Saff:
To me blac chyna is not the problem. She has the mindset of a business woman, she is making profit from the consumer. The problem starts with you and I, and all the other black/dark women in the world. You complain about discrimination against your skin colour, you complain about bleaching creams, yet day after day you alter your appearance to conform to the westernised standard of beauty. What is the difference? What is the difference between bleaching your skin, and wearing Brazilian silky weave-on, contouring your nose to look pointy, wearing make up to look 5 shades lighter than your complexion? You are still trying to look more European, bleaching is more extreme whilst the others are more temporary, however it’s still the same motive behind it. Most black/dark women are ashamed of embracing the natural features that God gave to them, yet in the same breath will still complain about discrimination against them? Once black women begin to accept themselves, and fight against oppression, the better. We need to stop focusing on the wrong things, and take control over our self esteem, because it’s very low, and blac chyna is only profiting from it.
this sentiment works around the world.

White women are getting lip injections and fillers to have fuller lips, they are getting tans to look darker and more 'exotic', they are getting butt lifts and ass jobs to have curvier behinds so that their bodies can fit the look of black women.... They are doing box braids and such and copying 'black culture'

Go to Asia and you have a similar situation. Asia actually has the biggest market for bleaching cream, contrary to what some are propagating. Even in Korea, they still bleach to look whiter. 90% of the Korean population do nose jobs to make their noses thinner. I am talking both men and women, not just the women.

So, when you say black women are doing things, know that it is not restricted to the black race.... But since the black race is basically at the bottom of the totem pole as far as races go, theirs is most noticed.

The make-up point is moot because every race uses make-up and it makes everybody's face brighter.

Self love is personal. Every race has elements that do all these and more because the standards of beauty vary from society to society. In some parts of the world, skinny is the trend, in other parts, curvy or thick is the trend. There was a time when natural hair was bad, but do you see how many people have embraced the natural hair gang in the last two years? Do you know how many people have done away with relaxers?

If not for hair texture, weather and other factors, some people would never have to fix, but the fixing and attachments are called protective hairstyles for a reason.

Darling You’re missing the point. White women are not getting lip injections and fillers to be accepted or because their natural lips or skin colour are discriminated. Theyre not oppressed, They’re doing it because its the trend and it’s fashionable. Black women bleach their skin and wear weave because they’re oppressed and condemned for the natural features that God gave to them. You see the difference? So by you wearing weaves and bleaching your skin you are allowing the oppressors to oppress you more. We have to fight against it. You can’t cannot compare the two. Stop victimising yourself and crying wolf later. Do what is right, and you’ll see results. Most of you like to use this ‘protective styling’ as a cover up for your self hate. If you wear Brazilian weave-on 365 days out of the year and barely show your natural hair, what exactly are you protecting? Accept your natural skin tone, stop focusing on this person and that person who is selling bleaching creams, or this person or organisation who discriminates against your skin tone. You’re focused on the wrong thing my dear. If we embrace our natural hair, our natural skin and the beautiful features that God gave to us, we’ll see a huge transformation in society.

But as long as we wear weave 24/7, wear light makeup, bleach our skin, and do everything to conform to westernised standard of beauty, we’ll continue to be oppressed, as it is evident that we don’t even love ourselves enough to take action.

There is no ban on bleaching cream either in USA or in Nigeria.
That said, there might be a regulation on the sale of beauty products in that a particular brand might require NAFDAC approval before it is sold (I doubt that very much, since they're mostly concerned with food and drugs).

So if bleaching cream is sold daily in Nigeria, why all the fuss when somebody else starts to sell it? We can complain about the side effects, but until there is enough outcry/study to warrant its ban, it's perfectly legal to sell.

I agree that there is no ban on bleaching cream in the USA but I don't think strolling into the country without a permit to sell stuff wld fly with the authorities but in my country anything goes.

I feel that business is business.. she is not pointing a gun at people that would buy, so if anybody wants to turn white, no problem. just be ready to bear whatever result you would get from bleaching.. by the way Burna is a legend... I lou u...

Blac chyna isn't the problem tbh. The bigger problem here is that there are people who are willing to buy these creams. And now everyone wants to bash her. The same people who make colorist jokes even here on Nairaland??.

Or even the fact that Nigerian artists prefer light skinned women in their videos but yea Blac Chyna is the problem!! undecided.

Just as Nigerians will say Thunder will fire you. Singer Burna Boy has the same reservations for American celebrity Blac Chyna as she prepares to travel to the country to promote a lighting cream.

Just yesterday, Nigerians have trooped to the social media to call out Blac Chyna over her plans to sell the creams for a whooping N90,000 when she tours the country.

The rather exorbitant price of the cream had aggravated Nigerians and most people wondered why a non-African will come down to the country to degrade the women-folk.

Burna Boy took to his Instagram Stories to warn women not to buy Chyna's products which he termed "poison".

He assured them that their black is beautiful, then went on to slam Chyna saying the thunder that will fire is still wearing Balenciaga sneakers

Stop hating bro. She is hustling, nobody is forcing anyone to buy her crap. Your music is like the bleaching cream to some foreigners, even to some here in Nigeria too.....but you still get invitations to perform abroad. When they launch a campaign against you now, it will be termed racism. Chill bro.

Africa really has no hope when people like Blac chyna are looking to exploit a country like Nigeria and the government doesn't have a functional body to ban her product.

It is an unfortunate situation. But it is a two-way thing.

1. The government doesn't care about her citizens. In saner climes, she won't even have the guts to publicise such a business.
2. Even when government decides to stop her product - probably after much noise has been made - don't be surprised that some of these citizens will criticise the government for intervening because like it or not, some Nigerians will benefit from her business and here, everyone looks out for themselves and their pockets.

Because Burna Boy smokes, when he makes sense, we shouldn't listen?

The patronisers who will live with the negative consequences or die from the effects of the cream & the toxicants it contains may be people close to you at the end of the day, no one knows tomorrow. If you feel no one you know will purchase it now, hope you are aware there will definitely be attempts to remake it and who is to tell if it won't gradually become tempting to people you know?

Instead of saying she isn't forcing anyone to buy it, why not speak against her bringing the cream in the first place? Let us seize every opportunity we have to champion for good things, else posterity will judge us.

i don't wear Brazilian weave at all.... It costs an arm and a leg.

I fix hair at times because I am very small and when I use my natural hair, I look like a child. Like I tell some people, assuming everyone fixes or makes up because of westernized beauty is erroneous.

Everybody uses make-up, black people were using make-up before the coming of white people. Small things like tattoos and piercings were society's beauty standards in Africa back in the day.

I get where you are coming from though. Oppression is a thing of the mind sometines.
