Atiku is a thief and that’s the only issue here. About GDP, the recession was caused by widespread looting in the PDP administrations. We are not fools here.

Nigeria's GDP growth rate had already dropped down to 2% in 2Q 2015 before pdp handed over to apc. You should have put up an infograph of that in your post and saved yourself stress.

But in reality, what Atiku said is actually not true; it's actually just political talk to deceive the multitude of gullibles. Nigeria's economic lifeblood is dependent on oil. The moment oil price started dropping from mid-2014, so did our GDP growth rate. The rate had already fallen from 6% down to 2% before pdp handed over and bailed out of the sinking ship. Oh yes, it is a fact that pdp handed over a sinking economy to apc before it left, and amusingly now blaming the apc guys for all the mess. Afterall, 99.9% of Nigerians only noticed there was a problem after apc took leadership... PDp (and politicians in general) know Nigerians dont bother to verify info, that's the only reason pdp can be saying this now.

You have made some fine points.

The profligacy that led to the shocking figures you mentioned we're actually results of Jonathan's reckless profligacy, the first was the raising of workers salaries from 5,500 to 18,000.

Another was the petrol subsidies which gulped massive amounts of money.

But Buhari's medicine was worse than the disease plunging the economy into a needless recession. The recession wasn't caused by the drop in oil price but actually by exchange control policies introduced by the Buhari's government which Lamido Sanusi condemned to high heavens and have been a major source of sleaze in this government. Other economists like Soludo, Utomi and the Organised Private Sector too condemned it.

Honesty does not justify economic illiteracy.
