The National President of Academic Staff Union of University, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, has advised the Katsina State Government to implement the FGN/ASUU agreement to save Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Kaduna from collapse.



Awuzie told newsmen in Kaduna, on Wednesday, that the advice became necessary considering that most of the lecturers at the university were planning to leave due to non-implementation of the agreement.



“In fact, the observation I made is that most of the lecturers who are here are planning to go to other universities and if this happens, it will be disastrous for the university.



“The greatest investment that endures in any nation is investment in human capital development, not the number of roads you build or how much money we steal.



“This agreement was not signed this month. It was signed more than a year ago between the Federal Government and ASUU. What have they been doing since then?‘‘, he asked.



He said the nation was blessed with so much material resources that it should be able to impact positively on the lives of Nigerians by providing their children free education.



“Education is the only thing the poor man can get from this system because he doesn’t have water, light and other things to show for it,‘‘ Awuzie added.



NAN reports that Awuzie was in the state to demonstrate solidarity with the university‘s branch of ASUU, which is on a two-week warning strike over non-implementation of the FGN/ASUU agreement.
