The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Jimi Agbaje, has asked members of the House of Assembly and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) not to plunge the state into chaos over moves to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Reacting to reports that lawmakers this week issued Ambode a seven-day ultimatum to defend his supposed inability to submit the 2019 budget to the House, Mr Agbaje sued for peace, saying the move was capable of jeopardising the smooth running of the state.

Mr Agbaje said: “Of course, the way Lagos politics has been structured over the last two decades, government actions are often dictated by open and covert objectives. That the legislators are hinging their action on the purported delay of the budget is simply a smokescreen for a very shameful undertone that the Honourable assembly members will not want to make open. They are yet to tell us their actual motivation for this superfluous move to shame the Governor.”

The governorship hopeful, who made this known in a statement issued by his Directorate of Media and Publicity on Thursday, added that the timing of the planned impeachment was wrong with elections just a few weeks away.

“I received the news of the impending impeachment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode with a lot of reservation, especially with its timing and motive. This is just 19 or so days to the Federal elections and the governorship, a fortnight thereafter. So the natural questions to ask are: Why this haste? And what is the motive?” Mr Agbaje said.

He stated that although the Legislature reserved the right to perform oversight functions, “such a responsibility should not be abused. It should be carried out in a manner that places the citizens’ interest above any pecuniary benefit to a vested interest.”

Calling on Lagosians to note what he termed an unfolding tragicomedy, Mr Agbaje urged them to choose his party, PDP, as a viable alternative to the ruling APC that had proved incapable of putting its house in order.

He noted: “Governance has ground to a halt owing to the schism between the two arms of government, both of which are dominated by APC. From all indications and from the findings that I have conducted, the action of the lawmakers is nothing but self-serving as dictated to them by the cabal ruling the state.”

Mr Agbaje carpeted the state chapter of APC for allowing the schism between both the Executive and the Legislature to fester for this long, saying, residents had been made to bear the brunt.

“The situation, in which we Lagosians find ourselves, calls for prayers. But more than that, the people of the state should take the practical step of voting PDP into office as the viable alternative,” Mr Agbaje said.

I dont understand why everyone is caping for Ambode. The only question that we need to ask is did he break the law or not. He's free to resign like Kemi Adeosun. Lol maybe jimi will pardon him like Nixon.

The state wont blow into chaos. The Deputy governor steps in for a 2 weeks then newly elected governor takes over after that. All the fear mongering is dumb.

How one man manipulates Lagosians baffles me till date. How can one old wretched man dictate for Lagosians on who governs them and no one can change the status quo? You can never try this iberiberism in the east. I trust my brothers.

It has to do with the culture of the Yorubas.

Looking at the pre-colonial history of Nigeria, you will know the cause. You see, the British colonial masters easily shoved their policies down the throats of the peoples of Northern Nigeria and Western region through the Emirs and Obas respectively. The peoples obeyed everything their leaders said, even when it was irrational, making it easy for the British to implement their laws.

In the Eastern region, it was a bit different because there were few unifying leaders to force such laws on the Igbos. A British author noted that the Igbos always had a meeting to decide whether a law was good for their people or not. As a result, the British had a tough time implementing their policies.

So the same thing is playing out in Lagos today.

I often tell people that life is not a Nollywood movie.

Bad things do not always happened to bad people and good people do not always end up happiest.

I learnt this earlier in life.
The best students in my primary and secondary schools are not the most highly achieving today. Most of them didn’t even end up with first class in the University.

Even the first class students in most Universities do not end up the most successful.

Academic success is a little too overrated.

Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard to establish Facebook and he became the 5th richest man on earth. He is still in his 30s. Although he went back years later to tidy up.

Bill Gates also dropped out and he is the richest man on earth.

Virgins do sometimes end up marrying crazy philandering men, while some prostitutes do end up marrying men who worship them.

I’ve seen a woman who had several abortions but ended up having children in marriage when she was ready, while some virgins suffer fertility issues.

I’ve made up my mind to take calculated risks in life, and do what works for me. There’s really no almighty formula to success in life. If you see any opportunity, take it. As long as you aren’t making illegal moves and you aren’t hurting anyone in the process, go for it.

While APC faithfuls what you to believe that Saraki has pocketed Kwara State, they would never for once tell you how much damage Tinubu's godfatherism has done to not just Lagos State, but other south West states.

This enslavement is going to continue till Lagosians take the bull by the horn to liberate their state from Tinubu's hegemony.

What is wrong is wrong, irrespective of party affiliation.

It is about Lagos at the end of the day, and not anyone's chiefdom.

Good sportsmanship there Jimi.

This about sums it up

The people who sold #Ambode to you few years ago, are the ones telling us he is a terrible leader who isn't fit to hold the governorship position. Hence, the impeachment moves.

Interestingly, they are the ones selling Sanwo-Olu & Buhari to you.

Sadly, you worship them!

Read about Madam Tinubu (the adopted great grandmother of Bola Tinubu) and you be shocked to think Bola Tinubu is her reincarnation.

Her level of greed, wickedness and despotic disposition can not be matched by very few people in history.

That witch made her money selling Yorubas

Lagosians just like Tinubu, I don’t know how that love and admiration cane about and became so strong.
My neighbor told me something one day, that Tinubu is their political leader in Lagos, that whatever he says they will do.
I just said okay.

Even the bible support ur write up

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn't always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn't always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don't always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.
