“The North is more politically aware than the South” “The North are more united when it comes to politics” You see those quotes up there? Stop it. It is actually a daft statement to make. On the surface, they sound like the ultimate truth, but in reality it actually conveys a certain type of backwardness that is almost incurable. My apologies if you come from the core North, but you would agree with me that is the only conclusion you arrive at after critical reasoning. Of what use is grabbing power when decade after decade, you have more people out of school? Of what use is grabbing power when year after year, your region is the poverty capital, within the nation that is the poverty capital of the world? Of what use is grabbing power, when year after year, you post abysmal health indices that pull down the national average? Yes, on average, Nigeria is desolate. Nigeria is a crying shame. But if you are a student of mathematics who understands the law of averages, you understand that the indices in the North have to be spectacularly abysmal for Nigeria to keep occupying the bottom, considering how many years ahead the South is. Truth is, if the core North and the South were to stand alone as nations, you find out the South May post much higher averages while the North approaches nearer the bottom than Nigeria as a whole is currently doing. Yes, the North is more united, but it takes a unique type of simplicity and illiteracy to be united, especially when such unity was, is, and will likely be against long term personal and collective interest. I will end this with a quote from an author whose name does not readily come to mind; “Education makes a people easy to lead, but difficult to deceive, easy to drive, but difficult to enslave” Solve the problem of illiteracy in the North, and you have unlocked the key to the region’s greatness, and you realise unity without purpose is more a curse than a blessing. 4 Likes |
