Have you ever seen a great business with a badly-designed letterhead? Most brands recognize the importance of having a quality letterhead as it represents any business in a perceived way from the clients. Letterheads are very important because clients, potential customers, important suppliers, and even potential investors can try to perceive how professional you are.

They are very good for brand awareness, so it is important to design a great letterhead. It is not just enough to trust a graphics designer with the design process, but having a hands-on approach.

A letterhead should reflect your brand

A perfect letterhead must be consistent with other forms of marketing and should reflect the nature of your business. If you sell or offer a fun product or service, you can get extremely creative with the letterhead design. That is cool, but it may not be advisable for a more “serious” business. If you run a legal or financial firm, a more serious font style and size.

No matter the kind of business you are into, you must have a clean design that people can relate to.

Be mindful of colour on your letterheads

Too many ingredients spoil the soup, a popular African proverb say. While it is good to use your brand colours on your letterheads, don’t be too liberal with them. When there are too many colours on a letterhead, they can overshadow the contents of the letter. It is better to understand color theory, knowing which colours represent different emotive reactions from people. It is recommended that you use only two colours, preferably your brand colours.

Information hierarchy is very important

Arranging information on a letterhead seems like a very easy task, but it is not as easy as it sounds. Most startups and even established brands don’t know where to place the proper information. If you don’t have a window envelope to type the recipient’s address, leave space on the top left-hand side of the letterhead. For your own address and contact details will usually go on the top right or even at the bottom of the letterhead.

It is also recommended that you preview your layout on a print work before sending to the printer.
