The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has attributed his defeat at the poll to the suppression of votes in areas where he was strong.

Agbaje said this during an exclusive interview with The PUNCH shortly after the result of the governorship election was announced.

The PDP candidate also lamented the low voter turnout in Lagos State which was less than 20 per cent of the total number of persons that collected Permanent Voter Cards.

APC’s Adelabu Congratulates PDP Oyo Governor-elect Makinde

The Oyo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu has congratulated Engineer Seyi Makinde for winning the election.

The People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate scored 515, 621 votes to defeat Adelabu who polled 357,982 votes.

Makinde trounced Adelabu with wide margin of 157,639 votes.

Ortom Edges Towards Victory in Benue

Gov Samuel Ortom of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is edging towards victory with 317,730 votes from the results of the Governorship polls in 19 Local Government Areas of Benue.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the results were announced by different Collation Officers for the local government areas in Makurdi.

INEC Suspends Electoral Process in Rivers State

The Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended the electoral process in Rivers state for “widespread disruption of elections conducted on the 9th day of March 2019.”

The electoral body made this announcement this evening via a statement posted to their verified Twitter account, @inecnigeria.

Nigeria’s Pius Adesanmi Reportedly Dies in Ethiopian Airlines Plane Crash

Pius Adesanmi, popular Nigerian professor and columnist based in Canada, is reportedly one of the 157 people who lost their lives in the Ethiopian Airlines plane that crashed in the early hours of Sunday.

SaharaReporters reports that three different family members, plus a close friend of Adesanmi’s and a Canadian official, confirmed the sad development

The Ethiopian Airlines flight, a Boeing 737-8, between Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, crashed in the early hours of Sunday, killing 149 passengers and eight crew members aboard.
