You cant sell state own oil company or float Naira it can not work in Nigeria
Just take PHCN and so on as a good example where you have pay more for non existence services
You cant give capitalist free hand in this country its very corrupt
so should we leave nnpc like that.....state owned business is not always good.

Making NNPC a publicly traded company is the BEST THING that can ever happen to Nigeria

If not for any thing, they will be forced to publish their audited financial statements to the workd, which in turn will enhance productivity, transparency and good corporate governance

But then, Nigeria is a country filled with illiterates and dimwits, hence not ready for anything good.

The person you quoted is very right, most of those companies on that list now function efficiently. Whilst they were still in the hands of the government, they were huge liabilities, of which every now and then, the government had to pump billions into them either to keep them afloat, or to pay off staff entitlements when the enterprises eventually and inevitably give up the ghost.

Did you just ask what impact a number of functional companies have on the common man?.... Are you for real?... The companies are now functioning, making profits, employing thousands of Nigerians, paying taxes to the government and generally contributing to the overall productivity index of Nigeria; as opposed to being dead beat liabilities to government. How else do you want the companies to positively impact on the common man?

Can you point out a single enterprise managed or operated by the NIgerian government which works?... The Nigerian government should never be allowed to operate anything.
just imagine if the NLNG was operated and run by the FG..

Good, when privatization a government assets, it's main aim is to enhanced productivity and those are some of the parameters for measurement of productivity.
All the things you stated above AP cum forte oil are in those indices I States above.
Profitability, employability, acceptability/accessibility,...

No. The moment you sell off Govt assets 100 percent, what happens afterwards is for the new owners to measure, not Government. Th main focus of Govt is to take Govt budgets hitherto drained by those companies channeled now into public infrastructure. You only analyse all these If Govt still has shares in it. NLNG Limited is an example.

What have we gained from NNPC over the years? All they know is how to export oil.

Ordinary refinery, they can't construct. And only Dangote is achieving that it.

You see why you need to agree with Atiku's point of view right? Not everything is politics. Atiku took a very big risk making that comment. Too many lay men in the country.

Can't believe there are still Nigerians that believe the government has any business managing companies like NNPC. Can anybody name one company the Nigerian government manages efficiently and profitably? Everything the Nigerian government touches is a cesspool of corruption, massive looting, diversion, misappropriation and fraud, tribalism and nepotism and staggering incompetence. Every single thing that the Nigerian government runs is utterly rotten. NNPC has not made a single year of profit in its entire existence. It's an avenue for waste and misguided ventures such as the farce of wasting billions of dollars prospecting for oil in the North.

NNPC should be run the same way NLNG is run. The government might own a huge stake in it, but it should be run entirely by the private sector if you ever hope to see professionalism and efficiency in the sector, instead of just being a government institution where Alhajis pack all their kids. This is not a question of PDP vs APC. NNPC should have been privatized a long time ago.

NNPC is owned by FG as we all know.NNPC is a cesspool of corruption and waste, for instance,Kaduna refinery was left idle for 7months couple with the reports of non-remittances and stolen funds in this sector.Although there are issues between FG and those companies issued licences to operate in power sector owing to some infractions in MOU and some faulty processes in sales.Electricity consumers are paying more than they consume because many have no easy access to pre-paid meters however our attitudes towards public corporations are giving room for waste and corruption in the system.Obasanjo sold NITEL and today there is a lot of improvement in telecommunication sector with job opportunities.I still believe power sector will get better if terms and conditions of agreement are abided by,if restructuring is given a chance by allowing states to generate, transmit and distribute power and concrete legal framework is put in place.

Nothing can possibly go back beyond your outdated and fallacious thinking.

Nigerians have to settle on what kind of system you want. If you want a capitalist state, a welfare/socialist state or centrally planned economy like China.
I can tell you that human progress thus far is attributable to the word ‘capital’ as most human innovation has come from it. It is the basis of the west’s wealth. Government has no business in business, and when it does, they are run inefficiently. NNPC is a cesspool for rent seeking and inefficiency. Going private and running it like a business is the way to go in terms of efficiency and delivery.

I can tell you that the problems we have in Africa today are as a result of the statist political economy adopted post colonialism. The private sector ought to be the driver of any modern economy not the public sector. Such simplistic thinking you exhibited is why we are still a poor society. What has Govt owning NNPC done for Nigerian development?

If you did a proper research on these companies you would find out they are way better than they used to be in private hands and those that could not stand shows they were only financial burden to the govt.

We disagree with shehu, NNPC should be unbundled and listed in the NSE in sectors with FG having 50% shares on its decision making policies..

It is just a cashcow to every serving govt..
Dont Mind Them. Most Of The Reactions Here Are Childish And Petty.Thinking With Their A$shole Instead Of The Brain.Even If Buhari Decide To Sell The NNPC As Suggested By Atiku I Will Support Him.The Corruption In The NNPC Is Savage And Mind Blowing. Therefore, selling To Investors Will Be The Smartest Move.
