Delta state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as a great patriot, democrat and man of faith for his legendary and remarkable contributions to the growth of democracy in Nigeria. Governor Okowa poured the encomium on the ex-vice president as he turns 72 years on Sunday, November 25.
In a statment on Saturday, November 24, the governor lauded Atiku's strong faith, dexterity, sagacity, courage and penchant for democratic values and ethos as an unrepentant democrat. He commended the former vice president for his tremendous impact on the lives of people irrespective of tribe, religion, geography, gender, social status or political affiliation.

The governor's words: “Your altruistic nature has genuinely led you to provide opportunities for people to utilize their potentials and earn a decent means of livelihood without expecting anything in return. “Your massive investments in education, agriculture, media, hospitality, water, oil and gas, in your home state of Adamawa, and other parts of the country stands you out indisputably as the highest employer of labour besides government. “Over the years, you maintained a large, devoted and loyal followership and bestrode Nigeria’s political scene like a colossus due to your famed generosity and large-heartedness and we are convinced that you will get Nigeria working again. “On behalf of the government and people of Delta state, I write to felicitate with you on the occasion of your 72nd birthday anniversary.

“In the past 72 years, your family and indeed your political and business associates as well as admirers do have cause to be grateful to Almighty God for having granted you a life of great accomplishment and abiding fulfillment.” He wished Atiku Abubakar, a very happy and memorable 72nd birthday celebrations.

Meanwhile, Atiku has awarded scholarships to five children of the victims of a recent attack on 157 Task Force Battalion in Metele, Borno. He made the declaration in a statement personally signed by him on Wednesday, November 21, in Abuja. The former vice president also called on those who desired to celebrate his birthday to donate their gifts and money to the widows and orphans of the fallen military heroes.
