Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has rejected the declaration of Sokoto Governorship polls as inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging it to declare him the winner of the election in the state.

The election was declared inconclusive by INEC as the number of votes cancelled was much higher than the winning margin.
Tambuwal, who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was leading by 3,413, having scored 489,558 votes while Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 486,145 votes.

But the number of votes canceled from across 136 polling units in 22 local government areas was 75,403.

Addressing a press conference, Tambuwal said there was nothing like inconclusive election in the constitution.

“It is not founded in the constitution and there is a need for it to be tested in the court of law,” he said.

Tambuwal noted the need for the electoral body to reconsider its decision.

According to him, the constitution was explicit about the winner of the election, quoting section 179 (2) of the constitution.

“We will not allow anybody to subvert the mandate of our people. Every member of INEC has his name to protect,” he said.

Waste of time and effort. Why should you be declared winner with a slim margin of 3413 when over 75,000 valid voters have not cast their ballot? Better go and start preparing for the rerun and stop chasing shadows.

Better. You need to begin to fight for your rights now or never. I'm so glad you're a well-informed lawyer who knows what to do. Apc wants to use inconclusive elections to rig as they did in osun state. Winning isn't by force. I wonder why they didn't declare inconclusive elections nationwide during the recent presidential elections marred by violence.

Instead of preparing for rerun in the affected area. This has been a tradition and court has given it nod several times.

I'm PDP but it's a total waste of time!
But the likelihood of winning for him reduces because the results like Osun are already known! INEC is a fraud!

God! Manhood Yakubu!
This guy is a mess. He has allowed our democracy to be truncated. In sane climes, he ought to be prosecuted and possibly jailed.
Judiciary will be littered with inconclusive elections.Such has never happened in the history of the commission.
It's a shame ApC that all these happened under your watch-Buhari.
