Power generation in Nigeria lost 1,108MW in seven days, leaving the country with just 3,456 megawatts since Tuesday. A new report obtained by Punch, showed that the total power generation dropped from 4,564.60MW as of 6.00am on February 19 to 3,456.20MW on February 24, a day after the presidential and National Assembly elections. It however stood at 4,358MW as of 6.00 am on Saturday. Data from the Nigeria Electricity System Operator, an arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, showed that generation fell further to 3,456.60MW as of 6.00 am on February 26. The system operator put the nation’s installed generation capacity at 12,910.40MW; available capacity at 7,652.60MW; transmission wheeling capacity at 8,100MW; and the peak generation ever attained at 5,375MW. The nation generates most of its electricity from gas-fired power plants, while output from hydropower plants makes up about 30 per cent of the total. https://unclesuru.com/2019/02/28/power-generation-loses-1108mw-drops-to-3456mw/ 1 Like

My observation and advise to the PDP governors and other opposition parties going for the forthcoming governorship election,if they don’t suppose Atiku to fight against this Evil electoral frauds the APC perpetrated,I don’t seeing any of them winning the forth coming governorship election, because what happened on the just concluded Presidential elections will be just an iceberg, earlier the best that they, all opposition parties should protects against it now,Atiku speech says it all,he is not fighting for himself but for what APC will perpetrate on the forthcoming governorship election,it’s rigging will be father of all rigging so let all fight against it earlier before the time. 34 Likes |

I thought they said they are generating 7500 mw but only distributing about 5000? From this figures they are only generating a little above 4600mw before the drop 39 Likes 1 Share |

We need to increase generation and improve transmission. And that cannot be done on bills less than 4000 on meter, 10000-20000 estimated. Let's be honest, the laws governing the establishment of the DISCOS force them to charge below the production price of power...meaning they cannot pay the GENCOS adequately and the GENCOS cannot pay enough for gas. And in my opinion, we need a sum far higher than our national budget to get to 24/7 electricity. Somewhere between $300-900bn. (Our reserve is $40bn.) Fashola said 5 years ago that 24/7 power was not rocket science. The man should by now see how severe the problem is. So either power bills go up ,or we take a loan, a hefty loan. Ghana has 24/7 light...because their power bills are higher than ours. Time we faced the reality. 8 Likes |

From my little observation, I believe Nigeria -before Buhari assumed office in 2015- was already at a point of explosion due to the heavy mismanagement of funds by almost all the past governments. It was just a matter of time before it exploded irrespective of who assumed the office, it was meant to happen. All Nigeria needs right now is a good manager, which Buhari is doing arguably fine. And it's understandable to see some people wanting to rise against the Buhari force. How do you expect a system built on corruption, one that knows nothing but corruption, how do u expect it to support the fight against corruption? Nigeria needs overall hauling and cleansing, a long term one. But I tell you, Buhari is our best deal right now. Buhari, a Nigerian ready to fight corruption(a quality Atiku and the other oldies lack), who has been in d game of politics for a very long time(a quality Sowore and the new guys in the game lack) 2 Likes |

Power generation keeps fluctuating like NEPA light that it is. With all the billions of dollars spent, no meaningful result. A population of almost 200 million people, battling with less than 5,000 megawatts. Hope the next level will put power as number one priority. 6 Likes |

sotall: Despite the loss, what is remaining is still more than what your party the PDP left after 16 wasted years and $16 billion squandered on power. Power generation has always been flunctuating as a result of varying indices like water level for hydro-power stations, gas availability for gas powered stations, sun intencity gor solar stations, e.t.c. So, power generation does not stay stand stlled. Prove me wrong with facts you wailer. |
