[quote author=obailala post=73596655]@Op,

There's nothing wrong with giving to the church of God. Oh yes, God is a spirit and doesnt need your physical money; but what God needs is your faith! God's hand can be moved in your life when he sees you do something difficult (a sacrifice) to gain his attention.

When God asked Abram to sacrifice Issac as a burnt offering, of course God isnt a cannibal so he wasnt going to come down and eat Isaac, he didnt need Isaac for anything. Likewise when God asks for animal sacrifices in the old testament, he doesnt come down to eat the lamb the people sacrifice, God doesnt eat or need your lamb meat. Also, when we fast to support our prayers, of course God doesnt come down and eat the food which we didnt eat, neither does He take pleasure in seeing you go hungry. But in all these things, God is simply moved when we deprive ourselves of something valuable to us in order to gain his attention. Depriving ourselves of something valuable or subjecting ourselves to distress is called 'sacrifice' if we do it to gain God's attention.

This isnt even restricted to God. Even juju spirits that ask for sacrifices in shrines for a native doctor to perform a charm, the juju spirits dont come down to eat the white spotless male chicken you bring. All the juju wants is for you to make an effort at something difficult, to deprive yourself of something valuable. At the end, it's the chief priest and his family that eats the chicken meat, but the juju god has seen your effort in providing such a difficult requirement (sacrifice) and that is the price you have to pay for the juju to grant your wishes.

So in essence, just the same way humans go on hunger strike when protesting and trying to gain attention of govt or whoever, that's the same way Christians fast or deprive themselves of money to gain God's attention. Both cases are called 'sacrifice'; but yeah, there is no doubt that the new generation religious movements have taken the money drive to a ridiculous level which even God can never be pleased with. It even gets worse when most churches now preach that giving to God must entail giving money to a church.[/

People like the OP are the stingy broke and frustrated Nigerians who can never give God one naira, talkless of rendering any tangible help to anyone. Ask him how many times he has ever given a dime to the IDPs scattered all over Nigeria. My wife and I have done at least three IDP visitations and have another one next week. We pay school fees for people, give to orphanages AND we still fulfill our covenant obligations in terms of tithes, offerings and sacrifice.

Every year has been bigger and better and just better. God himself spoke to me in my room about these things way before I even joined Winners. Many people are reaping the benefits of their seeds sown over the years. Why people like the OP think they can think for me, and tell me how I spend MY MONEY (some of which I show below) simply beats my imagination.

Mark 12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury"

JESUS DID NOT TAKE PITY ON THIS POOR WIDOW AND ASK HER TO TAKE BACK HER MONEY BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT WAS THE ONLY CHANNEL TO GET OUT OF HER PREDICAMENT
Really? You mean the only way by which the poor widow could escape her predicament was to donate money? You are a real fool.
How many people did Jesus asked to bring money before receiving their healing and miracles?

If only you know the moral and spiritual lesson Jesus was trying to pass across through this incident, you would not be writing this gibberish.
Did the event happen in a gathering facilitated by Jesus or Jewish religious gathering? Was that donation initiated by Jesus?

God has left shiloh

Now see what became of Shiloh and why Shiloh is not the location for us believers in Christ.

Psalm 78 v 60
Then he abandoned his dwelling at Shiloh, the Tabernacle where he had lived among the people.

Jer7 v 12 'Go now to the place at Shiloh where I once put the Tabernacle that bore my name. See what I did there because of all the wickedness of my people, the Israelites.

Jer 7 v 14 So just as I destroyed Shiloh, I will now destroy this Temple that bears my name, this Temple that you trust in for help, this place that I gave to you and your ancestors.

Jer 26 v 6 then I will destroy this Temple as I destroyed Shiloh, the place where the Tabernacle was located. And I will make Jerusalem an object of cursing in every nation on earth.’”

Jer 26 v 9 What right do you have to prophesy in the LORD’s name that this Temple will be destroyed like Shiloh?

You see from scripture, Shiloh had its time of glory and then was destroyed.
God is not in Shiloh

If shiloh sacrifice is the way to get rich all the pastors in Nigeria will sow everything they have there and quit scamming gullible people.
Oyedepo will go and sow to other pastors and get rich
But they know sowing is a scam
They get paid instantly when you foolishly believe them and give your hard earned money while they have you waiting for the bank to make a mistake and give you miracle money

1 Timothy 5:17-18 ESV /
Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, [s]especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.”

Point 1
This scripture does not say you should be giving pastors all your money.it does not say if you give pastors that you give to God.it only posits that those working for the church deserve a little payment for thier service and offcourse the elders deserve a little more.do you earn the same with your company manager?

Matthew 10:41-42

The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”

Point 2
This verse says nothing about financial or earthly reward. It also doesn't state that you should be giving money to the prophet.it says if you receive, give little as water(food) for nourishment.God or his disciples won't need money but
Accommodation or food to have strength to continue the gospel.

1 Corinthians 9:11 ESV /

If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things from you?

Point 3
Again this verse validates what I said in the first point.it does not say if pastors reap material things from you then you are giving it to God.Again if you read further down paul said he will rather die than preach and collect money.

Malachi 3:10 ESV /m

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

Point 4

Old covenant verse.not relevant for Christians

1 Corinthians 16:2 ESV /

On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.

Point 5
This talks about donating for the upkeep of the saints..ie other brethren in service in some town not to one pastor.again it does not say if you contribute that it is to God.

Ezekiel 44:30 ESV

And the first of all the firstfruits of all kinds, and every offering of all kinds from all your offerings, shall belong to the priests. You shall also give to the priests the first of your dough, that a blessing may rest on your house.

Point 6
Old covenant scripture not relevant for Christians

2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Point 7
If you read down to verse 9 in context.you will see it talks about giving to the poor not pastor.

Romans 12:8 ESV /

The one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Point 8
Again this verse has nothing to do with giving to a pastor.it talks about the gift of giving which everyone cannot have.giving to the poor or maybe to meet any specific need.

Mark 12:41-44 ESV /

And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

Point 9
This was before Christ destroyed the physical temple.you could worship God in the flesh(money or burnt sacrifice)but after the cross you can only worship him in spirit and in truth.if you read further Jesus said not one stone of that temple where the widow dropped her last two mites will be left standing.any temple that takes a widows last two mite instead of giving the widow, christ brought it down at the cross.

My brother or sister I don't blame you.those that taught you are very greedy people.they gave you this scripture s to justify that you continue to give them money.like I said ,you cannot worship God with money.God doesn't need your money.the poor do.not your pastors.christianity teaches contentment.your pastors can be paid a stipend and so are church workers.but they can also be like paul and earn a crown in heaven by preaching without charge.paul said imitate me as I imitate Christ.the only way you can give to God is in Mathew 25 31-46.your pastors pretend they do not know.shalom.read my points in your quote to get understanding

I don't know but lemme tell you this:

I'm the least religious person in my family but the most successful (not bragging though). By the way, my family is not even a radically religious one, we are not penticostals. We love God and we worship Him in the most basic way.

But when I left Nigeria, I found out that success (and failure) is in my own hands! Give and take! Hoha!

I quite understand that there is need for humans to have a believe is some supernatural being but most of our beliefs are born out of sheer laziness. We don't want to do our part. We want someone or something to take responsiblities of our inactions etc.

Examples:
Pray to pass exam.
Pray to be rich.
Pray to buy a house.
Pray not to die (on top bad road, and Dangote truck, seriously?)
Pray to complete a project.
Shout/Type Amen to receive it.
Pay tithe to be rich
In the month of March, you will march to greatness etc

If you want any good result, the only way to get them is to work towards it! Work consistently and persistently towards it! It is only when you have done your best, then the ones you cannot change as a human being, you hand them over to God!

So I keyed into that and I have been succeeding exceptionally! Ameeen o. That's how individuals succed. That's how nations succed!

I remember as an undergraduate, I struggled so much with academics in my early years. I was at that time so distracted in a “good” relationship. Then towards exams, I get serious, read what I can and then pray! But Ds and Es were still flowing in. Haha. Thankfully in my 3rd year, I managed to end the relationship and paid full attention to books! Even without “prayers”, I aced all my courses, clinching a 2'1 by the feet!

I know folks are are not religuous and yet not successful (they know they are living below their potentials). Failure is also in our hands. Don't allow any human being threaten you with curses abeg. No man (except maybe your parents) can curse you and it will work because he is your “spiritual head”.

On a final note, my elder sister just failed an interview last week. When I spoke with her the morning of the interview, I knew she was not ready! Guess what? After the interview, she blamed God. Then she balmed her husband. Lol

I won't tell you what to do, or believe. But please use your brain!

Excuse me mr Successful, average, arrogant, insensitive, non brain washed christian, when did you start making money, asin money, and at what age? And what do you define as success? You don’t complain when we give to the needy, u don’t when we spend bulks of liquor and women, you don’t when we spend on various hobbies..... but whenever we give tokens to pastor that dishes out sermons every Sunday, word of truth that “always” have positive impact on peoples lives, you start complaining. As you dey sef, how much have you given to a pastor that warrant so much hatred?? Leave the people of God alone, the reason their blessings is so much is because they impact so many lives with the world of love and hope they share every time. Leave them alone. You people are cruel and foolish. . What if they fly private jets, do they fly it to go on holidays? They only fly it to go on evangelism and talk about God the more!!! Why are you hating Most of them are on fasting most days of the week, How much can they eat or drink?? Those that give are not fool, lawyers give, doctors, professor, high achiever in various careers, are they also dumb? You the only wise fellow who is so sure that this pastors don’t deserve our giving.... haba!! Leave them alone and face your life. Stop opening threads to accuse men of God. Muslims give to their clerics too, traditional priest receives from their ..... leave us alone to gift our men of God

Bros I like you in Jesus name
