The Police check points are mounted suddenly and indiscriminately nowadays is very dangerous. That is why even criminals and terrorists are now adopting same system. As for the officers that fled, may be they were criminals and not true police officers.

This is strong. But come to think of it, OP are you trying to blame the police for mounting check point? Check point is done even in my state too. From the crash, the man must have been using a high speed or maybe was about to dodge the check point. When one sights a police check point, one needs to slow down. Just my observation though.

These sons of devils called policemen stopped us and started harassing us yesterday. They finally let us go after making some calls to Some higher officers and parting with a few naira notes. It was very clear from the beginning that they were out to extort as they were never interested in the answers we gave to their questions. They eventually vanished from that spot immediately after the incident probably to harass other innocent travellers at another spot on the highway.
That's why I don't pity them anytime boko boys or armed robbers make minced meat out of them. Pray you never run into these robbers in an isolated area. it may be your last day if you don't accede to their demands.
I believe Nigeria police force should be disbanded and state police created. Those guys are demonic rogues. Spits.

This is why we Nigerians must learn to corporate with the police instantly to avoid unnecessary drama. Had they answered every question swiftly without prolonging the rapport, this wouldn't have happened.

I blame them for their death.

You are a total waste of sperm and egg.

Its a pity this is the end product of a 9month old pregnancy and painful delivery.

A family was involved in a fatal accident in the early hours of today while travelling to the village.  It was gathered that the man who arrived Nigeria recently from abroad, was travelling with his wife, two sons and his siblings to the eastern part of the country before the unfortunate incident.

According to GB Onitilo, the family members were stopped by the police on Otedola highway just before Berger at about 5.35 am on Saturday and they told the officers they were on their way to the village for the New Year.

While talking with the policemen at the checkpoint, a speeding vehicle rammed into their car from behind and wrecked havoc.

According to the eyewitness, the police officers allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident.

The wife was killed in the crash as her body was brought out from under the vehicle while the husband's left leg got crushed completely.

The children and others were unhurt as the wounded man was rushed to the hospital with the aid of emergency officials who arrived the scene on time.

The man is said to be okay and will be moved to another specialist hospital to attend to his limbs.

In a decent society, the police are the first at an accident scene. Then ambulances.
In Nigeria, the police is the last on the scene. If they caused it, they will vamoose like witch. Then the picture takers will flood the place and start posting pictures on nairaland and instagram

It seems like you are very very high on a fake Sapele roadside water.
The police officers were useless, brainless and evil. The Vehicle being check should have been on the road side. Secondly, there should have been a speed reduce sign before the checkpoint. Blaming the innocent family is totally off the wall.

More Wisdom.
Nelz77:
I totally blame the Police. Why did they flee

It’s because
1. They sighted that check point in a spot that has poor clear view. That’s to trap unsuspecting motorists who may turn on sighting them from a good head start.

2. If they had their suspicions about that car they should have cleared them off the high way. But they did not cos they were tactically looking for ways to extort them.

Check points have outlived its usefulness in Nigeria. It should be scrapped.
