With less than 100 to the 2019 General Elections in Nigeria, Eligible registered Voters can now check their Voter’s Status on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) e-Voter Status platform.

Before you go to any polling unit to cast your vote, it is highly recommended that you make use of INEC e-Voter Status Platform to check your voter status. This is very important because you won’t be allowed to vote in any election in Nigeria without a valid Voter’s card.

This e-Voter Platform can also be used to check your Voters Identification Number (VIN), if you have lost either your temporary or permanent voters card.

WHAT IS VOTERS IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN)?

Voters Identification Number, popularly know as VIN is a 19 digit unique identification number used to identify each individual voter registered on INEC database. This unique number is located on the top of the the voter’s card.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR VOTER’S STATUS ON INEC E-VOTER STATUS PLATFORM

Checking of voter status on INEC e-Voter Status Platform is easy and can be done in 3 ways.

With VIN.
Date of Birth.
Through Mobile SMS.

HOW TO CHECK VOTER STATUS WITH VIN

Simply open either your mobile or PC browser app and visit the e-Voter platform with this link http://www.inecnigeria.org/?page_id=2160

Click on check status using VIN.

From the drop down option, select your state of Registration.

Enter your Last Name (Surname/Family Name.)

Input your VIN Number. You can enter either the full VIN number or the last 5 digits of your VIN number.

Tick the box “I’m not a robot“

Click on check Status.

Voter information found! Will be displayed including your VIN, Polling Unit and Date of Birth if the information you entered is valid or if they are in INEC database

HOW TO CHECK YOUR VOTER STATUS WITH YOUR DATE OF BIRTH

Those of us who have lost our Voter’s card or don’t have access to your VIN can still check our Voter status using the Date of Birth option. To do that;

Access the INEC e-Voter Status Platform with either your Mobile or PC browser.

Pick your State of Registration from the drop down.

Type in your Last Name (Surname/Family Name)

followed by your First Name (Your Name)

Enter your Date of Birth starting with day, then month, followed by the year.

Tick the box “I’m not a robot“

Click on check Status.

Voter information found! Will be displayed along with your details including your VIN, Polling Unit and Date of Birth if the information you entered are valid or are in INEC database.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR VOTER STATUS THROUGH SMS

To check your Voter Status through SMS, just send an SMS with your State of Registration, your Last Name (Surname/Family Name), VIN (last 5 digits) using this Format “Edo, Alfred200825, 12345” to 08171646879.

You should receive a response within 15 minutes confirming your Status. Please note that this SMS service is not free. Text message will be charge at local rate.
