If we are not at least 5 points ahead with 8 games to go(and having already met most of the Top 6 clubs), I'll give up on our winning it because if we get dragged into a neck to neck race like last season, I can't trust our boys yet not to find a way to mess it up.
But maybe if there is already a CC in the bag and the "no silverware" monkey off their backs, then they can really settle and show their quality, one can only hope. To be honest, I'm not too particular about the PL this season, it would be a nice bonus but they must just win something this season.

Lol, trust even if we win the CC, people will still say 'its only the CC',

I am very particular about the premiership. I am particular because I think this may be our real last chance for some time to come. I don't expect Chelsea to be this weak come next season, same with United. We actually really DO have a chance. But AW needs to understand how to use his players. Players should not be made to believe they will play anytime they are fit.
With due respect to Kos, I think Djorou should have played today. What has he done wrong to be benched simply because Kos returned from suspension?

MC29 should also be benched for the odd games. He's played a lot of games this season, I don't expect to see him in the midweek game. Bendtner should show us he is not just all mouth. RVP10 should also be given a chance.

This is one thing SAF does very well with his players. He keeps them hungry on the bench so when they come on, even the not too good ones flatter to deceive ala Obertan.

Arshavin is a great player on his day, but its obvious he sometimes needs motivation to show his stuff. That motivation may be one or two games on the bench

More painful is the fact that Chelsea will drop points against Birmingham. We could have been top now
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by duduspace(m): 5:58pm On Nov 20, 2010
Chelsea lost so only Manure profit this weekend. Interesting, that must be the first time Chelsea have lost back to back in the PL in ages.

Why do you think its our last real chance for a while? Chelsea needs to spend a lot more to get to the levels they were in the Mourinho era, they had been on a downward slope since last season and shld count themselves lucky for their last Hurrah last season, also Abramovic seems to have thrown the keys to his safe away. Manure's recent signings have been underwhelming and will not improve them IMO, the clear and present danger I see going forwards is City.
We are still one of the best placed going forwards, but it has just been so long since we won last, that needs to be changed and yu're right that we have a very good chance this season but why does it seem the boys are more interested in throwing it away than winning it?  undecided

Gone are the days when Arsenal won the North London derby just by showing up.
At least the last two results in the league between the sides tell me that. . .
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by HNIC(m): 6:45pm On Nov 20, 2010
Not able to watch the match
Had to be somewhere to earn my 'bread and butter' grin
However, I followed the match via LIVE SCORES
As soon as I refreshed on my phone and saw Bale had pulled one back
Something told me we were gonna lose.
Just going through the highlights now and wondering what was Cesc thinking by punching the ball
Remember he got away with it against Liverpool at home, last season, in the last minute.
Dude should never be part of the wall again please.
I will try and watch the full match later on
BUT. . . . come on , . . . . . Winning the league is impossible with this Jekyll and Hyde performances.

Duduspace writes rubbish with so much swagger

Our signings have been underwhelming and yet we are ahead of arsenal on d table.

What bullchit did he say about Chelsea?

Why not fixate on ur woeful team and stop pickin on other teams that have shown to be better, more focused and well oiled than your bland good for nothing assemblage of rats u call team

When you lose the fifth game of the season at home, ill remind you of your standing on the table

As it is, a not too vintage UTD are better than your supposedly fantastic team- so sayeth the table

Answer my question,
Will Arsenal finish above United,at this rate?
Find my signings underwhelming for all you like. You have no team.Instead of worrying about how frail your side is,mentally and physically, you're running to the Man United thread at the slightest opportunity to disgrace yourself with your one-way reasoning.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory makes it interesting indeed. . . grin grin grin
Last week you were crowing like a sexless chicken because you went second. Now you want to remind me where we stand like you weren't aware same time last week.
The slightest opportunity to take a foothold on the table, your "quality " side goofed like amateurs. And you have the nerve to criticize another team who have managed to stay unbeaten despite not playing well .
This your voyeurism is actually becoming a pain to deal with.

Well, I still think Chelsea will continue to challenge season in season out unless a major catatrophe happens. This season, they only have problems with their bench which can easily be fixed with 20 million pounds (money they can afford to spend). In the end, the Terrys, Lampards, Essiens, will still be in the team. They only need to add to this i.e. if they don't do that come January 2011.

As for ManU, yes their signings have been dodgy but the fact is they are still spending money which means they can still get in more quality players.

However for Arsenal, we know that as long as AW is coach and there's no major policy change then these are the players we will see for a few years to come in addition to others coming in from the youth squad. What is worse is we may even lose players like Cesc, Arshavin and RVP and ofcourse they will be substituted with Ramsey, JET, Lansbury, etc. Now not that our players are not quality, they just switch on and off at random. So for Arsenal, I don't see anything changing in coming years.

The basic problem I think is that we lack the mentality of a winning side, thats the truth. We need Vieira/Henry to come beat it in these guys ears what it is to play for Arsenal. We saw some of it when Sol played for us last season even though physically he was past it. Cesc wouldn't dare be playing for Barca and contemplate losing to Madrid.

The only two players I have seen play with any form of hunger in our current squad is TV and Nasri. The rest just play to justify their pay and even at that, they don't do enough.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by proudly9ja(m): 7:16pm On Nov 20, 2010
This season has been crazy for all teams but while we can say its a one off for ManU and Chelsea, for Arsenal we can't say the same. Its the usual story of losing matches when it matters most.

AW needs to learn the skills of how to keep his players on their toes. All the talk of 'my boys have now become men', ' we have matured', etc he should keep in his pocket and let the boys show it on the field.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by allboyz(m): 7:17pm On Nov 20, 2010
i sincerely belive we lost concentration at the start of the 2nd half. . .Sagna made some sch boy mistakes there and FAB4 was completely out of it in the 2nd half. . .why rest Rozzi. . . we are far too dependent on FAB4. . if he's tired. . AW always have Rozzi who is ALWAYS EVER HUNGRY TO GIVE HIS ALL!!!!. .  .Besides, MC29 should rest abeg.  .see him see goal. . him dey look back. .  .B52 has been crying. . .let him and RVP10 play the next 2 games for us and MC29 shud learn more from the bench. . . hey, MC29 has tried his own qouta. . .!!

I still don't agree that anything has changed about the EPL. The usual suspects will still be top 3 and some will fight for 4th position.
Watch out next half of the season and see how the teams will be seived. What happened to West Brom, Blackpool? Everton was once bottom team, same with Liverpool but I think I can confidently say both teams will still end up between 4th and 10th, same with Blackburn, Villa and Bolton.

The only thing that changed with the EPL this season is the top 3 teams (Arsenal, Chelsea and ManU) going down one notch. But I expect things to change come January

Are you sure 20m will fix that chelsea team? considering they bought Ramires for 18m or so? I agree they are still strong and are still the team to beat when their first 11 is fit, but competing on all fronts is already becoming burdensome for them methinks. Lets wait for when the FA cup starts.

proudly9ja:

Their recent signings suggests to me there is a policy change going on at Manure, It will be confirmed in the January window I guess. They were rumored to have already put in a bid for Bale in the summer which Tottnumb rejected. The Manure I knew in the past usually got their man, lets see what they do in January.

proudly9ja:

This exactly is the source of our strength, we have reputable young and upcoming players and our academy continues to attract the cream of young players, I still believe this team just needs to win something to set them on the right track, I think once you get that feeling of winning it just stays with you and then becomes a standard for you.

proudly9ja:

I think even Arsene sees that which is why he has continued to bring the old players back so that they can pass something on to these guys but I think there is nothing that will beat it into their heads more than them winning something first of all themselves. Even in his purchases, Arsene tries to buy players who have won things. Chamakh with Bordeaux, Squillaci with Sevilla etc. They just need to turn the corner, this team has quality.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by Specialist900(m): 7:55pm On Nov 20, 2010
MC29 has to be direct on goal, he should leave fore play for the midfielders to do. for God sake he is an attacker.

My point is, if Chelsea can still spend 18million on Ramires, then it means they are still capable of spending money. And remember its back up players they need. Even you will agree their first team is good enough.

I agree with you that we have players coming in. The problem I have that there is nothing wrong with the SQUAD we have now quality wise yet we still mess up in games like this so why should there be a change when the new guys come in? Quality wise, they may be adding nothing.

I also agree that MAYBE we just need to win something, but thats a big maybe. Like I said, key is being able to talk sense into the players heads. Look at United, they have won trophies yet you will hardly find any of their players strolling on the field and if he does it in one match, he dares not try it in the next match i.e. if he gets to play.

And its not just about bringing in a player who has won something, its about binging in players who WANT to win something with Arsenal. Again I maintain, a lot of it is down to the manager and how he handles the team. How many gaffes and seasons did it take for AW to bench Almunia? Even at that, he is not bold enough to tell us he benched him for a better GK, rather he's telling us Almunia's injured. I heard he'l be back in training next week. Let's see if AW puts him in goal.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by debosky(m): 8:05pm On Nov 20, 2010
Who is blaming Chamakh today? He scored, the defence messed up, particularly in conceding cheap set pieces close to the box.

More importantly, at 2-2 if Koscielny scored then things would've been different. . . .not even going to go into the debate about what happened today, I hope the team erase all memories of this in the next game. Two home losses on the trot is not good form at all.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by Specialist900(m): 8:18pm On Nov 20, 2010
he tried(chamark), but should have killed the game off when two clear chances came his way.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by folahann(m): 8:46pm On Nov 20, 2010
abeg abeg abeg make we just focus on winning that prestigious Carling cup this season. At least people won't say we didn't win anything for 5years (or is it 6; i've even lost count self). Losing 3 home games in 1st half of the season is not a way of a tittle contender f.u.ck

If you can blame Kos (a defender) for not scoring at 2-2, why not blame Chamakh (a striker) for not scoring oreven attempting to score two possible one on ones with the GK?

Anyways, thank God say Chelsea lost too. Cushions the effect but we can't know how much till end of season.
