians can be held accountable

How can a politician say openly that flying jets is compulsory?

The Governor can fly economy and go to Abuja only if necessary

Our politicians really need to get serious

To be frank, I agree to the downsizing of the labour force. NLC and TUC are just been inconsiderate in this matter. N30k is too much for some states to pay.

The governors should sack workers and keep what they can afford to pay. Shikena
But they can afford 500 aides, 100 car long convoy, choice hotels, overseas trips and medical tourism as well as security votes

Obasanjo had oil prices at average of $65, at the time of militancy when crude production was below 1.5m bbl per day
Buhari now has oil prices average of $71, with peace in the Niger Delta, oil production is above 2m.

What we need is to downsize government and funds will be available

From our calculation, it is only Lagos State that will be able to pay N30,000. As Nigerians, this is our country, there is no other country we have and we should be fair to this country

These guys are clowns. It's now they remember we are all Nigerians

My understanding is that is what the constitution provides. The politicians have refused to adhere to it.

That’s how it is in sane societies but in Nigeria where states and local governments are still under the colonization of some power blocs where there agents and officers are ruling the colonies we call state and local government.
That is why at the end of the day the masses are slaves in their own country with no voice, there’s no accountability or fear of any repercussion for impunity. It’s all a game as regardless of the party they are, there are some basic common grounds they agree on regardless of party affiliations.

Only the citizens suffer in this setup.

It is a harsh truth...but the fact is our civil service is overbloated.

Add the fact that revenues from oil are not enough...

Lagos that can pay has hefty IGR....and is the Business capital, that is why they can pay.

Inasmuch as governors are corrupt, and millions get wasted....the only way to pay minnimum wage is by downsizing the workforce.

Thunder fire u guys..

Buhari's feeding allowance a year is almost 1 billion naira..

That alone can pay salaries of many workers for two years.

Why can't Buhari feed with 20 million a year?

Why can't govt feed with 10 million a year?

Why cant these guys reduce thier salaries and stupid allowances..?

So they dont know that if these workers collapse, the country will collapse instantly..

Greedy fools. Left for me, we should burn these guys and kill them.. To them luxury is a necessity for them but hardship is designed for the Nigeria worker.. Thunder fire u guys

Dey are just gathering excuses not to do it right.

If ds useless pple are forced to agree with 30k minimum wages

* Some states like Lagos, Rivers, Anambra, Kano....might be paying but will not recruit again for some years to come

* Some states like Ogun, Enugu, Kaduna,oyo.....might be paying main salary, refuses to pay allowances and deductions and not recruit again

While

** some states like Osun, Benue, Kogi will be paying 1 out of every 6 months

We av problems at every sectors and levels but seems minimum wages payment is more to states level dan federal government

But why not reduces funding for legislative salary, and presidency to fund more workers dat are d one working for it in d first place

What's the budget of the executives and legislature?

Whats the monthly wage bill of civil servants

Bunch of useless people! It must be #30,000 naira or nothing less! Down sizing the work force should never be contemplated. Try that and there will be no hiding place for political office holders and politicians. Instead of downsizing the work force, salaries of political office holders and politicians must be reviewed downward.

Among the 36 states of the federation, only about 3 or 4 that minimum wage 30k may be difficult to pay. Others are just keeping quiet, riding on the back of those who cannot truly pay

It is not a must to be a Governor...Any dull Governor that cant pay should resign and allow capable head govern such state

Yes, we need government who can think out of the box if you can't pay then resign.

Secondly, they don't need to downsize labour all you have to do is downsize your "allowances", the number of political positions.

Our politicians are one of the highest paid while the masses one the lowest paid. Don't be greedy, politicians.

Since flying private jet is compulsory, minimum wage of 30k is also compulsory.

Shame to all the oil producing states that are now claiming they are unable to pay the minimum wage despite the huge allocations.

2019 may be plagued by many strikes.

Rivers can pay that as well......if these governors shoul reduce their lootings to a minimal level, then work out strategies on how to pay it, they will be able to do it.

Who is this again?

Do you live in Nigeria sha?

Who employ the workforce? Is it labour union.

A Government that does not undergo strategic planning is doomed. Lagos state has chart a path to progress and development through articulation of strategic imperatives (master plan).
