If its this type, theres a way to use ur mtn sim inside of the airtel router. Just put the mtn sim in, turn the router off and on, when it comes on, login on d webpage, under network settings, go to network selection and change it from automatic to 4g. Wait like 15 secs, the network will start working.

Per my experience of using Airtel for one full year now, if their network is good in your area, go for it. If they decide to misbehave with network outages, call their cc and threaten to migrate to MTN of nothing is done.

Did it and it worked for me.

The most frustrating thing with Airtel is its not even the network dat is actually bad, u will have a normal Airtel sim in ur phone browsing at amazing speeds and other 4g routers doing very well but, the odu is consistently being throttled behind the scenes by them. Thats why these days, they don't allow u to change apn or dns. U will always here people saying, "it was good at first", this is clearly not a situation of good network but to throttled network. BTW, most of u currently enjoying the airtel re mostly the ones who swapped to physical sim to use on x25pro and not odu device itself but no be every body get power for dat kind of stress. If u paid for something, it should work as advertised but Airtel don't want u to use unlimited data freely but will still be advertising it, it's not by force abeg!

Make sure to install megarepo extension before u search. To do this, click on add extension, ignore the first line and go on to the second line and just put megarepo, search and install. Make sure to press the download button by its side after adding it.

If u have any dormant pc at home especially a desktop, u can easily just download and setup an android tv that will most times serve u better than these set up boxes. Don't get me wrong, it will still serve if u buy it but not worth it if u already have something that does it job even better.

As for stealing data from unactivated Sims, I don't know how possible that is and how it then becomes impossible for esims.

I just want to test the MTN ODU and definitely would prefer external sim I can use on the go like I do with Airtel.

So for stealing data on unactivated devices, u dont have to understand that part, bottom line sha, mtn has made it mandatory for embedded sims to be used on their odu devices, even the devices are not handled by their customer service department but by their broadband team thats why the agents cant even swap even if they tried.
Maybe just stick airtel for physical sim then.

Meanwhile, I entered MTNN major office in my state and asked of ODU. They have it but I insisted on external sim which seems alien to them. They said they only have esim and don't do swaps for ODU. The manager is not open minded so I left.

I will wait until I'm sure the sim swap works before buying the ODU.

As long as it's mtn, just zero ur mind on the physical sim thing 4 now because it is new policy from the top brass in the company to make the odu an embedded sim device in order to combat retailers who keep stealing data from unactivated devices via sim swaps and reselling at lower rates 2 end users. Personally i don't mind the trade offs because for me, compared to Airtel, mtn is very reliable, i think Airtel re not serious yet.

just look for a used airtel m30 mifi(as low as 6k on Facebook marketplace) and use it for this purpose but can only extend using wired option, not wireless.

So I have a very complex issue.

Since Saturday, the network in my House has been really bad, close to non existent. Like switching between 60kb, no Internet, and 500kb at night. I contacted CC via Twitter and they be like " fixing it and shiii" but nothing.

I take the device to my office and it's blazing at max speed. Wtf, I'm thinking the network in my House ( location ) is the issue. Back home, I do all kinds of settings, and tweaks ( been using Airtel router since 2024, so I know my way around the technical side of it ). Band locks, cell locks, APN, and Network mode change. Nothing works.

I sub my alternate Airtel number, put in the router and behold its blazing well. What the heck is going on?? So the network is my location is not the problem, but my ODU simc card is acting up even though same sim card is working fine in my office.

I call CC and asked to speak to a supervisor, explained everything and was told to restart the ODU after an hour, if problem persists, I should take it to Airtel office and have an installer come and check my ODU position ( I'm skeptical about this advice because my Alternate sim works just fine in same position leading me to believe the supervisor is clutching at straws here).

2 hours later, problem persists. At this point I really don't know what to think or do anymore.

Just venting, maybe someone has/had same issue and probably got it fixed.

Uptil now, most of u don't yet want to admit to the fact that airtel unlimited has been a gimmick and selling strategy to get ppl onboard the airtel network. The problem is never about devices(their devices are actually good) nor network as i here a lot of u like to say, "make sure airtel network is good in ur area', airtel network is actually good in over 70% of locations across this country. The problem is, they have no intention of giving people the unlimited data they advertised, therefore they just throttle down those using the plan at random or collectively, if u doubt me, just purchase any other normal airtel plan on the same sim or device and watch how usable ur data becomes.

My thinking on airtel network issue is they're suffering from congestion they've marketed their 5g devices well and a lot of forks have bought them but they don't have the capacity for the surging numbers normally this originates from two points their back haul capacity which they can fix by allocating more bandwidth to particular base stations and two base stations congestion where the number of people in a particular area exceed that which the base station can handle so instead of fully utilising carrier aggregation they force the base station to allow connections to less band per person allocating the remainder to the excess numbers with limited speeds so they have to either increase their PCL on a base station or build an entire one from scratch

Or airtel is purposely throttling down subsribers on unlimited data plan because it is common knowledge that when subscribed to capped data plans on airtel, one hardly ever has to deal with any form of network issues, only happens when subscribed to unlimited plans.

Its airtel m30 but this doesn't really matter. If u re using the the zte odu, u can actually use any wan enabled mifi as ur idu. Even mtn locked mifi will work as long it has a wan port. This is just to make ur battery last more for u though and maybe enhance portability if u want to move with it around. I don't think there are any more benefits to doing this than what i stated above. And this is not a hard thing to try out, wondering why u re hesitating so much. U just literally only need to unplug ur idu lan cable connected to the ups and instead connect the m30 dats all chief.

I have the M30 too...can you please explain exactly how you did this with the ZTE ODU?..or preferably with a picture of your connection to it

Nothing technical, just disconnect the idu from the poe powerbank and connect the cable into the m30, thats all.

really? Since I enabled that, I have never seen my 2.4Ghz on any device again. Pc, watch, tv, phones, game.

But glad to know it means something different.

This is because the 2 ssids are merged into one which is usually the 5ghz one. But it doesn't mean all devices connected are using 5ghz, it optimizes and chooses which is best for each device accordingly.

There is, if u buy the 5g router, the sim can do unlimited. I also heard the option is also available for the premium 4g router which is sold at 40k. Will be getting dat one as soon as my odu subscription expires.

Buy zlt x30 and never worry about how you would use your aitel unlimited subscription when you go out of your house

Help!!! I think I burnt my idu yesterday. I was trying to see if it can work as an extender. The next thing I saw was smoke coming from the idu. It is currently on but I can't seem to be able to connect to the device. It is an X17M zlt

Give more details, did u use a charger not meant for it or a power bank with less power? No device will just blow up because it's used as an extender.

You're using the M30 with the ZTE ODU I guess? M30 is probably not PoE capable and won't work with ZLT ODUs. Or is it Huawei?

Yes, with the zte. Already had a power bank so no issues there plus i imagined a lot of people will have this.

So i have been following the thread for awhile now and i have learnt a lot from all of u. I also want to give a small update I just discovered. So i have this m30 mifi that has wan port and i decided to use it in place of the idu so as to reduce the bulk and battery consumption when moving it around. Lo and behold, it worked like a charm and the battery now lasts way over 12hrs since it's only the odu that's now connected to it. So basically, the idu was the main culprit on the power bank since it uses dc power. This also means, if u have any mifi that has a wan port on it, doesn't matter if it's mtn or airtel, it will work.
