Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has spoken of plans to introduce Igbo Language in its academic programme for the award of the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE).

The Provost, Professor Josephat Okechukwu Ogbuagu, disclosed this when he received the Chairman of a pan-Igbo organisation, the Out Subakwa Igbo, Professor Pita Ejiofor, in his office.

Ogbuagu specifically spoke of the plans by the management to consult relevant authorities on the proposed programme.

The Provost, who lauded Ejiofo for his efforts at ensuring that Igbo Language does not go into extinction, assured the organisation that the academic policies of the college would accommodate the integration of Igbo Language for proper understanding and implementation of the proposal.

He, however, enjoined the Igbos to promote the language with a view to ensuring that the language receive national and international recognition it deserved.

Ejiofor, in his remarks, regretted that the Igbo Language had not been accorded its pride of place by Igbo sons and daughters as well as in the scheme of national development, stressing the need for the South-East governments to come together and fashion out a unified programme that would help in strengthening the language.

In another development, Ogbuagu who described Information Communication Technology (ICT), as a bedrock of technological advancement of any nation, noted that the virtual library would go a long way in assisting the students to expand their scope of knowledge in technology.

The Provost, who disclosed this while inaugurating a multi-million naira Virtual Library at the permanent site of the college, said that the N38 million library project, under the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs), was aimed at helping the college expand its academic horizon.

Thus, Ogbuagu assured the government that the aim for which the project was established would be achieved, just as he praised the firm handling the project for a job well done.

He urged the members of staff and students to avail themselves of the opportunities which will be offered by the virtual library to attain greater heights in their studies and professions.

Ogbuagu sought judicious use of every components of the library, adding that anybody found misusing them will face the wrath of the college.
