Former Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood has passed away aged 82.

The Premier League made this known on their official website on Friday morning.

Hill-Wood joined the Gunners boardin 1962 and became chairman in 1982 when he succeeded his father Denis.

MySportDab report he presided over the club until June 2013, when ill-health forced him to step down from his duties.

In a statement, Arsenal wrote: "It is with deep regret that we announce the death of former chairman Peter Hill-Wood, at the age of 82.

"As we celebrate the unique achievement of 100 consecutive years in the top flight this season, the Hill-Wood family were at the helm for the lion's share of this special century, a testament to their tenacity and judgment in ensuring we have remained a significant force in English football for so long.

"Peter and his family’s influence on the club cannot be understated, but at this most difficult time for his family and friends, it is Peter the man who we remember with great fondness.

"Our thoughts are with his wife Sally and his children Sarah, Julian and Charles."

Meanwhile, Tottenham wrote on Twitter: "We are sorry to hear of the passing of Peter. We send our condolences to Peter's family and friends at this difficult time."

Arsenal won two league titles, the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup under Graham, who was appointed by Hill-Wood in 1986.

Hill-Wood also appointed Arsene Wenger in 1996, Arsenal won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups under Wenger before Hill-Wood stepped down due to ill health in 2013.
