The 2019 Polls, A Deterioration In Process Quality by coolscott(m): 2:29am On Feb 24, 2019 |
From the reports of violence coming in from several parts of the country, it seems apparent that the country failed to make progress on the gains of the improved elections we witnessed in 2015. There was violence in 2015, but there was improvement. The card readers were used. We expected the use of the card readers to be added into are electoral act, but for his own reasons, the president did not sign that bill. Now, it seems that soldiers get directly involved in the process, as opposed to what we saw in 2015, when the court ruled that the military must not get within a certain distance of any polling unit. I think one major difference was the commitment of the last president to respecting the outcome of the elections, as opposed to what most believe to be this administration's all-or-nothing approach to retaining power. Indeed, the process seems haphazard, and we seem not to have improved on the improvements recorded during the last elections (the Jega regime) even if that is what we all had hoped for our country, going forward. 1 Like |

The mere fact that there are polling units were ordinary cannot go and cast their votes because of the threat of violence, is completely absurd. The political class has empowered thuggery and the thugs that perpetuate thuggery, such that it is the thugs that own the process. When the process that determines leadership outcomes within our country gets properly marinated within the devices of such thugs as we see grab ballot papers (maybe burn them) and chase voters away, what kind of country/society do we expect emerges out of that scenario? 1 Like |
