[size=14pt]IBB's Rally Flops In Ibadan, Ex-Dictator Fails To Show Up[/size] Author: Date: Jul 29th, 2010. Threat by students to disrupt the proposed rally of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd) has forced the former dictator to suspend his visit to Ibadan, Oyo State, today. •IBB: fails to show up. Babangida’s supporters, who organised the rally said it was cancelled because they cannot guarantee his security as a result of the students’ threat. P.M.NEWS gathered that the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, had earlier issued a statement in Ibadan warning Babangida to steer clear of the South West in his bid to contest the 2011 presidential election. IBB, as Babangida is popularly called, had slated today’s rally in Ibadan to launch his Southwest campaign for his 2011 Presidential bid. Indications that the visit had been cancelled emerged at the Oja Oba palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan when Oba Odulana Odugade and his high chiefs who were waiting to receive IBB in the palace rose and departed for their homes at 12.15p.m. when the organisers of the rally told the monarchs that IBB will no longer be coming. P.M.NEWS gathered that Oba Odulana immediately left for his residence in Monatan area of Ibadan. Investigations also revealed that a handful of IBB’s supporters who went to the local airport in Ibadan to receive him went home disappointed when they were told that IBB had shelved his visit. Those who went to the Ibadan-Lagos toll gate to await the former maximum ruler, thinking that he would come by road, also dispersed on learning of the cancellation of the visit. Attempts by P.M.NEWS to speak with Azeem Gbolarunmi, former deputy governor of Oyo State, and some wives of the late Chief Lamidi Adedibu who are the known big supporters of IBB in Oyo State proved abortive, as they declined to comment. Oba Odulana had earlier warned his subjects not to link him with any of the presidential aspirants because as a traditional ruler, he is supposed to be neutral in any political contest. The monarch, it was learnt, threatened to curse any indigene who links him with any of the contestants. The state governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala gave the first hint that IBB was not welcomed in Ibadan when he declared support for President Goodluck Jonathan to contest next year’s election. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other southwest leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had warned governors in the zone not to support the presidential ambition of IBB. Obasanjo and some elders of the party were said to have held a meeting where they appealed to the governors in the region not to support IBB in 2011. Also, the Oyo State Coordinator of Jonathan and Sambo Consolidation 2011, Chief Alli Balogun, in a statement predicted that IBB’s planned visit to the state will be fruitless. IBB wasn't going to show up anyway; everything went the way it was planned. IBB is still the smartest politician around today in Nigeria. I repeat, everything went exactly the way it was planned, just be patient and allow the time to tell. It is absolutely certain that IBB is our next president. |

I don't think this is good news, Bokoharam can also decide to disrupt Jonathaan's campaing in the North and all of this sets precedence for Anarchy. If NANS don't want IBB they should organise themselves and vote against him at the polls. Its not up to NANS to pick and choose who can campaign and who can't. |

The de-mystification of IBB has begun in earnest, by the time elections are concluded next year, the whole world would have known that IBB has only been living on past glory that got terribly eroded by the June 12 saga. Big B1: Isnt it about time you wake up from this terrible slumber? Believing that Lagos will vote for IBB and also Plateau even as his creation of Jos North Local Government for the Hausa settlers is still causing mayhem in that part of Nigeria must be a damaging wishful thinking. |

It would have made more sense for haters to jubilate if this had taken place in Kano or Sokoto. If IBB could get just 25 percent of the entire Oyo state Votes (which I'm sure that he'll get) I think he will be sitting pretty. He doesn't want more than that, therefore it is ok to say the rally flops. You may not see it or understand it at this time, but IBB has already accomplished his goal in Ibadan. Furthermore, you may not know about this, but apart from the the few noise makers, IBB's suppoters came out heavily to support their man. Traffic from Ibadan to Lagos was unbelievable and the airport road was also blocked. So, my friends just calm down and allow time to tell. IBB is in it to win it. I wonder what would happen in the north when Goodluck does show up to campaign? |

Big B1: I want to believe that some of these figures are cooked up and not real, is the NPC crazy how on earth can states like Jigawa, Borno, Zamfara, Kastina and all those others end up with such high figures, were the cows/goats/sheep and trees in those states also counted along side human beings? As for IBB he is a goner, even if the elections are rigged and he succeeds in becoming the president, he will DIE in no time, pls someone should remind of almighty Abacha incase his shallow brain has forgotten so soon. And for the IDIOTS that are supporting him, they should go on, the little naira notes they are given will not be used for any reasonable venture, it will vanish like a whirlwind. |
