What Do you Think About Suicide? Here's My Take. Mature Minds Please. by Martinez39: 7:32pm On Mar 14
Tell me your take in suicide after reading this. Here, I present my thoughts on suicide in a fictional interview format. NB : mature minds only.

you have been controversial lately with your take on suicide. I know how sensitive and serious this issue is. Though I am not saying people should kill themselves, I came with the argument that people have the right to kill themselves but it is wrong and selfish if they have children to take care of. If they don't have children to take care of, then it's their call. A lot asked me if it isn't selfish to kill yourself considering that you have parents, siblings and relatives who are attached to you and would be heartbroken. Well, I said that whether we consider it selfish or not, it doesn't really change the fact that people can do whatever they want with their life but is it selfish? Well, if you have kids to take care of and you commit suicide despite not being plague by a very miserable mental illness, then I would say that is selfish. You willingly brought people into this world and it's your responsibility to see that they are okay.

Besides, isn't wanting people to keep on living, regardless of what they want to do with their lives, just because you are happy to see them selfish in it's own way? Maybe.

Is suicide immoral and can we finally conclude that it is selfish? Well, I think people can do whatever they want with their lives and no one owes you their existence. It takes maturity to know that you won't have things always go the way you want and people's choices won't always be agreeable with you but they still reserve their rights to do what they want with their life and those rights should be respected.

What about the bond of love shared between the victim and loved ones, isn't it selfish and inhumane to disregard that and terminate it via suicide?
Well, it's rather unfortunate to lose a loved one but no matter the greatness and depth of the bond and attachment, the fact that people can do whatever they want with their lives and don't owe anyone their existence (except of course their young independent children) cannot be challenged. It's like saying that Femi Otedola is selfish and inhumane because he didn't pay the school fees of his brother's children. We know it would have been nice and kind for Otedola to lend a helping hand but it doesn't change the fact that Otedola doesn't owe his brother anything and he has done no wrong by refusing to help. Remember, no one asked to be born but if they asked to be born and they knew what they were getting into; there was an agreement between the parents and child to leave out his life till the end in exchange of being taken care of then suicide, in such case, is selfish but that never happens.

This is cold stuff.
The truth has no temperature.

Is suicide a cowardly act?
Well there is a reason why some soldiers run away from the battle field and that same reason is why suicide is not a cowardly act. The human body just like that other "higher" multicellular organism is wired to live and dread death. The conviction of impending death and grotesque trauma unfailingly forces the body to respond with immense dread and fright that compels the body to run away from such situations. The dread only stops once the dread is gone. No matter how many times one has attempted suicide or nearly died, the dread will always return if such situation presents itself again. In biology, it's called self-preservation. Of course, as higher animals with a very intelligent brain, our rationality and higher centres of the brain can override our impulses but it takes the brave to go through the process of suicide.

It's way much easier to drop the sniper insecticide and live another day than to drink it. It's way much easier to drop the gun than to blow your brain off. One who hasn't experienced being suicidal might say "no matter what, I can never kill myself. Suicide is for the weak" only for him/her to get a full grasp of the situation many years later through harsh life experiences. In fact many who said such in the past are currently under suicide watch; have committed suicide or are reaching out to specialist for help. It's indeed true that experience is the best teacher.

but suicide is against nature and only mentally ill people commit suicide. No right thinking person will? It's true that people with unbearable mental illness commit suicide to end their misery but perfectly sane people too can commit suicide. In fact they do. It is one of the natural responses to a situation the mind perceives as very very very miserable, shameful, hurtful etc. Personality, background and cultural norm may also play a role in suicide. Many years back, the news that a girl had lost her virginity could make her suicidal. The son of a poor man has no worry hawking bread on the street and they may even be happy at times but if Otedola's children suddenly find themselves in a pathetic financial situation tomorrow, they might be suicidal and eventually commit suicide if they are forced to hawk bread in the full glare of everyone. If such happens, the children of poor and unknown people who hawk bread might call them weak and soft but it takes experience to accurately see things from people's perspective. Perspective, people and background differ.

Is suicide a criminal offence? No. Your rights are not criminal offences. Suicide doesn't violate the rights of anyone or physically harm others so it cannot be a crime.

But it hurts the loved ones.
the hurt should be seen similarly to the hurt felt by muslim parents on hearing that their children have become atheists or the hurt that comes from social justice warriors when you say something that they don't like or say the wrong gender pronoun. In all cases, the hurt doesn't change the fact that people are free to do what they want with their lives and they don't owe you a damn.

bullies, trolls, insults, mockery or taunts, are they do be held responsible for suicides? Should people who do these things be held accountable when their victim commits suicide?
Well, it not nice to do these things and they do increase the likelihood of suicidal thoughts. However, with the exception of physical bullying, people have the right to troll, insult, mock and taunt you. One must learn that classmates, strangers online and offline, neighbours do not owe one anything not even nice words and nice treatments and you don't owe them that too. One must realise that people's bad remark don't define them or has the power to stop them from achieving what they want to achieve in life. Parents must teach their children these things as early as possible so they can stand in the real world. Adults who haven't learnt this must learn it as well.

Regardless of what people say, you are responsible for your actions. Learn to tell toxic people "fvck off" and stop seeking people's validation like a cocaine addict seeks cocaine. People are going to say what they want to say but you can do what you want to do.

what is your advice towards suicidal people as usual, the first step is to seek help from a professional. Go to a professional first if you can do that on your own before opening up to others. If you can't see a professional, open up to someone that knows a professional. I am against telling people your problem because to many, the tales of your problems are just satisfactions to their itchy ears and the basis of their next gossip. The flying spaghetti monster help you if who you tell your problems to is a hungry Nigerian blogger.

lastly what do you think causes suicide? many things. Do your research. You mouth odour is becoming unbearable please end this interview.

that was how a serious fight took place at TVC's news room

suicide is just a CHEAP/IMMATURE/COWARDLY/IGNORANT way out, while leaving you loved ones suffer (and pick up the pieces) for your gesture.

Didn't really answer the question on whether suicide was moral. Just danced around and said people had rights but didn't at all touch the main point of the question.
Re: What Do you Think About Suicide? Here's My Take. Mature Minds Please. by Chidorx60(m): 9:56pm On Mar 14
Suicide is a crime and the fact that its done to oneself doesn't make it less an offence to God and other men,

From the natural perspective, the fact that I choose to set my house ablaze doesn't mean it should be accepted by the society, just because its mine.

So also for suicide because it can affect the minds of others who might copy this remedy to deal with their life issues, leading to general havoc in the society, especially among youths.

From the Christian perspective, every person has a destiny to fufil and taking your own life is not fulfilling that destiny but putting Gods work to a standstill and his efforts to nought.

Thanks for pointing that out. Well, it depends. In some cases it is immoral while in some cases it's not.

You are free to set your house ablaze if you want to. It's okay as long as the inferno doesn't kill others or spread to other people's properties.

Killing yourself doesn't mean others will follow suit. Your life is as you make it, there is nothing like destiny or fate.

How do you set a house ablaze without control and expect it to be secluded to only your domain, that's the point of my illustration,

Suicide will spread, because alot of people are going through alot and seeing the path taking by others they simply would follow.

And out of ten suicidal victims at least four of them might be breadwinners and dearones causing a greater problem for the society.

Btw destiny and fate exist

THERE ARE SO MANY STARVING GIRLS THAT ARE YET TO EMBRACE PROSTITUTION.
THERE ARE SO MANY STARVING BOYS THAT ARE YET TO EMBRACE THUGGERY AND ARMED ROBBERY.
THERE'S NOTHING LIKE SUICIDE SPREADING.
EVEN IF IT SPREADS, IT'S BETTER FOR ONE TO TAKE HIS LIFE AND GO PEACEFULLY THAN TO EXIST SPREADING PAIN, DISEASES, AND MURDERING HIS FELLOW CITIZENS.

And out of ten suicidal victims at least four of them might be breadwinners and dearones causing a greater problem for the society.
DYING IS DYING TO ME, WHAT ABOUT VICTIMS OF MURDER AND TRAGEDIES THAT ARE BREADWINNERS?

Btw destiny and fate exist
THERE'S NOTHING LIKE DESTINY AND FATE. UNLESS YOU WANT TO TELL ME THAT THOSE LITTLE ONES WERE DESTINED TO DIE IN THE BUILDING THAT COLLAPSED YESTERDAY, THEN GO ON.

Suicide is taking a life you had no knowledge of how it was created.

It is not your life... Don't take it.

If you commit suicide,

You will ride the fastest jet in the spiritual realm to hell.

Simply fast and furious.

I never said set your house ablaze WITHOUT CONTROL. That would be analogous to kill others before killing yourself. grin

be witty,
No single house burns without affecting others,if it doesnt spread,
the poisonous CO gas emmitted from the flame will surely be inhaled by others.relate that to suicide.selah

CAPSLOCKED at least some starving boys and girls have not embraced crime but few,no many have,so thats my point the fact others will decline doesnt make the one who followds the remedy of suicide insignificant,

Many destinies have been lost to tragedy, but that can never outweigh the reality of a future.
But to say whether its always predestinated i cant say i have not yet been that enlightened to know.

A house can burn without affecting others depending on it's location and structure.

If I kill myself its my business, very stupid business, mind, but my business all the same. But it is a very ignorant thing to do, or an attempt to escape from shame or pain.

Imagine buda kills the self this very moment! buda would no more be part of the discussions on NL except when someone mentions buda, and they can say anything they want about buda and buda wouldn't be able to comment or correct them! Time will fly by and only once in a while would someone say, "ah, that buda" till eventually someone would say "who was buda?" then someone would say, "you don't know buda?" Then myths might grow up about buda claiming she is a man, he a girl, it is 12 who writes what most hardly understand and no one would know buda because buda killed itself. And what a waste!

just the thought of the world going on without me is enough to keep me alive. Imagine I died in 2018 and not see Buhari win a second term in 2019. Imagine I die by the end of this year and not see Trump de-trumped? Imagine the whole of UK has to be moved to Gambia in its attempt to leave Europe and I'm already dead and seen none of the debacle they made of it? But most of all, imagine when you all get sense and your eyes open and i'm already dead and not there to share the joy of the mass enlightenment that is on its way! Hope you see why I'd rather go for eternal life than waste my time on suicide!

Suicide is what you do when you are a waste of space and need to vacate it for more valuable people to occupy it. May that not be your portion. But if it is, then you need some 'Christ' loving, which for the sake of this, is Wisdom.

We should first establish that suicide is not illegal. It simply isn't

You cannot apprehend and/or prosecute someone who is dead. In fact, attempted suicide should not be illegal. There is no reason to judge people whose internal lives have become too difficult for them any more than one should judge a terminally ill individual who is in such a great deal of pain that medicine can offer no solution for them. Being in a suicidal state is absolutely horrible it makes no sense to judge people who are in such pain. Judgment makes people suicidal to begin with.

On the other hand, I believe that it is a natural impulse for all people to WANT to live. Dunno bout you buh I'm not ready to die yet tongue

Judgement does make people suicidal but with maturity I believe people should learn to tell toxic people to Bleep off.

grin Me too. The brexit affair is still yet to unfold and the 2020 US presidential election is still yet to come so I can't die now. Besides, I still have to see the outcome of the Barca vs Man Utd tie and learn some linear algebra. I just can't die now. I just can't. If I die, who will laugh at the SJWs. grin

I av been having suicidal thoughts since childhood and up till now, it's still d same...

I came from a poor home, I av strived all my life till now to break out of poverty but all monies i gathered were lost in good businesses that went bad.
I av lost all I had.

While growing up, I sought for help from different well to do individuals but all turned to their deaf ears, I actually see no reason to continue living again even with my current low income paying and promotion barred job as bsc holder .

My childhood friends who I always had in mind when we were young by giving him money at my level, is controlling good money now, I narrated my ordeals to them, it went unattended to, so many friends have forsaken me(which I never had in mind not to help dem if I made it in life), same with some close elderly ones.. So this really shows no one cares..

Why should my life continue in pain, I don't know what d future holds, but it may seem same with wat I av been experiencing, I don't want to bring children into dis world without me properly catering for them, Its better d pain ends with me than to spread it to my next generation.

I no the country is hard, my parents have fault, our government are not helping same with my Christian leaders..

If anyone has a vital and not jus vague advice, I will appreciate.
