There are 3 distinct groups of fulanis
1. The fulbe nai or cattle fulani.
who keep to cattle rearing moving from one place to the other in search of pasture.

2.the bororo'en
this group are the most pure blooded fulanis,they keep large herd of cattle,they remain essentially non moslems,while the others had been champions of the islamic faith,they keep strictly to the fulani language,fulfude. They do not inter marry with other tribes.

3.the fulbe sire or town fulani.
This group has for long settled in villages and towns in large numbers,they had intermarried with the people.they speak the hausa language rather than fulfude,they are respected for their learning and wisdom.

El Kanemi isn’t Fulani. In fact they fought the Fulani to a standstill. That’s why there’s no Emir in Borno and yobe only a SHEHU. The true Fulani jihadists were Usman don Fodio, Idris Aloma, Alimi of Kwara etc.

The op forgot to tell us that all the 3 grps of Fulanis are alien, foreigners to Nigeria soil. They came from Southern Morocco, guinea, Futa jalo , Niger, Chad, Mauritania etc to this part of Africa. They are Arabs slaves from the peninsula in 12th century.

Very true. One of the reason Usman Dan fodio stop is campaign in the area is because they were already Muslim even before the arrival of Usman, so the claim of Usman of pursuing Islamic agenda do not hold water in those areas.
