FMC Abeokuta denies nonavailability Oxygen cylinders

The Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, has denied news making the round that the centre is currently experiencing shortage of Oxygen cylinders.

The denial is in response to a false report that a patient identified as Emmanuel Okoli allegedly died due to the unavailability of oxygen cylinders at the centre.

Investigation by MEDALINKS REPORTERS revealed that the death of the patient was not attributed to lack of oxygen.

MEDALINKS REPORTERS gathered that the deceased was a son of a member of staff who was admitted three weeks ago on account of high grade fever, cough and chest pain.

MEDALINKS REPORTERS further learnt that when conventional antibiotics and antimalarials could not control the fever,
comprehensive investigations including X-rays, blood, bone marrow and, pleural fluid studies were done.

It was also revealed that the deceased relations insisted on taking him away despite pleas from several members of staff to let the hospital treat him, as they insisted it is spiritual.

Meanwhile, the diagnosis was elusive for one week and when the results arrived, a definitive diagnosis was made (Aspergillosis) as the cause of the ailment, but, he was no longer in the hospital.

However, MEDALINKS REPORTERS investigation also revealed that the patient was brought back two weeks later to the Centre with altered consciousness and irrational behavior in addition to the initial symptoms.

MEDALINKS REPORTERS checked the record of the hospital in the last three months and learnt that the Medical Centre has never had issues with oxygen availability and the death of Okoli was not due to lack of it but negligence on the part of his relations.

When MEDALINKS REPORTERS visited the hospital, it was observed that the Centre has been equipped with new facilities since the emergence of Prof. Musa-Olomu as the Medical Director of the hospital.

The hospital has acquired several modern equipment since his administration began.

MEDALINKS REPORTERS investigation also revealed that the Medical Centre has capable Medical and health Personnel that are God-fearing.
