Nigerian Civil Servants To Import Cars Duty Free by nickxtra(m): 1:15pm On Mar 14, 2019 |
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that civil servants can now import cars duty-free as part of the it’s move to cushion them through non-monetary incentives. This comes amid reports that Government is working on increasing sector-specific allowances for its workers beginning April. The duty-free scheme is covered by Statutory Instrument 52 of 2019 and will see those with 10 years in the service qualifying. Terms and conditions are: a vehicle to be imported should not exceed US$10 000, and a person is entitled to import one car within a period of five years. Apex Council, a body that represents civil servants in salary negotiations confirmed the latest development. “Government heeded the long standing Apex Council call for motor vehicle duty-free scheme covered by Statutory Instrument 52/2019 which will see all civil servants with 10 years of service being accorded a privilege to import a vehicle worth not more than US$10 000 duty free,” read the statement. “In fulfilment of the request made by Apex Council, Government is working on increasing the level of a sector-specific allowances for all categories of civil servants with effect from April. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2521047661257053&id=100000555311279 |

kellzkaycee: It's an insensitive move. Imagine if civil servants were to also import phones, tv, AC etc. Come on, what is obtainable in other sane climes is loans to buy cars. Why must we behave like cows? Why do civil servants now have to go into import business? Who buys the ones already imported ? We can't move forward with leaders with such primitive thinking. 2 Likes |

Re: Nigerian Civil Servants To Import Cars Duty Free by mekaboy(m): 3:27pm On Mar 14, 2019 |
mrvitalis: Abeg show me countries where civil servants import cars. Sensible government works out plans with car dealers to permit installments with little interest deducted from the salaries and not asking civil servants to go and become car dealers. We are backward, not just because of the poor reasoning of the leaders but the followers . Imagine the government trying to kill the business of car dealers with an insensitive policy . Civil servants don't import cars, government will finance a mortgage system of payment. Government buys cars from car dealers and civil servants pay installments, or government works out a system with car dealers, where government pays half the price of the car and the rest is paid in installments . Tomorrow one APC cabal member who is into importation of cars will be the only person importing cars for civil servants in Nigeria. Then another monopoly is introduced in the car business. This is what You get in a cabal driven government. I repeat it is a stupid policy. |

mekaboy: Show me a country where an average citizen pays an average of less then $100 tax in a full year We all know every Nigerian can buy car abroad since we dont produce here ...what government is doing is like removing 40% the total cost of cars for civil servants if thats not good enough then i dont know what else u what 2 Likes |

Re: Nigerian Civil Servants To Import Cars Duty Free by mekaboy(m): 3:43pm On Mar 14, 2019 |
mrvitalis: Why don't government remove the same for TV, AC, Generator so that civil servants can also import them duty free. It is not the duty of civil servants to import cars. Not all civil servants can afford cars, but most need generator, they should start from generator import then. It's a business killing venture. One APC member is about to be settled with the monopoly of importing cars for civil servants at the expense of other people's businesses. Either the reduce duty generally for imported cars or they work out an installment option for civil servants. After all if they reduce the duty, ordinary people can afford cars to go into transport, reducing unemployment in general. |
Re: Nigerian Civil Servants To Import Cars Duty Free by Nobody: 3:45pm On Mar 14, 2019 |
This is practically brainless... Purchase value of high end cars would be devalued to meet criteria, seek free duty and resold. or civil servants would start selling duty forms to car dealers in return for 30% cost of duty. The custom officers would clean out used civil servants names or deceased ones from theor system for re-use.. The idea is too porous for Nigeria. |

mrvitalis: You produce which one? Laptop, phone or gen? Which of them? Why not get civil servants to use innoson cars and keep our money in our country and grow production capacity? Imagine government encouraging imports. Senseless directionless government. |

Has the Nigerian system been dumbed down to such a level you all above cannot apply some critical reasoning to distinguish 'fke' news from 'real'? Is it on a facebook page that the Nigerian 'government' will annnounce such an initiative? Have you ever heard of an 'Apex Council' in relation to the Nigerian Civil Service? It does exist, but in Zimbabwe ... https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/03/14/civil-servants-who-have-served-10-years-can-now-import-one-car-duty-free/ Some mischevious 'neer-do-well' has strung all of you up and gloating at the result now. You all should know by now that there are many who don't mean well for our country. |
