On this thread, I tried to show the significance of the trumpeted defeat of ISIS. Trump stated that ISIS had been defeated but this turned out not to be because it was disputed by his commanders and the pentagon.

Now today, we have received news that ISIS has been ''territorially'' defeated, ISIS last remaining stronghold of Baghouz has been liberated.

This latest defeat of ISIS by trump is not a TRUMP, why? Because the final announcement of the trump of victory over ISIS was not made by President Trump. The trump of the defeat of ISIS was validated by the Syrian Defence Forces. If it was a trump, President Trump would have emphatically announced it.

The significance of this is that, nothing must be taken out of the trump that he sounded on the 6th of February 2019. This was when he delivered the State of the Union Address SOTU. That SOTU is the last trump.

So the defeat of ISIS was not trumped by Trump, it was trumped by the SDF.

US-backed fighters in Syria's east have declared their final victory over ISIL, ending a four-year battle against the group that once held territory spanning a third of Syria and Iraq.

An official of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the defeat of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, or ISIS) group via Twitter on Saturday.

On Friday, Mustafa Bali, the head of the SDF media office said on Twitter that heavy fighting continued around Baghouz to "finish off whatever remains of ISIS".

The US Defense Department said on Friday that ISIL no longer held any territory in Syria, according to a White House spokeswoman.

US Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan briefed President Donald Trump as he was travelling to Florida on Air Force One, spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said.

She said that the "territorial caliphate has been eliminated in Syria". Responding to a question regarding whether the armed group's territory had been "100 percent" eliminated, Sanders said "Yes."

The SDF has been battling for weeks to defeat ISIL in Baghouz in southeastern Syria at the Iraqi border.

It was all that remained of the territory the armed group ruled.

Rise and fall of ISIL

ISIL began as an offshoot of al-Qaeda in Iraq, which in 2006 became known as the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI). The movement, led by key al-Qaeda figures, played a major role in driving the sectarian conflict that followed the US invasion in 2003.

ISI carried out deadly attacks in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, during this period, targeting Western-allied tribal leaders and US army posts before eventually being pushed out.

Kurdish-led group says last of militants cleared from stronghold of Baghuz

After almost five years, the battle to dismantle Islamic State’s brutal “caliphate” has ended with an announcement from US-backed forces that the militants have been driven out of their last stronghold of Baghuz, deep in the Syrian desert.

The militants had held out for months against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the small oasis town on the Euphrates river, clinging on to an area of land less than 700 sq metres wide despite fierce coalition bombing. But on Saturday an SDF spokesman, Mustafa Bali, tweeted that the town had been liberated.

“On this unique day we commemorate thousands of martyrs whose efforts made the victory possible,” he wrote.

The elimination of the caliphate is a significant symbolic victory against Isis, which at the height of its power held more than 8 million people hostage to its bloody interpretation of Islamic law in a swath of territory across Syria and Iraq that was roughly the size of the UK.
