Hi guys,

I want to request to pick up my visum personally from the embassy rather than have it dispatched to my address?

How do I go about it?.

Send an Email to the Embassy requesting for personal pickup. You can also send someone you trust on your behalf for visa pickup at the Embassy. It is very possible too. Shalom

If is for semestee fee, semester fee is paid when you have arrive Germany. Embassy will not ask you about money or accommodation, unless your going for school that has tuition fee.
Because for here, before you can secure accommodation you must sign the contract yourself. With that contract, that is what you will use to register yourself in the city your going to and get work permit.

The bold words actually depend on the school and timeline given. You are meant to pay semester fee within the certain period of accepting the admission by some schools either you are in Germany already or not, failure to do that means only one thing which is given the slot to other students on the waiting list. Some schools could give a week, some 2 weeks while some till you enter Germany because they need you to enrol in person. Shalom

2.2 on German Scale.

Thanks for your updates, guys.

I did a little research and stumbled on this post from a Nairalander, www.nairaland.com/676173/german-embassy-visa/84#16493358. After doing my calculation based on it, i got a 1.69. lol.

Sir, please can i get the link to the website that did this calculation?

I just want to believe that whether 1.69, 2.2 or 2.26, i am at an advantaged end.

Thanks for your replies, guys. I really appreciate

An idea came to my mind now and I want to know if its feasible in Germany

I applied to many Msc programs but my most desirable program is not tuition free.
The program is Geomatics at Karlsruhe University of Applied science and they charge 1500 euro per semester which is approximately 3000 euro every year.

Now, I don't have that money but I have a plan which I wanna find out from those in deutschland if its feasible.

I plan to get enrolled in other university that is tuition free and after one year, I will save enough money during summer holidays and also use that opportunity to learn deutsch upto B2 level and now reapply for my dream course Geomatics in Karlsruhe .

Is that possible?

Generally, you can change school in Germany easily within your first 3 semesters but you might need to have a short interview with the alien office if you want to change your school from the 4th semester and above. So, it means that it is totally possible. As a matter of fact, if you are in school A and the whole thing is turning South, do not wait till you get into exam regulation troubles before you port to another course or school. Shalom

Law has been very uncommon on this thread if I'm right. Last time I remember someone mentioning law I think it was said it requires a sound knowledge of German. Can't even recollect the school mentioned. Someone remembers please help out.

You will have to beam your searchlight on private Universities to be able to study Law in English which is not free or cheap. I think it is better to study something related to it if you do not have the money. Note: This does not also mean you can practice it as a profession after graduation despite the huge tuition. Shalom

Good afternoon everyone,

I'm so much glad finding this group, I started following from thread(5). Many thanks to the bosses and gurus here. I really need help.

I graduated with 2.49/5.0 Nigeria scale equivalent to 2.8 German scale (Food science and Nutrition). And I would like to go for Msc. Yes, I know my chance is slim. But someone had narrated how he got Msc admission with a lower CGPA(2.9, German scale). My problem now is that, I finding it very difficult to get a school either for UG/PG where I can study something related to my UG program. Most of the one I see required me to have a certain level of proficiency in German or 2.5. Help a brother, God bless you all.

Check through DAAD, if possible get the list of all universities in Germany on Wikipedia and open their websites one after the other cos not all schools are on DAAD. Check each school and their courses offered. I'm sure you'll find something related to your stuff.

I'll conclude with an advice: Ensure you apply for a BSc alongside too... In case MSc doesn't come. A lot has been said about grace, luck, chance etc.

Ndydy:
Hello all,
Been a while I posted well life happens when you have school work and German language class to balance. So just decided to give an update FROM MY PERSPECTIVE about life in Berlin Germany. Please it's not for generalisation, it's my own opinion so do not attack my post. Instead share your own opinion and we would all learn.
1) Try to learn German in Nigeria its way cheaper... At least do your A1 and A2 in Nigeria if you can. For A1 alone I paid 490 Euro here in Berlin. So you can imagine compared to the price of Goethe institute in Nigeria.
2) When budgeting for accommodation please budget for deposit ( kinda like security deposit). It's usually 2 to 3 months rent at most. You get it back when you leave the accommodation in a good condition after your contract expires.
3) Start your accommodation search as soon as you possible once you have do e your interview . Don't hope on studentwerk the waiting list is 3 semesters. Use your contacts join groups on Facebook eg Berlin housing, flats in Berlin etc but remember there are loads of scammers and time wasters on the prowl.
4) Accommodation in Berlin is expensive but you can get cheaper accommodation in the outskirt of Berlin. If you don't mind travelling for over an hour to get to school you should consider it. Also keep in mind during winter and strike times you might have transportation challenges.
5) Anmeldung is important but getting an accommodation that offers Anmeldung is more important. This helps you avoid necessary stress of repeating the process when changing accommodation.
6) Read the fine lines before signing any contract eg internet , phone, gym, insurance and so on. Contracts are binding here and hard to get out of once they are signed. Try starting with flexible short term contracts.
7) Eating out is great but cooking saves you money so bring you properly packaged Nigerian foodstuff when you are coming to Germany.
cool Make sure you pay your ARD fees ( broadcasting licence) , you can run but you can't hide from them forever especially since they know where you are thanks to Anmeldung. It is compulsory and just one payment per apartment so always discuss this with your potential housemates.
9) Recycling is compulsory and not hard though Berlin is dirty sha but cleaner than Naija by far.
10) A lot of generous people in Berlin giving stuff for free please join Free your stuff Berlin on Facebook. Please take only what you need try minimalist living, no space for clutter here.
11) Free food is great and cheap food is also great download 2good2go app tells you where you can find restaurants and bakeries leftover food for very low prices around you. Here there is no make we freeze and warm am for customer tomorrow. Food is served fresh and daily in most places.
12) Berlin is very diverse you would meet all kinds and types of people. Be friendly, be polite and most of all MIND YOUR BUSINESS.Try not to stare, Berlin is very LGBTQ friendly so don't be shocked. They are humans like you and might be one of the kindest people you will ever meet.
13) To survive in Berlin you need money, so hustling is very welcomed . Please drop your cloak of proudness in Nigeria because here there is dignity in Labour. Without German your job options are a bit limited to mostly unskilled labour eg cleaning, delivery, serving etc. Though people have gotten very good jobs without German so keep applying and don't limit yourself.
14) There is a drug culture in Berlin which unfortunately alot of our black brodas are the people selling em on the streets and it's quite open. If it's your thing well suit ya self. If it ain't when they approach you smile nicely and say No and find your way.
15) There are stupid people everywhere even in Nigeria so try not to get defensive when someone hurls racial insults at you. No need in putting yourself in harms way because you are trying to defend your blackness. A smile and a God bless you or Thank you or good old ignoring them does the trick. Try not to grovel in the mud with the pig.
16) Police is your best friend anything happens pls report to the police. Documentation always wins in the end. You get robbed or you lost something important report to the police.
17) In Germany you do effective work , meaning 8 hrs work is 8 hrs of work. No pressing phone or chatting with colleagues during working hours save it for your break time.
18) PUNCTUALITY please always be punctual 15 mins early always works. Pls pls no African time.
19) Socialising is a bit tricky here but it's easier if you join social groups there are a lot on Facebook . Also Berlin has a lot of activities you can join groups for . Salsa, bouldering, painting, cooking, fitness etc Soo much to do here. Best way to make friends is to socialise via activity groups.
20) Germans are very straightforward and conservative so you know our tendency of having no boundaries doesn't fly with em. So be subtle in your socialisation before they call police on you or report you to HR.
21) Make use of your student discounts find out places that offer student discounts and use them to save money.
22) Keep your music low and conversations down. Sunday's are noise free days someplace you ain't allowed to vaccum or mow your lawns on Sunday.
23) African restaurant and shops are available just google you would find some there is a big Afro shop run by Indians called Punjabi store in Osloer str you would get some Nigerian stuff there even catfish.
24) School work and exams are usually packed so study hard to make good grades. Most times they don't like story story just go straight to the point where you answer questions.
25) Be nice to each other especially your fellow Nigerians and share information when you have it. Quit your hoarding info habit, don't bring it here. Asian people dominate in most places because they have a good information network and share with each other.

Hope this helps I might not be here again until sometime later. Till then keep striving and wishing you all the best in your endeavours.
Cheers Ndidi (female lol don't sir or guy me)

This is very insightful!

Yes, but in the first form, there is this space for picture but it wasn't marked with asterisk (indicating that it is optional), but in the last part which is the section of uploading documents I understood that all files ought to be in PDF. I will continue with the application tomorrow evening shaa. Just finished the ML, will review it again before submitting.

Before uploading you mean. There is nothing like submission button in Karlsruhe.
As a matter, they have even received your application. You can confirm by checking your email. They normally receive your application even before you will be taken to upload area. Upload area is in support to your application which is already received so you don't need to click any additional submit button

One more thing. If I change from one course to another related course after one semester.
Example after one semester of studying geology at TUM, I change from the school to study geomatics at Karlsruhe University of Applied sciences.
Will I start afresh or Continue from second semester since I have already done my first semester in another school?

In my humble opinion, I don't think you should be so bothered about the tuition issue to this extent you stated. Just get the admission first, even though finances might hinder some processes, but once you don show, you don show be that and invariably something somehow somehow go happen.

From information I gathered so far, Karlsruhe gives you two years straight when you go to extend your permit, so invariably you don't have much to worry for the second year as per showing another block money. Now if you plan yourself very well, you see you can easily pay your tuitions each semester while you work and study.

Usually from what I also learnt, the first six months are somehow tedious cos of the compulsory modules to be taken as well as settling down issues, so to be more realistic, you can go for a job before the second semester commence.

The profs are really nice and friendly only if you demonstrate seriousness, but don't expect to be spoon fed.Just be a good chap, lol. They are highly connected as a good number of them are already in the industry and they link their students to very good job offers. Imagine getting a student job offer for something above €1000/month.

In all, you will definitely be fine. So it's possible to sail through the storm nevertheless. All the very best.

NB: Am not trying to down play the tuition fees issues, am just giving you some possibilities I know do exist, based on details made available to me through seniors.

Hi everyone,
I'm asking this for a brother-like friend.

This bro did his WAEC in 2002 but he wasn't didn't have the opportunity of going to a higher institution to further several reasons/happenings in his life. Yesterday we were talking about studying abroad and he asked me if I know anything about studying in Germany. I told him I'd help him find out about studying in Germany.
His questions are
with that 2002 result, can he still apply to a German school as undergraduate?
if the answer to is Yes, as an undergraduate will he be allowed to relocate his family with him?

Thanks

Anyone you learn is a goal.

Besides, you don't have to start with a very cumbersome programming language that will take you years to know. You can start with Database Management. This will only take you months to know, before you know it, you have a skill in the bag already. Most people don't seems to pay attention to this skill and the demand is hot and it is paying really well.

Hi bro, can you point me in the right direction as to how i can learn this skill?

Hello!

About the brother, WAEC alone is not sufficient to apply for a Bachelors degree. He needs it together with any of the following:
1. Completed 100L transcript
2. HND
3. Bachelors degree.

Age isn't much of a factor, but he should be able to convince the VO why he hasn't been in school for a while.

About the family, as most Pple do advise here, it's best he goes first and settles down, then bring his family via reunion visa later.

Shalom
