State Chairman of NLC Comrade Onuh Edoka made the call in a telephone conversation with Daily Independent Monday in Lokoja.

He said that relevant government officials have been dogging the union just as no official statement has been issued as regards to the payment of salaries.
He lamented that the workers in Kogi state have been pauperised and reduced to beggars as they could no longer have access to loans from banks and individuals.

Edoka urged the president to without delay direct the governor Yahaya Bello to commence the payment of salary arrears running into seven months bemoaned the lackluster attitude of state government to the payment of workers salaries.

The Labour leader explained that the relevant government officials responsible for payment of salaries have remained inaccessible.

He therefore advised workers to remain calm and await the next line of action, adding that the Congress will soon make its stand known on the matter.

Some workers who spoke on anonymous alleged that the state government has vowed not to pay salaries due to negative roles they played during the just concluded general elections.

According to them, some of the workers refused to participate in the rigging exercise during the Presidential and National Assembly elections which led to the victory of Senator Dino Melaye in Kogi West senatorial district.

The aggrieved workers urged their leaders to ask government to pay salaries or face the wrath of the hungry and angry civil servants.
