Internet users in Nigeria increased marginally to 108.5 million in November, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said.

The NCC made this known on Friday in its Monthly Internet Subscribers Data for December posted on its website.

According to the data observed by PoliticsNGR, Airtel, MTN and Globacom gained more internet subscribers during the month under review, while 9mobile remained on the same figure as in October.

The data also showed that overall internet users increased to 108,457.051 October from the 107,106,975 in August,
showing an increase of 1,350,076 new subscribers.

The breakdown revealed that MTN gained more with 707,023 new internet users in November, increasing its
subscription to 41,678,804 as against October.

It said that Airtel gained 438,560 new users, increasing its subscription in November to 28,958,253 compared
to 28,519,693 in October.

Globacom gained 204,493 new internet users, increasing its subscription in October to 27,761,281 from 27, 556,788
recorded in October.

It further showed that 9mobile recorded 10,058,713 internet users in October, same as in November.

From what I kind see here, mtn keeps adding because of the following;

1. Strong network signal virtually where it's network is stationed except for a few
2. The double data offer they are running on new phones and sims
3. Taking cognizance of their customers compare to before when they were operating
4. Goodwill they have build over the years.

Suggestion: However in spite of the large economies of scale they enjoy MTN keeps taking decisions that might affect their sales. There are certain things you over look because of the effect on sales. For example the deduction of data during their happy hour time. A lot of Nigeria youth manages the night data plan of 500mb for N25 as result of the suspension of night calls( although this is as result of ncc regulation in other to encourage healthy competition), their competitors still do night calls within their network. Airtel for example still do free 2hrs calls daily within their network between 11p.m and 6a.m. It is either they report them or strategies to offer similar service. Aside this, MTN had listened to the complains many Nigerians complained about them. The introduction of Y'hello season of surprise is a kind gesture from them. Aside that the ability of communities or persons to vote for social welfare project is good gesture because it gives her citizens the opportunity to choose social welfare project for themselves instead of MTN doing selection.

Airtel comes second because;

1. The double data and free data offer to her customers
2. The advertisements. Many may not agree but the use of Ngozi Nwosu and others contributed tremendously in the purchase of data and sim. It got to a point that their rival glo copied their concept when they saw the effect on customers. Airtel slogan is "Data is life" while glo's own is " Data is oxygen ".
3. The current spread of 4G in many cities and having their brand compatible in many 4G phones.
Suggestion: There was a time when airtel was the second largest operator in Nigeria ( See;http://www.nigerianmonitor.com/airtel-overtakes-glo-to-become-2nd-largest-mobile-operator-in-nigeria/amp/). It sent message to the telecom market that this operator was serious on providing quality service delivery but I can say what actually happened that made them drop to third over night. Although I suspect some persons have settled each other behind the scene. Airtel however still have poor network delivery probably because of their limited station based across Nigeria. What they should do is to increase the quality service delivery and expanse their network to other areas. Secondly their billing rate on data is one of the mitigating factor as to why their sims are not selling fast as before. When they work on this, they may add up to one million in 3 months.

Glo coming third is as result of ;

1. Many still stick to them because it was their first line
2. The current launch of glo oga sim and data bonus. Although this made some persons to purchase their data and buy sims but the effect isn't effect.

Suggestions: There have been researches conducted by many researchers on the impact of celebrity of customers purchase ( see the publication of chioma ifeanyichukwu,2016 on "Effect of Celebrity Endorsements on Consumers Purchase Decision in Nigeria" for more info). Many of them suggested that celebrity endorsement has a positive effect on consumer's behaviour (Khan & Lodhi, 2016, Oyeniyi, 2014 and Friedman & Friedman ,1979 ). However the Nigeria market is dynamic hence continue use of celebrities at the expense of quality service delivery will force many from using your product. Hence glo should try and improve on the service delivery if they want to be called the grandmaster of data. Her major competitor don't brag they they sour high.

9mobile coming last doesn't surprise me because the key members in that firm have left Nigeria.
Suggestions:
1. Nigerians can manage the network well. We should stop this stereotype thinking that nothing good can come out from a black man. Dangote for example is a black man that is doing well in his business same goes to other Nigerians that own other corporate organizations in and outside the country. 9mobile should employ expertise in business and finance and strategic management. Professionals with relevant years of experience skills should head the board not persons with just MBA. Although experience is the driving force that can make them work. Aside this they should come up with realistic and good package that can make customers stick to their network. Presently the 9mobile cliq more and starter call tariff are the most expensive call tariff in the market. They need to review them because a lot of persons still make voice calls. The one offer package should be looked into because it is not affecting many consumers. Very few are affected while some just buy their sims use it for certain period and then dump it. 9mobile's network signal has dropped in many locations hence they need to overhaul their network before they are thrown out of the market or become liquidated like Gionee mobile. Lastly they should listen to their customers instead of dishing out products that may not satisfy their want .
