We are neither looking for a saint nor a devil.

We just need a mordern leader who understand's the world as it is now and who can lead us to economic posperity and ensure that our next 50years do not look like the last 50years.

Most folks do not think Jonathan is a "devil"  but even you cannot deny that he is dining with too many "devils" than is good for a man who will need to fight those very people , in future, if Nigeria is to make progress. The fight against corruption died under Yar Adua because Yar Adua's highly corrupt "god fathers" (e.g Ibori) influenced the appointment of Waziri and Aondoakaa.

Nigerians have had enough of desperate but mediocre Political leader who did not aspire to office yet because of good fortune , kingmaker backing, greed and hunger for power these type of leaders are in a situation where they issue out so many IOU's , because they realise they cannot win a particular position on merit, that will be paid for with the disbursement of our national cash into corrupt hands and top positions awarded to crooks (eg Aondoakaa and  Alao Akala) who only stand for terrible leadership that will  reverberate for generations !!!

Add to that the prospect of a compromised and insincere fight against our biggest nemesis - corruption , which will 100% be the case under a President who has sold his soul to the most corrupt in the land  (as Yar Adua did) just to win political office,  and you will understand why Jonathan currently enjoys very little support from the bravest and most progressive Nigerian individuals and organisations. Yet so many crooks are amassing behind Jonathan in what can only be interpreted to mean that those who are corrupt love Jonathan. We have seen the signs before and we are wary. It is nothing personal against GEJ.

Any explaination for how Aondoakaa is  now campaigning for Jonathan when the man should be serving a twenty year jail term for treasonable conduct ? The USA , with visa ban, has even punished Aondoakaa ahead of his actual victim i.e Nigeria under the leadership of Jonathan !!!!! Why will Nigerians like myself not feel that Jonathan is not up to dealing with the very difficult problem of corruption and malfeasance ?

you can always tell the difference between a tiger and a dog
GEJ is a little monster he is no different from OBJ in 2000, Abacha in 1995, and IBB in 1989

More childish and patently devious mischief . You would minimally have a Point if Tinubu is himself standing for office or if he is promoting an Alao-Akala type politician as the ACN candidate rather than what the former lagos Governor is actually doing i.e looking for a progressive , young and proven Nigerian performer to run as the ACN's presidential candidate .

Please , if you wan't , feel free to believe that I ferry drugs around for Tinubu while blindly failing to see that my support for the ACN is mainly because they are one of the few Parties ,so far, showing they may move away from "business-as-usual" choices in a desire to promote the emergence of a candidate that represents hope. If Ribadu's only godfather is Tinubu then that is a far better trade-off for Nigeria than Jonathan who enjoys the support of OBJ, Danjuma, Anenih, Aondoakaa, Alao Akala and some of the most ruinous hands in Nigeria's history who were behind various nefarious plots at different times in our nations history (Abacha life Presidency Project, OBJ's third term et al).

If what u write above is what u truely believe fine. . .but why not advocate for ribadu to join the PDP,instead of a regional sectional party like AC

For me i truely believe the PDP is what Nigeria needs for stability

we cant afford, these regional ethnic parties like AC,ANNPP,APGA and co

and the best way to make the PDP better is for it to co-opt any performing Governor into its ranks

so i would like fashola to join PDP,peter obi in anambra to join, mimiko in ondo to join and so on. .

that way PDP will gradually be reformed

Ribadu can never win an election in Nigeria,on the platform of a regional party like AC

Say whatever you like while , as usual and like most of Jonathan's die-hard fans, you continue to ignore addressing very obvious lapse in Judgements that shows Jonathan's corrupt and compromised mien.

You should tell us why Aondoakaa is now campaigning for Jonathan , instead of rotting in jail, when the treasonous role Aondoakaa played recently , that endangered the unity of Nigeria, so enraged the world to the extent that America has now slammed Visa bans on Aondoakaa and his family !!!! Jonathan , on the other hand , only see it fitting to admit our former AGF into his sycophantic and desperate campaign team !!!!

What has happened to Dambazau? How about those who forged Yar Adua's signature? What about the daughter of Yar Adua recruited to now campaign for Jonathan when Nigeria know that she was part of the family members of Yar Adua threatening to sue anyone that implies power be handed over to Jonathan because Yar Adua is incapacitated only recently ?

There are far too many indicators of how Jonathan naively thinks pacifying and 'carrying' everyone along , to include overt wrongdoers who deserve nothing but punishment , is the way to achieve project Jonathan . After Yar Adua, everyone knows that such thinking is very dangerous for Nigeria's continued existence. We do not need another President who has arrived on a highly compromised platform that will see him prevented from working in Nigeria's best interest.

If you think that Ribadu has even a 0.05% chance of clinching the Presidential candidacy of the PDP , then you do not know Nigerian politics at all. I do not foolishly delude myself that the ACN is now the most principled Party on Earth.

Nonetheless , it is the PDP Party , despite it's huge representation in the Nigerian leadership stratosphere , that has produced the worst performing leaders in Nigeria everywhere !!!!! OBJ even tried to oppose the emergence of Rotimi Ameachi , one of the best performing leaders in the PDP currently,  in a clear demonstration of how those who have got a stranglehold on the PDP's affairs and direction will , as a whole , always reject progressive individual who have their own minds and want what is best for Nigeria. To be 'controllable' and easy to teleguide is the required qualities the PDP seeks in those it wants to promote into high office.

A stooge , in the current PDP, will always enjoy support far more than a servant of Nigerians. That is why the most Principled and headstrong PDP members (Duke, Ken Nnamani, et al ) currently seem to have a problem with their own Party !!!

It is instructive to note that all the PDP Governors , endorsed by OBJ , in the SW region (Oni, Daniel, Alao akala , Oyinlola ) are simply atrocious !!!!! They are not the choices of Yoruba people at all. They are overt thugs and criminals not fit to lead a congregation of boys scout let alone a State !!! We all saw Oni opposed vehemently in Ekiti recently yet the PDP rigged him in against Fayemi (AC) !!!!

For many reasons I don't have time , nor feel inclined,  to delineate you should understand that progress for Nigeria is directly connected to the defeat of a behemoth (PDP) now devoid of any pretensions to principles in a transparent quest to bleed Nigeria dry rather than lead her effectively . Ribadu is best off running with the AC and hoping that , as with Obama and with American dissaffection for the ruling Party , coupled with youthful and popular endorsement from a nation fed up of "more-of-the-same" The 'forces may align' to ensure the PDP's reign is truncated .

It seems it is u that does not know Nigerian politics well. . .In the east AC is regarded as a yoruba party. . they can never win votes there

The 5 south east Governors have just come out and endorsed Jonathan for president, saying the old eastern region(of which bayelsa was a part of) has never ruled Nigeria before

In the south south the PDP controls 5 states and they will vote for Jonathan

In the middle belt states of Kogi, benue, taraba, plateau, nassarawa, kaduna, bauchi. .Jonathan has already been endorsed, and is set to win as the minorities are tired of core northern rule. . .bauchi is to be won with bala muhammed FCT ministers clout

In the south west the PDP controls 4 states. . and as long as AC does not field a yoruba man,i doubt that ribadu can win any PDP state, esp with OBJs influence

I have named 21 states for u that jonathan will easily win. . .check back in january 2011 for confirmation

now the constitution clearly states u must win at least 1/3 of the votes in at least 2/3rds of the states. . which is 24 states

Jonathan has already achieved that milestone in 21states. . .he only needs a 1/3 of the votes in 3 more states and he can get it in

Adamawa(with murtala nyako, who is opposed to atiku), kwara if saraki is somehow persuaded to fall in line, and katsina or kano(if the PDP nominates mohammed abacha who seems to be popular in kano, dont ask me why oh,)  or edo with anenihs help

Now. . . no other party even comes close to this in breadth,or is able to satisfy the constitutional mandate for victory

S-East leaders endorse Jonathan for 2011

Aug 17, 2010
|

ENUGU—SOUTH East geo-political zone, yesterday, unanimously adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as the presidential candidate for 2011 at the South-East Political Summit attended by prominent Igbo leaders and leaders of various groups from the five states in the zone.
They declared that Jonathan’s presidency would not only further the Igbo cause, but bring the much needed development to the South East region.

This came just as former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has promised that for unity, fairness, justice and progress of the country, he would only serve for one term if he won the election and handover to the South.

Chief convener of the summit, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, who read the communique issued after the event that lasted for five hours, however, said the Jonathan ticket would depend on negotiation that would enable Ndigbo table their expectations.
Mbazulike stated that in consideration of the national quest, Ndigbo would no longer accept to play second fiddle and considered irrelevant in a country where they played leadership roles during the struggle of its independence.
The communique read: “At independence Nigeria was made up of three regions which later became four regions that were further divided into states by military fiat over which Ndigbo had little or no say.
“The North has ruled the country for 33 years, the West 12 years, zoning or no zoning, rotation or not. The old Eastern region, for the sake of equity and justice, shall produce the next president of Nigeria. \

The region that produced over 90 percent of the wealth of the country should for a change, have a prime position in the governance of the country.
“That given the fact that what is now known as Bayelsa State used to be Brass District of Eastern Region, and that the Eastern and Midwestern regions have been marginalized in the presidency of Nigeria. Consequently, the summit has decided to endorse the presidential aspiration of Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan.”

The communique added that Jonathan’s endorsement “would depend on a successful negotiation of terms and conditions and agreement over other details.”
In his remarks, member, PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, suggested that Igbo leaders should meet with Jonathan to negotiate for the collective interest of the South East zone and personal and selfish interest of individuals.

Iwuanyanwu who declared that Igbos did not want the position of Vice President as the zone was likely to get the presidency depending on the decision of PDP, added:
“When PDP adopted zoning as a party policy, it did not take into consideration that a president may die in office and in the present situation, the party should look at the Nigerian constitution which empowers a Vice President to take over administration of the country in the event of a president’s death.

Former ANPP state chairman defects to PDP

August 15, 2010 11:56PM
print  email

Muhammad Bello, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) senator representing Kano Central, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the weekend, citing instability in his former party.

Mr Bello, who is the former state chairman of the ANPP, said his former party is no longer the “light and vanguard of the Nigerian people.” In a statement he made available to the press in Kano yesterday, the senator explained that squabbles within the party made it difficult for a member to nurse a legitimate political ambition within it. Mr Bello stated that the deep rooted crisis in the ANPP has led to the emergence of several divisions, a threat to electoral success.

“From 1999 general election to date, the ANPP has continuously been riddled with mind boggling problems orchestrated by crafty, villainous and fraudulent individuals who take immense pleasure in seeing the party in disarray,” he said. According to him, there is no better testimony to this than the dwindling fortunes of the party across the nation. He added that his former party is fragmented both at the local and national levels, with pitfalls that run counter to the norms and principles of a national organization. “In the light of the forgoing, I hereby write to notify you of my resignation from the membership of the All Nigerian Peoples Party from today August 11th, 2010,” he said.

The resignation of Mr Bello, coming barely two weeks after the state governor, Ibrahim Shekarau’s declaration for the presidency under the platform of the ANPP, is being seen as a big blow to the governor, considering the senator’s reputation for grassroots mobilization.

Obdurately focusing on Tinubu is a sign that , as usual, you think you have gained a relevant point that supports your arguement while , in reality, you have nothing and only show your ability to rely on deciet to back your stance.

Many of the iniative Fashola is getting credit for right now were inaugurated by Tinubu even with OBJ seriously fighting the Lagos Governor throughout a significant part of his tenure. OBJ does not endorse performers (when he is in power) who are not in his camp because , like the ultimate egotist, looking greats matters above everything else. If OBJ had remained President , and not Yar Adua, we can bet any Money that Fashola will be seriously impeded so that he looks just as bad as the criminals OBJ has saddled all PDP SW States with !!!

When OBJ is out of power , it is even worse with how OBJ looks for stooges (Yar Adua and now Jonathan) who will continue to make him look like "the best President ever" .

Most Nigerians can remember how OBJ dictatorially and vindictively suppressed the efforts of Tinubu to including witholding revenue allocation to the state of Lagos for upwards of two years, despite a court order mandating the federal government to release the funds !!!!! It is then obvious to most fair Nigerians that Tinubu's problems as Lagos Governor , is at least to do with OBJ's decision that "Tinubu must not succeed and the PDP must capture Lagos". I don't expect you to acknowledge that because your integrity is shallow. For the record, I am no fan of Tinubu but your focus on Tinubu while you ignore many of the dubious characters jonathan is now surrounded by , speaks volume of your hypocritical nature .

Rather than a focus on maligning Tinubu continously you should reflect on how Jonathan is now the "annointed" son of OBJ, Aondoakaa  shocked shocked and numerous highly corrupt Politicians and jobbers who have always endorsed corrupt and mediocre godsons/stooges to the detriment of Nigeria.

Are you seriously hoping that Nigeria becomes a one party state?
Nothing will ever reform the PDP. The fact that you think people like Peter Obi and Fashola will have the slightest dent on the corruption that permeates that party is enough reason for me to believe you're kinda naive about the heady effect power can have on Nigerians.

Don't get me wrong; i'll probably vote for Jonathan in 2011 (no better choice, doesn't mean he's a saint) but as long as one party continues to utterly dominate, the country will continue to be held hostage to the whims of a corrupt elite.

That is you not me . You claim the 5 SE Governors support Jonathan . This is a joke since , publicly , they all unaniomously snubbed coming out to outrightly endorse Jonathan when the likes of Governor Aliyu has come out to declare his support for IBB. All the so called "endorsement ", so far , has mainly being by political jobbers and mercenaries who , in the grand scheme of things, will not deliver votes to Jonathan because of how they are quickest to show their hand yet lack real influence. This is why I won't even comment on the States you think Jonathan has won since you have based too much on percieved "endorsement".

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-498302.0.html

The All Igbo Summit which held yesterday in Enugu has given tacit support to the touted presidential ambition of Dr Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. This is even as northern youths under the aegis of Arewa Youths Development Foundation stormed the Coal City in a different summit that saw them signing agreement with South-east youths to support a presidential candidate of the northern extraction.

The Igbo summit which held without any of the governors of the South-eastern states and many prominent Igbo leaders attending resolved that since Bayelsa is of the old Brass Division in the defunct Eastern Region, it would be wise for the Igbo to support Jonathan who is one of their own, but not without some conditions.

Unless the SE Governors told you of their "endorsement" in private , it would seem that objective folks can assume that the SE Governors have only "endorsed" Jonathan in the minds of Mr.Presidents fans. We were told the entire PDP "had endorsed Jonathan" and they will vote to remove the zoning clause in the Party's constitution in favour of GEJ , yet the Party voted unanimously to retain it as an example that when the show begin talks of endorsement and "States won" are nonsense.

As for Ribadu please continue to dismiss his chances because he can , in your opinion, only win under the PDP and not a "Yoruba Party" while insensitively (like Jonathan) failing to factor in the deep dissafection of most Nigerians with the PDP that is now seeing them uniting behind Ribadu. Jonathan becomes more unpopular by the minute (his insensitive actions are not helping) while Ribadu gains more acceptance by those who really have the power - i.e the Nigerian people- if they can be sensitized as to how to use said power by some of Nigeria's most loved, most charismatic and most respected individuals . Many of you Jonathan fans speak as if you are comfortable with PDP's rigging as long as Jonathan is the beneficiary otherwise you would not ignore how Ribadu is increasingly gaining the backing of Nigeria's 'good guys' and ordinary Nigerians. As with the American election , the dissaffection of Nigerians with corrupt leadership of the PDP coupled with an angry and vastly unemployed youth population (hence Ribadu's courting of them) may actually shock the PDP.

Ribadu has been building up steam for a while and he started working hard and gaining the backing of Nigerian individuals and groups with integrity a while back . I was at the "state of the Nation conference" in London (below) to see for myself the support Ribadu enjoys that cuts accross all ethnic groups . The AC see this too. A man all Nigerians feel is a good bet can certainly truncate the regional voting you so much believe in because of how we are in a relatively different time to 2007 when Nigerians were willing to gamble on an untested hand. In a free and fair election Jonathan will not win the vote of ordinary Nigerians (and many polls show this) because not many believe he can robustly fight corruption while also associating with the most corrupt Nigerians alive today. It is instructive for us all to note that many Nigeria , more than in 2007, now understand that nothing will work in Nigeria if the menace of corruption is not tackled sincerely.

@ Paddy Lo.

Kayode Ogundamisi , the founder of Nigerian liberty forum, took to the Streets of London to protest that Jonathan be made acting President while many of the sycophants now surrounding Jonathan hid away. He now scathingly writes against Jonathan below:

http://www.saharareporters.com/article/not-god-not-jerry-rawlings-only-nigerians-can-save-nigeria-them

Below is one of the comments to the article by Okwuchukwu Ezeanyika that demonstrates how Nigerians , from all walks of life are , beginning to think and talk. Certain occurences  hint at  pivotal moments in history for the observant individual . That Nigerians took to the Street recently all over the world is proof that our siddon look atitude is changing gradually . Pastor Adeboye has come out with his most incendiary words to date that "rig and we will fight you" .

By insisting it is only the PDP that can produce the President next year you are , like most insensitive election riggers, discounting the Nigerian voters . The PDP cannot punish Nigerians with odious and crippling misrule everywhere and yet posit that , because of the numbers of political position it holds, next years election is a done deal like Jonathan bragged recently. We should factor in how all Nigerians are talking to note that riggers will have it tough . If Nigerians are unanimously behind Ribadu , and given the current mood of the nation , he can win even with a "Yoruba Party".

reply GEJ has not done one thing right yet!Submitted by Okwuchukwu Ezeanyika, PA, USA (not verified) on August 17, 2010 - 01:50.

Kayode, what do you mean by 'support this government when it is doing what is right?' I ask: what has it done right? There is nothing like 'it appears to specialize in doing more wrong than right.' I posit that it has not done anything right yet. If I am wrong let someone correct me here.

We are not going to 'siddon look'. We have rallied round NUHU RIBADU already. He is the only one, apart from Buhari, aspiring to the Presidency today who understands what GOOD GOVERNANCE entails and demands. Others are after their pockets. Or what can you say about the treasury looters and jesters like IBB and Atiku?

I think GEJ knows that he is in a big fight for the PDP's Presidential candidacy with IBB and that is why he is hell-bent on profligacy, like trying to borrow over US$4.47 billion, in order to amass money to fight IBB. You know in PDP they do not try to convince you with their ideas but on how much money they can dish out to the members who will determine their fate.

We know that when OBJ dished out N50 million each to our Senators to vote in favour of his third term bid, IBB raised N70 million within 48 hours for each of the Senators to counteract OBJ. That was why OBJ went after IBB, his son, Mohammed, and business cronies, one of whom fled to Ghana enroute to the United Kingdom.

Kayode, I quite agree with you that the solution is not bloody revolution or military coup that could spring up another IBB or Abacha. The solution is that among the present aspirants is one 'real deal', an uncut diamond, and he is no other person than NUHU RIBADU. Let all progressive-minded Nigerians support him. Let Pastor Bakare and his SNG back him. This is not the time for unnecessary bickerings and pettiness.

If we rally round NUHU RIBADU and mobilize the grassroot Nigerians like Obama did with the hitherto docile and reticent African-Americans, we shall certainly triumph in 2011. Let us go

that says it all. all these praise singers/johnathan is the messiah brigade were silent when people were demonstrating during yaradua's long absense.

now all of a sudden, they are spamming nairaland with dubious johnathan is the best hope for nigeria and all that jazz, never mind that johnathan was part of yardua's administration

people who have criticised pdp are now willing to overlook it's faults, since they recognize it is the only vehicle which can carry their son to the presidency

roflmao!!

We should remember Yar adua had his set of praise singers, already ready with claims of progress and "stats"(all mostly Nigeria generated as well) to support their praise. Fast forward to the man's death and it seems it is his turn to take the blame for the bad while Jonathan is now the new one to be praised in much the same way.

I am still waiting to see if this man has anything tangible to offer the nation between the time he came in office and the time this term is over.

@paddy_lo

Theres nothing wrong with a one party state with vision like china. . .singapore. . even South Africa

The key is for PDP to co-opt the best from all other parties into it. . . .

whats wrong with ribadu,el-rufai,Fashola and co being co-opted into the PDP. .

u do know that once Jonathan wins in 2011. . the time of old fools like IBB,BUHARI,ATIKU will be over

so the young ones like ribadu will have to step up in 2015. . .well PDP is the best platform for that

. . .
For the record, I am no fan of Tinubu but your focus on Tinubu while you ignore many of the dubious characters jonathan is now surrounded by , speaks volume of your hypocritical nature. . .

It is quite obvious that Tinubu is your hero! cry cry cry cry cry
How can you support someone involved in something as hideous and evil as the international drug trade and then sound holier than thou about others. Surely, that is two-faced.

YIKES!!! I can't believe anybody would want Nigeria to become a one party state while comfortably hoping that the party would be able to "reform" itself. We need a government that would actually be forced to address the people and their needs by subjecting themselves to the polls with credible opposition in order to enhance the democratic process and make the people heard. I can see a possibly unecessary arguement coming smiley
