The Senate yesterday passed bills for the establishment of five polytechnics, two universities, two colleges of education and one institute of technology.

The institutions are Federal Polytechnic, Kabo, Kano State; ‎Federal Polytechnic, Daura, Katsina State; Federal Polytechnic, Ikom, Cross River State; Federal Polytechnic, Langtang, Plateau State and Federal Polytechnic, Kwale, Delta State.

Others are Federal University of Education, Aguleri, Anambra State; Federal University of Technology, Manchok, Kaduna State; Federal College of Education, Usugbenu Irrua, Edo State; Federal College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, Abia State and National Institute of Construction Technology and Management, Uromi, Edo State.

The 10 proposed federal institutions are part of the over 80 that the National Assembly is currently working to establish.

Daily Trust had last Friday reported that the bills for the 80 new federal tertiary institutions ‎are at various stages of legislative processes.‎

Our correspondent reports that apart from the 80 bills, one other bill came up for first reading on Tuesday.

Imo state which has the highest number of qualified applicants but no University place is yet to have another federal University,

Even though the junior minister for education is from Imo state.

Re: Senate Passes Bills To Establish 10 Tertiary Institutions. by mandax: 8:53pm On Nov 29, 2018
Gov Okorocha does not want any tertiary education institutions anywhere near his private Eastern Palm University in his LGA, not anywhere in Imo West Senatorial zone of 12 LGAs in which we have no federal tertiary education institution.

So, let Federal government delay any new tertiary education institution for Imo state until Gov Okorocha goes out of office, if not, Okorocha shall instruct that it is located still in the one zone which contains all the three public tertiary institutions in Imo state.

Thing is institutions borne out of politicization are built to fail..

Many of these reps just want to prove to their constituents that they brought universities for 'bringing' sake. These institutions are going to weigh down on Min Of Education's budget, they would weigh down Tetfund's impact.

Leave expansion in higher education to private sector. We already have enough public universities that we can't fund properly.
They are clowns

Unless something revolutionary and radical happens, this country's future is bleak.

Imagine creating more higher institutions when the ones in place are poorly mismanaged and inadequately funded.

Education is expensive and needs adequate funding to make it affordable for the common man but the avaricious cabal is just interested in embezzlement.

When will all this end?

We need a Federal University of Education in Edo State. Not these Federal Colleges of Education.

All the same thank you National Assembly. Hope it's not just on paper.
