Warship: Entitlement mentality of Africans is sickening, big company pay multiple tax already yet you want them to fund education of kids of indiscipline promiscuous men that gives birth to 5 kids on 100k salary with a jobless housewife just to educate the same kids that wants to become yahoos and oloshos?. If you've ever done business in an unfavorable condition like Nigeria you won't propose another tax else job losses is inevitable. 1 Like 1 Share |

Warship: I'm trying to be polite, but you're working my last nerve by continuing to imply that you understand this problem more than "me and ASUU". Dude, you don't. Your solutions and the underlying thinking so far are actually quite reductive. E.g., read the post just above mine... 1 Like 1 Share |

jmaine:Dnt b deceived, call a spade a spade. 90% of Nigerian federal uinversity lecturers are lazy and corrupt. They dnt even have d students interest at heart. They only clamour for their selfish interest even @ d detriment of d students. U better dnt b deceived, d University lectures ar well paid, but their insatiable hunger f wealth makes dem collect sorting (bribe) frm students. Some of them only cm to classes ones in a blue moon. They dnt deserve wat they r asking for, they should go and sit down. 2 Likes |

proffemi: Take Note Every nation with the best universities, are always privately supported. Public finance are not infinite/unlimited and rarely sufficient to take care of every sector of a society. |
Re: ASUU Strike: Nigerian Govt Orders Universities To Implement ‘no Work, No Pay’ by proffemi: 9:59am On Dec 01, 2018 |
Warship: Since you know the part I highlighted above, I believe you also know what students pay in those nations. Are you saying ASUU should stop fighting the FG and let students can pay more? If so, you will suddenly find that we are on the same side. If we want functional public tertiary education, someone must pay. |

proffemi: The universities need more support but take note that the direct involvement of the private sector is the solution and not the government. What ASUU should ask the government is to fuse the private sector with the universities in such a way that the research works from the upgraded labs/workshops will be commercialized to the benefit of the private sector, universities and government. Get the point if you want to solve the problem. Government do not have unlimited resources as you think. |
Re: ASUU Strike: Nigerian Govt Orders Universities To Implement ‘no Work, No Pay’ by ADUBA1(m): 10:07am On Dec 01, 2018 |
Warship: you are the one that do not understand ASUU demand. ASUU is asking that the University should be upgraded to international standard, after which they can now collaborate with industries for research and development. it was agreed that this upgrad will be gradual for a period of 5 years. This is because ASUU understand that FG does not have what the funds to do the upgrade ones. It is after this upgrade that the University can now become fully autonomous, linking up with industries and fg projects and thus generating more funds without the need to increase school fees to get quality education 1 Like 1 Share |

Stop supporting the Fraudulent politicians to destroy Tertiary education in Nigeria just like public primary and secondary schools. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/232976-futa-partners-successfully-launch-satellite-into-space.html |
Re: ASUU Strike: Nigerian Govt Orders Universities To Implement ‘no Work, No Pay’ by Warship: 10:12am On Dec 01, 2018 |
ADUBA1: Let me help you out to see things clearly. How much do FG generate.? How much do each sector of Nigeria requires.? When you have done the calculation, you will realize that, only the private sector can solve this problem if fused with the universities to help upgrade the labs/workshops and then the research works commercialized to generate more money to repay the private sector who then pay taxes to government as well as further support the universities. 1 Like 1 Share |

jmaine: People like you are the reason why the world laugh at the black people. The satellite and rocket launched weren't built by FUTA. Tell FUTA to build a mini rocket and satellite before taking them serious. What they did overseas, was to observe the launching procedure. |

proffemi:I went to a Federal government secondary school, FGCL to be precise. And the standard of education was and is still very good with quality teachers and OK infrastructure. Public secondary education is largely run by the states and that's where the mess is compared to private schools. If govt jacks up the fees and makes it unaffordable to the public just to improve quality, then what differentiates govt from private schools? My problem with ASUU is... Are Universities the only institutions that require funding in Nigeria? Why are you guys always in a hurry to embark on strike actions? Always comparing yourselves with National Assembly members and their salaries. We know they earn crazy wages. But if all institutions including health, transport went on strike for similar reasons, how will you survive? If we fund universities the way ASUU wants it, what happens to health, roads, rails, power, housings, ports, etc.? So Nigerians including the lecturers should die on bad roads? Nigeria is a developing country so ASUU must be reasonable and less arrogant in making funding demands. Let's all focus on good governance and electing less corrupt people into office, as this is the only way to gradually build all sectors of the country. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Warship: You're preaching to the choir. What if I told you that personally I have secured the support of multiple corporate entities on projects targeting students? Now extrapolate and guess what the picture looks like university-wide. It still isn't enough. Until we find a way to completely reboot the system in terms of personnel and facilities, we can't consistently offer the companies anything of value. That's the blunt truth. That rebooting is already underway (previous strike actions have been tremendously beneficial; TETFUND in particular has been a fantastic asset, warts and all) but we're not there yet. Government do not have unlimited resources as you think.I never implied this. Don't confuse me with someone else. |

interesting I leave this quote for you: In a reaction to the memo, the Chairman of University of Ibadan chapter of ASUU, Deji Omole, described the federal government as shameless for owing lecturers seven years of unpaid, earned academic allowances. He said despite the debt, the government still wants lecturers to continue to work while the presidency and the National Assembly ‘feed fat’ on the wealth of the nation. Auladimeji: |

Re: ASUU Strike: Nigerian Govt Orders Universities To Implement ‘no Work, No Pay’ by proffemi: 10:28am On Dec 01, 2018 |
olujastro: Ah, you want answers? Let's break it down so you can figure out the answers yourself. 1. Do you know that there is a strong link between the quality of education (especially science and tech; especially tertiary education) and national development? 2. All sectors are important, but the blunt truth is, a sensible society know they are not equally important. If you have to sort all the sectors you listed above in order of importance to national development, how would you do it? Hint: examples abound globally. 3. Do you think the universities, in their current state, can contribute meaningfully to national development? 4. Do you agree that the universities need to be better funded? Now, the big question; 5. Where should this funding come from. By the time you work through the above exercise, I think you will realize that the only responsible course for ASUU is to fight for improved funding. Whether it is the government they should be fighting or the parents/students though, that is a totally different discussion. 1 Like 1 Share |

Warship: You are a very sad fellow solely here to launder the image of this failed and lifeless administration. The satellite launch was a collaborative effort with FUTA and you dare try to water it down. What infrastructures has the Nigerian government invested in the Universities or in Nigeria in general to facilitate easy launch of rockets/satellites into space? See! Just carry your APC barge with your chest and stop insulting our intelligence with biased sycophantic sound bites. Cheers. 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: ASUU Strike: Nigerian Govt Orders Universities To Implement ‘no Work, No Pay’ by olujastro: 10:46am On Dec 01, 2018 |
proffemi:Your response only reechoed the arrogance typical of ASUU members. You only succeeded in emphasising the importance of university education which is known the world over. To show you the arrogance of ASUU, educational institutions at the primary and secondary levels don't embark on strike actions, unlike ASUU that has equated itself to a demigod body in Nigeria. As if funding will 100% guarantee quality in the same Nigeria where some VCs have been charged for looting of public funds meant for improving university education. You guys simply wanted to cash in on NLC planned strike then and the upcoming elections to arm-twist the govt. I was a victim of your needless strike actions for 5yrs turned almost 6yrs at the University. I stand with government on this. Go back to work or go look for another "perfectly funded sector" to work with. 2 Likes 1 Share |

proffemi: How much is minimum wage.? 18,500 multiples 60 months will give you N1.1m $600 × N350= N210,000 for just a child and do not forget that we have a maximum of 4 child policy which will make it N840,000 for a poor civil servant. What about feeding, clothing etc.? That is the big picture you aren't seeing. |
