it's funny that OBJ is reported to be going abroad to campaign for Atiku presidency (foreigners that are not voting) yet not visible at home during his campaign rallies (Nigerians are the ones who are going to vote). please don't let all these support fool you, OBJ is doing all these for his selfish reason. Imagine how he'll face intelligent people to market same Atiku that he has derided so much in his controversial biography.......... Old men without shame!

The only detribalised leader I've ever known in Nigeria is obasanjo. He was tagged president of the igbos and northerners during his tenure as president by my people. They didn't even vote him the first time in 1999. Here is same man who was defending buhari in 2015 all over the world, repairing his damaged reputations and lack of respect for the rule of law which truncated his government in the 80s rebranding him as a true democrat in the western world which led to waiver on his bam by the USA for his stance on religious and ethnic violence in Nigeria. Now, obj is defending another northerner again cos he's seen that buhari obvuously has got nothing to offer, just like GEJ. Gej we were castigating then even did far more than buhari did. Most of his projects...If not all, are what the apc is counting on, as their performance. If not the corruption which marred Jonathan's government and his nonchalance on tackling it, he'd probably have been the best president Nigeria ever had, given those massive projects he orchestrated and executed to some stages.

Be that as it may, politics is all about interests. In as much as the ruling party has been busy attacking baba lately , I'd rather advise they ponder on the message instead of attacking the messenger. Nigerians are crying, the economy isn't working and no investors are coming in . Our debt profile is alarming, insecurity is massive and boko haram keeps spreading like wild fire. How i wish the war had raged like this while obj was in office. We wouldn't have heard about boko haram anymore because he'd have treated their fuckup, as he did their leader back then. Buhari can't say he doesn't know their sponsor...why is he not fishing them out and prosecuting them? Buhari is leaving leprosy and busy treating eczema.until their sponsors are prosecuted and their sources of funds are blocked, boko haram can never be defeated. The federal government controls the central bank, the commercial banks they find it easy to block the accounts of the opposition members in less than 1 hour but has failed to do so to boko haram sponsors who also operate accounts with our local banks. Foreign transactions are always being monitored by the CBN. They ship their amunition into Nigeria through same nigerian ports. I remember a day we moved funds overseas and our account officer typed an acronym. Instead of writing it in full, he just put the abbreviation under payment transfer purpose. Our payment was blocked immediately...taking us 2 months to get it sorted with the CBN. They say the acronym was similar to a blacklisted terrorist organisation globally. We almost lost that deal because we supplied behind schedule. I believe our government knows what they're doing and if they fail to act now, they're merely postponing the evils day and it's the posterity that would suffer it. Boko haram are now extending their base to the north west and north central. Our government have called them different names to deceive Nigerians, except me. They started by saying they're cattle hustlers when they first hit zamfara and my question then was...How many cows do they have in zamfara that I visit regularly? Later, they said they're herdsmen in the middle belt and now, they're called armed bandits meanwhile, it's same boko haram. Nobody is above the law. Nigerians should get serious about this and stop being sentimental. Good morning Nigerians.

Thank you, brotherly sir. smiley smiley smiley God bless your heart and brain. Obasanjo is a gift to Nigeria. The best democratic president Nigeria has had, totally de-tribalized and patriotic.

His people hated him back then, cos unlike Tinubu and Fashola, he's a nationalist and doesnt promote regional interest over the rest of the country as is the agenda of the present tenant in aso rock.

Let them continue to disregard the letter and warning of obj and let small boys continue to throw mud. We shall see. Obj doesn't speak anyhow. He's the most connected and respected Nigerian internationally today. World leaders don't joke with his opinion and advice on Nigeria. We shall indeed see soon in Feb/March. ... Useless old man.. Did macron, Trump, Edogan, Obama, Angela Markel came to market themselves to Africa before they became president? Why must Africa leaders stoop so low for the international community... If we're not ready to Govern ourselves or stay independent we should call them back to colonize us.

Africa leaders are the reason the international community interfere in our affairs and also don't value us.. When you give someone too much importantance you Automatically loose your respect.

Obj traveled a lot when he was in office, GEJ did the same thing, PMB, the same And Atiku also going to the United States to prove a point. Obama didn't visit Nigeria for one i don't think Trump will...

Insofar as I don't want atiku to win, I think no sane president should underestimate the capabilities of obj. This is a man that commands respect in the international political scenes and they all tend to believe whatever he says. Till date, obj is more respected globally than buhari himself. It will be politically suicidal to underrate obj.

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Ahead of the February 16 presidential election, former President Olusegun Obasanjo will in the coming days embark on foreign trips where he will market Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the international community on why he thinks he will make a good president of Nigeria if elected.

According to Obasanjo’s aide, the former president who has not hidden his disdain for President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency is expected to visit leading countries and international organisations such as the United States, EU and the United Nations “where he will appeal to them to take special interest in the forthcoming election and also canvass for a leadership change to save Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, from the brinks of collapse caused by the Buhari presidency”.

Speaking on why Obasanjo has not been visible at the rallies of Atiku as he has always done with former candidates he endorsed, the aide said Obasanjo believes Atiku has the support of Nigerians already.

“The former president believes Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has national appeal and he is loved by Nigerians. Atiku, a former vice president, is already a known public figure who needs no introduction to Nigerians. You can see the show of love to him by Nigerians everywhere he goes. From the youths to the elderly, men and women, Nigerians are yearning for Atiku and they want him to preside over the affairs of the country come May 2019.

“So, there is no need for Baba (Obasanjo) to follow him about on his campaign. Atiku and the PDP can take care of that and from what we are seeing, they are doing a fantastic job.

“As an internationally acclaimed and highly respected former president whose voice carries enormous weight in the international community, Obasanjo’s focus for now is to market Atiku to the international community and convince world leaders that Atiku’s presidency will usher in a new dawn for Nigeria and reposition the economy.

“The APC government having seen Atiku as a threat has made a lot of negative comments about him just to tarnish his image.”

“So, from what I know, the former president will soon embark on foreign trips where he will not only drum up support for Atiku but also appeal to the international community to take special interest in the presidential election, especially after he has gathered that the Buhari administration has perfected plans to rig the election”, he said.

Speaking on the development, the PDP said any action taken by Obasanjo and Nigerians in rescuing Nigeria from the mis-governance of the Buhari administration is welcome.

Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said it will be a good thing for Nigeria if the former president can take the message across the globe.

“Whatever action is taken by Nigerians on the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari and even the plot of his self-succession will be welcome. As we speak, President Buhari has demonstrated that he is incompetent and that he does not have the capacity to govern this nation.

“All those angling for his reelection are doing it for selfish purposes and not on the conviction that he has performed well and will do more in the next four years.

“So, if former President Olusegun Obasanjo who is a lover of Nigeria, who is very patriotic and has made tremendous sacrifices for the unity and cohesion of our nation believes that he needs to take this message across the globe, it is all well and good”.

In a related development, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), on Tuesday said Obasanjo’s comments are unbecoming of an elder statesman and former president of a country.

In a statement made available to Daily Independent, Sagay said Obasanjo through his attitude to presidents who succeeded him has clearly shown that he is addicted to power and is suffering from power withdrawal syndrome.

“The status of an ex-president is one of quiet dignity, respect, discretion, decorum, discipline and restraint. Obasanjo does not have a single one of these qualities. We have had a number of former heads of state, namely, Gowon, Shagari, Babangida, Abubakar Abdusalami and Jonathan. All of these former heads of state have exercised discretion, restraint and self-discipline in relation to their successors, but not Obasanjo”.

Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information, came down hard on Obasanjo, describing him as a loser and national nuisance who is abusing freedom of expression.

Momoh, one of the national leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also said Obasanjo’s recent outburst that President Buhari is behaving like the late head of state, Sani Abacha, and plotting to rig the forthcoming presidential election is exaggerated.

“Looking at Obasanjo, my own take is that he has established himself as the most present former head of state in the history of Nigeria. He is present and vocal in every regime.

“He was present during Shagari’s time, he was present during Buhari’s first coming between 1984 and 1985, he was present during Babangida’s era between 1985 and 1993, he was present during Abacha’s time from 1993 to 1998, he was present during Abdulsalami Abubakar’s time, he was present during his own regime when he worked with Atiku Abubakar, whom he said can never be anything but has now come to be his agent.

“He was present during Umaru Yar’Adua’s time, he was present during Jonathan’s time and he is also present now. So, there is no time he has not shown his presence at any regime and God has given him good health for him to be able to be active”. But looking at his records, he has shown to the average person that he is a loser and unfortunate nuisance. Obasanjo is national nuisance.

“To him, there is no other person apart from Obasanjo. He is very active but wants to continue to be in power when he is no longer in power”, he said.
