Do I Really Need To Get A New Transmission To Solve This by magikalz(m): 10:06am On Mar 18, 2019
Recently, I was traveling from Owerri to Lagos with a 2009 Camry Muscle V6. At around Delta, the car started smoking and i noticed it wasn't throttling dowm again.

i managed it for a while till i got to a town where i got a mechanic to check it. He said the gear oil was low so the tramsmission was vomitting oil on the hot emgine causing smoke.

The recommemded oil was not available so we cleaned and topped it with ABRO ATF and i moved.

The gear was shifting smoothly till i got to Okada in Edo State. The smoking started again and gears wasnt changing. i parked and got mechanic again.

Same problem - gear oil was bad. Recommended oil wasnt available. We had to flush the transmission completely and use Dextron III so i could continue my journey.

I drove to Lagos without further trouble but some days later as i was going home, I noticed the car wasnt speeding no matter how much I throttled.

The gear wasnt changing and my car was crawling. Could barely climb a small slope on the road. It had to be pushed to a safe spot for the night.

The next morning, I drove it home without issues then called a mechanic. The guy says I have to buy a new transmission. I really no dey buoyant now.

Please any suggestions on what to do? The car is parked right now but moves well. I suspect the problem might be solved if I use the right oil - WS.

What colour of smoke to start with. Topping up oil, opening of transmission drain pan was all done while transmission was hot. Your transmission is a u660E. Abro oil was used in place of Toyota WS for a 6sp transmission. All I can say now is keep your fingers crossed and ensure you pray and fast though not as long as Jesus did

You can top up with dex III temporarily and flush with WS ASAP, but you problem is still not fixed.

Why the car dey vomit. Of you put WS in there it will vomit again so fix that and flush with WS but fill drive for 30 minutes drain and fill at least 3 times.

Your mechanic who worked on it the last time forgot to tighten a hose

I know a guy in Lagos that repairs Honda transmission , don't know if he does Toyota though. In as much as the gear is still moving and not completely burnt. As in reverse works and the car moves but stops when transmission gets hot, this guy will fix it.

I had same experience as urs with Acura TL, just about 2 months after u bought it. Was on way to abeokuta and started seeing smoke come out from the drives front tire, I was on high speed and because my stereo was in high volume I didn't see that car was revving more than it should. I checked tac and it was on 5,000 rpm, yeepa. I parked beside the road, opened bonnet see smoke. Atf has splashed everywhere. Called a mechanic and after 2 hours he came , by then tranny had cooled down. Then we discovered the atf got bolied and squurtted out of the breathing pipe. We checked stf level and it was not too low so we drive the car like that into sbeokyta, car shifted fine. At abeokuta I bought 1 quart of ATF dw1 and topped it. That night I drove back to Lagos, no problem. On getting to Lagos I discovered the atf was smelling, not a burnt smell but one rotten odor like that. So I did a 3x3 flush of the atf with recommended oil.

Car worked fine for like 3 weeks and then it started the big wahala. I was traveling and still within Lagos the car would stop moving on it's own. But if I turn off engine and restart it will be fine, get into traffic and it would stop moving, the thing was repeating and got to a stage it started jerking. Come see as cars behind me dey curse me whenever I stop in the middle of the road because car no gree move until I switch off and restart. I managed it like that back home and in my mind I was like wow this transmission is toast, by the way the D light was never blinking.

Cut long story short, it got worst but I was introduced to a guy who assured me he would fix it, I was already thinking of buying another tranny. The guy took the guy, dropped the engine and tranny and I don't know what he did to it oh, but it's been more than 6 months now and car drives perfect, shifts smoothly without any problem. And the funny thing is someone else that bought a tokunbo Acura TL had same issue as mine right from the port. I gave him the mechanics number and he fixed it and till now car works fine. So yes there are some people that fix transmission but it depends on the level of damage the transmission have.

I actually topped it with Dextron III today and it moved very well. Will start flushing when the WS arrives.

He's doesn't have formal education but has a lot of experience on this trannies. I've seen him fix at least 4 transmissions that owners had been told to get replacements.

On a second thought, does ur d light blink when ur transmission stalls because if it does it might just be an electrical problem. First thing is get the powertrain scanned.

He does not have formal education but apparently knows how to fix a transmission, why can't those who had education understand how it works?

It’s simply called ‘Specialization’ brother.

Man must try to never be a jack of all trades lest he never excels to his full potential in any one of them
