Many Nigerians born before the mid-90s are likely to have fond memories of the Peugeot 504 — both its saloon and station wagon variants. The car and its sister, the 505 were easily the most popular cars on Nigerian roads for decades.

Originally manufactured in 1968 by French car maker, Peugeot, the 504 became a hit in Nigeria with 425,000 units assembled in Nigeria at Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) and production extending to 2006, making Nigeria the last country where the car was produced on a commercial scale.

By the way, did you know that the 504 came in 5 different body styles:

Peugeot-504-Station-Wagon See the Ultimate Car for Nigerian Roads

4-door saloon
5-door estate (station wagon)
2-door coupé
2-door convertible
2-door coupé utility (pickup)

Therefore it was nice to see this 504 on the road today and you don’t need to be told that the car has a lot of history behind it and it is still running. How many of the present day models of the different manufacturers can last this long on the road.

Aside that poorly maintained one you saw, very neat 504s are still seen driven with well deserved pride on the road.

I still saw one on Lagos-Ibadan express last month. Very neat.

I am very angry with Peugeot. The 504 models were kings of the road. Why didn't they continue with it just like Mercedes did with G-wagon?

Instead of giving us this plastic 306, 406, 307,etc they should have continued with 504 series.

I will never forget Papa Ebuka's 504 Evolution at the streets of Nsukka back in the days. Nice car

My Dad's 504 GL is still going strong since 1976! That's 42 years, people!
He fixed it up and gave it out, it's still live in the village.
He also used the 5-Speed SRII (Argentina); that one that won 4 consecutive Paris-Dakar Rallies.
Now that one is the ultimate!

Before the mid-90s?

Make that mid-80s

Tested and trusted.

(This particular vehicle has gone to the next level...)

yeah right my father had this car (4 door saloon)..he bought it in 1989 the man refused to abandon this car o... even though he later bought other cars... finally I destroyed the car when I was learning how to drive in 2006. my father did not forgive me until I bought him a car last year...

this car will cross sambisa forest with ease.

Sure. I'll love to have one of these to look unique. Most people buying benz, toyota, wagon, lexus.

So Nigeria has always been a dumpsite all the while?

We were still reviving stale French technology of 1968 in 2006 when the world was using Mercedes ML second generation and Honda EOD?

Absurd!
