A night is fast approaching. A night that conveniently holds the record for the highest figure of church attendance in every calendar year.

And it is the last night of the year that would see many people who have possibly not graced the four walls of a church building during the year troup in.

I wouldn't even surprise me if amongst those making up those record numbers are some of the devout atheists on this platform.

And the major reason behind those record figures is the idea that spending the last night of the year and crossing over into the new year could suddenly "change" their lives and situations around in the new year.

And also a lot of church folks' relationship with God are hinged on just one day when God would turn their story and situation around, such as from rags to riches, or from grass to grace etc.

Therefore that night of crossover offers them a perfect opportunity to exercise their faith towards realising such aspirations of theirs, so that in just one night all their story would change forever in that respect, as "old things shall pass away" with the old year in the night, and" all things would become new" in the morning of the new year.

But usually, despite all the faith and belief that they enthuse to that extent, as soon as the dust begin to settle, the reality soon dawns on them that it was just a night as any other, as nothing truly changes even though it is a new year, for a new year is just as the dawn of a another day.

Therefore the truth is that just spending a crossover night in the church building should not be expected to suddenly change ones fortunes or situation for the better overnight.

And besides, even if one's financial or economic standing is turned around overnight, that's not the kind of change that God seeks in a person, for the only change in someone's life that is being recorded in heaven is that of true repentance, which signifies a change from one living a life of wickedness and sin, to that of righteousness and obedience, for it is only then that "there is joy in heaven"(Lk 15:7).

There if that's the change that happens in the crossover night, then that's the kind of change that God desires and is earnestly seeking.

But if otherwise, such as that which many seek that make them throng church buildings on crossover nights, which is usually devoid of such repentance, then they should understand that that's not the kind of relationship that God seeks to have with them, for God is not looking for a one night stand.

Not saying it's a bad thing though, but just saying that spending the night in the church building on the 30th night thru the 31st is the same thing as doing the crossover, for there's no real difference.

For what changes is just the year and not the person, that's if the person doesn't change, they are still the same In the new year.
