I'm open to suggestions and corrections, thank you! EPISODE ONE. In the street of AJEROMI somewhere in LAGOS, there was a boy known for his intelligence, sharpness and handsomeness. He has this charisma which makes every girls around want to talk to him even when it doesn't seem necessary. This was a worry for him because he was the shy type and doesn't feel comfortable around girls. His name, OLORUNGBEBE (God answers the plea of his creation). A typical yoruba man may say i got the meaning wrong, i accept it as my bad. GBEBE was the last child of his family having a brother and a sister who were SICKLERS. But GBEBE was not, lucky for him people say. Their parents whose genotype (AS & AS) is not compatible said they couldn't bear not being together after so many years of dating in the college prior to their geno. But the result of the decision they made created a hard and pitiful situation in the family. GBEBE'S father was a businessman, he was a cement dealer in ALABA INTERNATIONAL MARKET [Lagos] and he also has a 11,000 liters size of tanker in front of his shop that he was using to sell kerosene. his mother was a trader of all type of goods in a small market in the next street where she sells variety of food stuffs, tomatoes, spices and all kinds of vegetables. Imagine a situation where there are two SICKLERS in a family added to the expensive standard of living of the EXCELLENT state. Life was a bit challenging but young GBEBE seem not to be disturbed as he is always at his friends place after school and during the weekend. His school was not so far from their abode, but the river which they cross [With canoe] everyday when going and returning from school was big enough to scare a boy of his age, the river was darkish, smelly and voluminous. The riverbank was a base for food vendors, butchers and people selling okrika [Fairly-Used clothes and shoes for both young and adults], some old and young fishermen have their Huts constructed at the offshore of the river, it was a busy place throughout the day and at early hours of the night. GBEBE used to wait for mama samuel whose daughter was in nursery at his school to bring him home, she was living in the face-me-i-face-you in front of their rented 3 bedroom flat, his mum always leave his afternoon food with mama samuel because his older ones, SHOLADE and BOLATITO used to leave home in the morning and return in the evening just like their parents, they both work as sales person and as teacher in a primary school respectively at the neighboring streets. GBEBE is either at mama samuel's house playing with other boys or at 5 to 6 blocks [Houses] away from their house to play with some of his friends at the Arabic School [ILEKEWU] close to the central mosque [Masjid] in their street. All his friends parents would allow GBEBE stay a month with them if he wants, he was indeed charming! One morning, some minutes past 6am GBEBE had a fearful and terrible dream. The dream was a bit spiteful that even young GBEBE was crying when he woke up from his sleep, he could not even comprehend the meaning of his dream as it was beyond his wits. He went directly to their parents bedroom, his mother who was in the dinning dishing food at the time was surprised to see his little boy with an unusual attitude because the parents made it a culture for their children to always pay his/her greetings to them every morning before anything else. They believe it's a blessing. The boy went directly to his father to narrate the dream to his father. And his parents had known his dream to always come to pass, always. Except for this dream he had which was scary and mysterious, all his dreams has been good and auspicious... After GBEBE narrated the dream to his father, his father with a fearful look on his face asked him; "OLORUNGBEBE do you really had this dream?" He gave a nod as "Yes". Then his father said to him; "whenever you have this kind of dream, let nothing stop you from praying and asking God for protection over you, your family and those you love dearly. Go and prepare for school and tell your mother to see me" GBEBE'S mother entered the bedroom and saw her husband laid on the bed, his potbelly rising and falling like a pregnant woman in the labour room who is responding to the chorus; PUSH! PUSH! PUSH! "Ekaro sir [Good morning sir], GBEBE told me you said i should come." "He's had another dream."_Mr HAMZA [GBEBE'S father] said sitting up from his lying position. "Another dream? _ Mrs Hamza [GBEBE'S mother] Asked dropping the hand towel she was holding on the bare marbled floor of their bedroom, with a slow movement she sat at the end of the bed. "Is it bad? _ MrsHamza. "It's scary ajoke" _Mr HAMZA. NOTE; Ajoke is Mrs Hamza mid-name. The father told the mother about the dream. In the dream, GBEBE was walking along with his father who held one of his hands very tight because they were walking in the dark, it was silent, birds cried out loud mysteriously, the sky was strangely dark with no single star to illuminate the night, there was a strange sound of dogs crying like a new born baby, strange sounds coming from the wind that was blowing like a cry of humans from torture. It was scary and they do not have a particular destination to which they journey. Suddenly, they heard a gunshot. "Father where is that coming from?" Asked GBEBE, but no response from his father, he turned around to ask again and that was when he discovered his father had been shot, groaning in pain while lying on the ground.. He quickly ran to his father who was in a pool of blood in an attempt to help him stand, but his father disappeared like a smoke escaped to the atmosphere before he could get to him. "Father! Father!" The boy shouted from his sleep until he woke up. "Ehn, this is very bad o and i'm scared". Said GBEBE's mother after listening to the narration from the father. "As you can see it's a scary one, but let us pray" Said GBEBE's father. They prayed and they told the boy not to say a word about the dream to anybody.. They all went to their respective places of work, GBEBE left for mama samuel's house after his breakfast around 7:15am and waited for mama samuel to get her daughter [Bidemi] ready before they left for their school with mama samuel at 7:30am sharp. Life went on as usual in the family. ALTHOUGH THE WORLD IS NOT AS BEAUTIFUL AS IT LOOKED, BUT IT WORTH LIVING. It was another beautiful morning. The sky was cloudy, the wind blew fresh and cold air like it was going to rain, and NEPA restored the power after several days of blackout. Up NEPA!!! It was a sunday morning. Everyone was around, none of the parents and GBEBE'S older ones go to work on Sundays. GBEBE helped his father with the sanitation at the drainage in front of their house. The house is 3 bedroom flat, there is another 3 bedroom flat at one side and an uncompleted two storey building at the other side, both neighboring building were fenced, Mr HAMZA's flat shared the fences from both sides leaving the back and front opened. Mrs HAMZA and BOLATITO were preparing moi-moi in the kitchen and SHOLADE was still sleeping, he complained of aches and pains all over his body the night before. The day went on, it was as special as every other Sundays, GBEBE spent the whole of the day at his friend's place after his breakfast. The day passed on. The following day which was a monday, the parents were set for their various work place, GBEBE has been set for school. BOLATITO (GBEBE'S sister) who realised she has not seen SHOLADE (GBEBE's brother) that morning call to the attention of their mother... "Mummy i have not seen LADE this morning" "Ohh really, go and wake him up jare, what kind of sleep is he sleeping by this time of the day" TITO barge into the boys room like a soldier who visit his debtor unnoticed. "LADE! LADE!" TITO called but no answer, she went closer to him, shook him but still no response. "Mummy! Mummy! The girl shouted, the parents ran into the room. "What happened to him?" They both asked. "I dont know o" TITO replied while crying. LADE WAS LYING ON HIS BED LIKE A CORPSE WAITING FOR IT'S TURN TO BE BATH AFTER ARRIVING THE MORGUE. But his heart was still beating. Mr HAMZA carried him on his shoulder, SHOLADE'S hands and head were dangling and dancing to the body movements of Mr Hamza like a lifeless chicken hanging on a stick after been roasted, they stopped a tricycle just in front of their house and Immediately they rushed him to the hospital. He was taken directly to his bed (Because of is ill health he often visit the hospital which was the family hospital and he has his space). The doctor quickly attended to him. The doctor came out an hour after carrying out some checking and tests on him. "Mr HAMZA, please see me in my office" _Doctor. "What is it, what is it o!" The mother begin to wail, her disfigured plated hair carrying his two hands like a player that lost a golden chance during the 90th minutes of a cup Final, her hands slapping her thighs and her bare foots hitting the tiled floor of the hospital sympathetically.. The father met the doctor. The mother was crying and praying. WHAT HAS HAPPENED? WHAT DID THE DOCTOR TOLD MR HAMZA? Watch Out For The Next EPISODE. Poor gbebe and his sorry mother. EPISODE Two Mr Hamza stepped out of the doctor's office with a shabby look on his face, he bit his lower lip and shook is head in sadness. "Lade's father what is it? What has happened to my son? What has happened to my son oo?!! _Mrs Hamza said in a trembling voice, and her eyes saturated with tears. "Hey woman save me some peace, nothing has happened to your son. TITO, GBEBE go stay with your brother your mother and I will quickly go home and return shortly" said Mr Hamza They arrived home. "Lade's father you haven't said anything since we left the hospital, what is going on don't keep me in darkness" _Mrs Hamza. <Mr HAMZA breathes audibly>... "The doctor told me LADE won't go beyond 24hours" "Ehn! God forbid. _Mrs Hamza dissent in a trembled voice of despair and repressed sadness. "Calm down and let me finish woman . The doctor said previous test he carried on him showed that his bones were stronger, his blood circulates almost like a normal patient. But the test he did now shows that his Red blood cells has been badly affected [Too much presence of haemoglobin substance in his body system] which has made his blood thin and has reduced the blood flow in his body and has damaged some of his organs. "Ehn! Ahh modaran [I'm doomed] oo!" Mrs Hamza flung herself down the bare concrete floor of their room and wailed helplessly. Mr HAMZA walked towards his wife to console her, she held her husband and wept; "Can't you save my son? Is LADE going to die?" Tears rolled down the cheek of Mr HAMZA, he felt pity for his wife and his dying son but there is nothing he could do. The parents left the house and decided to meet with some of their friends and families to tell them the situation they had found their first child. Mrs Hamza lost her parents in a motor accident before she met her husband, she has a older sister who was staying in another state [Oyo State]. Mr Hamza was the only child of his parents, his father died few months after the birth of SHOLADE, his aged mother was living in OGUN State. Mr HAMZA called his mother on phone and unfold everything that was going on to her "All this is going on and you didn't inform me, what is my offense to you HAMZA? You didn't bring them to me to Visit and you still kept this kind of thing away from me.. Ehn?" _The old woman sounds bitter and emotional. Mr HAMZA kept his distance from his mother since she decided to leave ISLAM for OSUN Worship [OSUN is a river goddess, a mermaid and a female spirit that lives and operates from the water, river and sea alike]. It's origin is from OSOGBO, OSUN State where they perform an annual ritual and celebration which involves masquerading and other social and traditional activities for the river goddess. Mr HAMZA tried all he could to convince his mother to return to her former religion but the old woman was unyielding, Mr HAMZA has since then stopped his children from visiting her. "Maami [Mum] i stopped my children from visiting you for a reason that is known to both of us. And about SHOLADE he was fine two days ago, all this happened just yesterday and the doctor said there is nothing they can do to save him" _Mr HAMZA said in a weak voice. "They can't save him but OSUN Shengeshe will save him, you and your wife should come here unfailingly now so that you can return to lagos before it get dark, i will give you OSUN water and some other things to apply to his body, i will not cry over anyone of you". It was about 7 hours to and fro from Lagos to the place the woman was living in OGUN State. "Oda [Okay] ma, we will be on our way now" _Mr HAMZA. It is said that when life turns ugly and difficult, you find it hard to control your thoughts, you wouldn't know which bridge to cross and which one to burn.. NIGHT WAS CREEPING GRADUALLY AS THE SUN RECEDED FAR INTO THE HORIZON. Having left the hospital in the morning and after returning from OGUN State where they visit Mr Hamza's mother for some concocted oil and Water [OSUN Water], they also met some of their friends and some extended family members in lagos. they returned late to the hospital with one of their families and a family-like friend after going from one place to another with the hope they could find help, But HEAVEN CAN ONLY WAIT! BOLATITO and OLORUNGBEBE had dossed off when they returned to the hospital. TITO was sitting on a plastic chair close to the bed LADE was lying, with her head resting on the wall just beneath the blood bag hanging on the light iron that supports the hospital bed. GBEBE was lying her stomach on the cold tiled floor of the hospital. GBEBE! TITO! oya wake up. They decided to diclose to the children what was going on with LADE. After hearing everything, TITO went emotional, GBEBE who has not fully recovered from his sleep couldn't capture the whole statement but he was old enough [12years old] to know something wasn't right. Tears filled his eyes and started streaming down his face uncontrollably. They applied the concocted oil to LADE'S body and they sprayed the OSUN water all over him as instructed by Mr Hamza's mother while he was still lying unconscious. The room was tense and silent. The night passed, it was around 5am the following morning. Everyone has slept except the mother who was fanning away mosquitoes from GBEBE and TITO who were sleeping next to each other on the bare tiled floor. Mr Hamza was sleeping in the hospital reception with one of their sympathizers because the hospital room couldn't contain them. just for some seconds she noticed LADE wasn't Breathing again. "Nurse! Doctor! !" _Mrs Hamza shouted. Everyone woke up, Mr HAMZA and the other man rushed to the room. "What happened to him" _Mr HAMZA asked in a trembled voice. "Mio mo o [I don't know o] help me check him, my child has stopped breathing, my child has stopped breathing." _The woman wailed in a tearful voice. Two nurse Nurse entered. Nurse 1; "Please everyone should leave the room" They all left the room. The nurses came out shortly after... And they announced the death of LADE, the mother fainted immediately after hearing the news. But the strange thing that happened was when LADE'S spirit arose from the bed on which the body lies. His spirit started running zigzag and violently like a RAT that spotted a MOTHER CAT that just fed her kittens.. It'd be a race of LIFE! An old security man at the hospital known to be a spiritualist of a sudden, saw a shirtless boy, wrapped on his waist a white attire.. That was LADE'S spirit, his mother wrapped him up with her scalf after changing his pant the night before he passed. His spirit was approaching the main entrance of the hospital. The man ran after LADE'S spirit shouting "Stop! Stop!", but the spirit kept running, just the when the spirit noticed someone was chasing him he stopped, turned to the security man. The man fainted the moment he had a eye contact with the spirit... He woke up few minutes later, the spirit was long gone. The man understood what has happened having heard stories related to such. The man asked to see the people of the boy who died that morning, he narrated everything that happened between him and LADE'S spirit. He said what happened means the boy death was not ordinary and that the boy has gone to continue his life somewhere they can never see him again. [What the yoruba's called AKU DA'AYA]. A year and few months after, the family had moved on well. The parents thought the dream GBEBE had the other night was attached to the death of LADE. Life goes on like normal, but not like what it was. Mr HAMZA had just resumed as a driver in one beverages company after his business went bankrupt, aftermath the tragic occurrence of LADE. Sholade was just 17 when he died. Mrs Hamza still manage at the market, but only selling Vegetables, pepper and garri. One night, GBEBE had the same dream he had which the parents thought has came to pass after the death of LADE.. IS SOMEONE ELSE GOING TO DIE? IS GBEBE HIMSELF THE DEMON OR JUST AN HARBINGER OF DEATH? The parents thought between themselves after the boy narrated to them the dream, the second time. TO BE CONTINUED.. 1 Like |

EPISODE THREE. After GBEBE narrated the dream to them the second time, they had to tell some of their friends. Some took them to clerics who asked them to pray, fast. But a close friend of the mother took them to a NATIVE DOCTOR. "My people the Oracle has revealed the cause of your coming long before you came, leave any amount in the calabash" NATIVE DOCTOR Mr HAMZA did what the man asked. The old man chanted some incantations and continued "What your child saw in his dream is real and what is to be, but since you came here, the Oracle will help you" "Baba that is the main reason we are here o, please help us baba" Said GBEBE'S mother who was laden with emotions. The NATIVE DOCTOR gave Mr HAMZA a ring which he said will protect him from death. He told him to always put on the ring in any of his fingers. Peace, joy and normalcy returns to the family, it was a year and a half since LADE'S death, GBEBE was in Jss2, thanks to his brilliancy, his teacher through the office of the proprietor of his school sent a letter to GBEBE'S parent urging them to allow the boy write his Junior WAEC in JSS2.. ********* GBEBE was in Senior Secondary School, it came with no surprise when he decided to go to Science Class. The whole thing changed, the boy was taller and known to be the talk of every girls in school, he is always neat and dress moderately, he was just close to 14 and he's already gotten a crush. One good thing every student will always miss about high school, you don't need to spend too much or turn yourself to a body guard to win any girls heart, just a eye contact is enough, except you are not brilliant or handsome. Who is this girl GBEBE is crushing on? Her name is Maria, her father was a custom boss, no debate they are rich! Just like GBEBE, Maria also wrote her junior waec in jss2, she was brilliant and beautifully endowed. She likes GBEBE too even though they never shared the same idea in class, they always counter each other in an interactive class or debate. One night, Mr HAMZA complained of minor headache, the following morning he was rushed to the hospital. His condition became worse that Mrs Hamza had to go back to the NATIVE DOCTOR, the old man told her to Remove The ring on Mr HAMZA, the Native DOCTOR told her that is the only way to save him the pain that he can't Escape the impending death that awaits him. The woman rushed back to the hospital, but Mr HAMZA had already given up the ghost. No calamity can be compared to when a family lost it's bread winner. It was a hard blow to the family, the whole world seems silent, nobody could console Mrs HAMZA, not when she lost her first child barely two years. The relatives and some friends who promised to help them keeps promising and the promises remained in a promissory note. Life was more difficult with the family burden all on the mother. TITO never Stopped Taking her drugs and She Could not do much to help their mother in the Market due to her Condition... Mrs HAMZA decided to relocate with her children to Oyo State to stay with her older sister, One of the teacher in GBEBE'S school after hearing this, knowing the effect it could result to for GBEBE especially with the financial concern of the family, asked to adopt GBEBE and cater for his education till he finished his secondary school. The mother couldn't bear leaving her younger child behind, she appreciated the man and rejected the offer, GBEBE was happy with his mother's decision. He couldn't afford parting with his mother after loosing both his father who was his best friend and his Older brother to death. Things happened so fast beyond the comprehension of GBEBE little mind. A week after, they left for Oyo state. They went to stay with the mother's older sister in a room and a parlour apartment. There were no market at a nearby, Mrs HAMZA could not continue the business she is good at but there was a woman, few blocks from their new home. She makes puff puff and buns and give to hawkers that will sell it and return to give her balance of the money for whatever they collected on the eve of that day, after they must have paid half of the money before collecting it. Mrs HAMZA started the hawking business, a month has passed and GBEBE was yet to get a new school, but his mother promised to find him a school as soon as she gather some money from her hawking business. "Mummy may be you should collect buns from Iya ibadan for me to hawk, at least we can get enough for OLORUNGBEBE to start his school soon" _TITO. "I would have done that if it is that easy, This kind of Hawking is not good for your health. But i have talked to AUNTY [Mrs Hamza older sister] and she has been searching for a sales rep work for you" _Mrs Hamza. "Mummy i don't want that kind of job o, i will look for a primary or nursery school around where i can be teaching" _TITO. "Okay i will look around anytime i hawk too, but you know this place is not like where we lived in lagos, teaching job will be hard to get in this small town" _Mrs Hamza. ******************* One day, the mother returned from her hawking, very tired but she was still having half of what she collected in the morning. "Mummy let me help you and hawk" _Tito said "No, the sun is too much and you know your condition. I will hawk again when the sun is set" _Mrs HAMZA "Mummy look at you, you lost so much weight already and you look sick, yet i cannot help you. But where is the God you keep calling every nights days? Mummy i don't understand o" She sobs, and they both started crying uncontrollably. Mrs HAMZA sister, AUNTY as everyone calls her in the neighborhood returned from the farm with GBEBE, they had left home that morning to fetch some firewood. AUNTY was a farmer. They entered the living room and met TITO and Mrs HAMZA in that moody mood, they both wiped their tears. GBEBE went directly inside the room, he grabbed a plastic cup on top of a wooden table beside the 50 liters keg they used to fetch drinking water, he fetched d cup to the fullest and gulped everything. He returned to the living room immediately after. "GBEBE go arrange the firewood we brought in the store" _AUNTY told GBEBE, "AUNTY i'm fed up o" _ said Mrs HAMZA, she couldn't get rid of her emotions. "And you think it's right to be doing this in the presence of your child? You should encourage them" _AUNTY said "Ehhm, TITO call GBEBE for me" AUNTY continued. "Yes ma" _GBEBE. "Will you hawk for your mother?" _AUNTY "YES!" _GBEBE GBEBE had wanted to do that but his mother would not allow him. "AUNTY the boy doesn't know anywhere o" _Mrs HAMZA "Don't worry he won't go far. GBEBE you will take this puff puff and buns and go to the garage [the garage is like a hundred of steps from their house]. Hawk within the garage alone and return back before it gets dark. Do you understand?" "Yes ma" _GBEBE GBEBE gets to the garage, he hawk around, barely two hours after he left home he had sold almost everything, he went from shop to shop and from one person to another asking them if they will buy buns or puff puff, He was very determined to sell everything before he returned home. he sold the puff puff finish, remaining just little buns on his transparent plastic bucket he used to hawk but he continued hawking, he wanted to put a smile on the face of his mother, and he was also eager to return to class knowing if they don't sell all what they collected from mama ibadan she will not give them another to sell. He got to a car and saw two young girls arguing on a topic in physics.. "You are both wrong, that is not the correct definition" _GBEBE "Who is this? _1st girl [Precious] GBEBE who was standing about a meter away from the girls said the full definition of the particular subject they were arguing about and explained it to the core. "Wow!" A voice came from behind GBEBE. The two girls were traveling with their mother to their grandma place in another state where they will be spending their holiday. It was the first term break already. The girls father who saw how the boy displayed his talent in one minute admired what he saw. "What is your name?" _The Man continued "GBEBE" _GBEBE "WHAT!" _The Man asked again. "OLORUNGBEBE" _GBEBE answered again with is full name. "Ok. Where are your parents?" _The Man "My mum is at home, an.. and" At that point GBEBE stopped giving answer, he was scared. His mother had warned him not to talk to strangers. "Don't be afraid i mean no harm" The man bought the remaining puff puff he is carrying and shared them between his two daughters and GBEBE. He asked GBEBE to take him to his parents and the boy agreed. TITO was outside washing dishes. Of a sudden a car was parked in her front, she wondered who they are looking for. She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw GBEBE alighted from the vehicle with an empty transparent plastic bucket he used to hawk. "OLORUNGBEBE what happened?" _TITO It was the Man and GBEBE, his family had left for their journey. "Good evening young lady, please where is your mother?" _ The Man "Mummy! AUNTY !" _ TITO Mrs HAMZA and AUNTY rushed out of the room. "Good afternoon ma'ams, my name is Richard. Is this your son? Mr richard asked pointing at GBEBE. "Yes, hope there is no problem?" _AUNTY "Not at all ma, but why do you let this boy hawk in this Hot sun? _Mr Richard After Mrs HAMZA explained everything to Mr Richard, he looked at them with softened expressions, something akin sympathy. "I have an offer for you, can you allow me adopt this boy?" _Mr Richard "Pardon??! _Mrs HAMZA asked trying to make sure she heard him right. "I'm not asking lightly, i will take care of his education to any level and i will also provide for your family" _Mr Richard "But why are you doing this? _AUNTY "Hmmph [He sigh]. I have two daughters, they are both dullards. The older one is better, they often forgets what they teach them in school. I have employed more than one hundred teachers and educational experts for them but no improvement.. In the end we did some medical tests and it was discovered that it was a genetic disorder that makes their brain not to retain much of anything they learn... "Ehhnn ehn, but what has GBEBE'S adoption going to solve the problem" AUNTY queried before richard could finish his talk. "That is where i'm going ma, there is a solution. The doctor said they needed someone who will be with them most of the time reminding them what they had been taught and talk about it with them. I am a businessman who travelled a lot, their mother is an illiterate, but even if she is not how could she know all they teach them in school..? When i saw the talent in your son, i realized he could be the only solution i have been searching for, knowing that they are almost at the same level in school. Please, i will do whatever you ask of me. _Mr Richard said, hoping that was enough to convince them. THE RICH MAN HAD BROUGHT AN OFFER, THEY WON'T NEED TO HAWK TO SURVIVE AGAIN, GBEBE WILL GET A GOOD SCHOOL. BUT IS THE RICH MAN TO BE TRUSTED? ?? THIS IS A CRITICAL DECISION FOR THE POOR WOMEN GOING THROUGH POVERTY AND HUNGER.. Where as, THEY HAVE NO WEAPON TO FIGHT BACK. Poor GBEBE and His Sorry MOTHER. Episode 4 GBEBE'S mother accepted MR RICHARD'S offer after some convincement from AUNTY, then GBEBE went to live with the man and his family [Wife and two daughter s] at his mansion in IBADAN [Oyo state]. Before GBEBE went to live with them Mr Richard had invited them for a dinner in his house. The mansion is spacious, large and greeted with an amazing view, the exterior of the mansion is superficially decorated with castle rocks and sliced natural stones, reinforced and mirrored glass is used extensively in facade [Front], for Windows and door s which irradiated the environment from the illumination of the over head light bulb that surrounded the fences, the entire mansion ground was floor ed with natural grass with few cuts in the pass way and the garage. there was a squarely built pool close to a garden that was impressively designed with beautiful flowers that present a beautiful sight to behold. "You are welcome to my humble palace" _Mr Richard said while receiving them outside the building. "indeed this is a palace, for i know your palace is imperial than the palace of most kings in OYO STATE in general" _AUNTY said with a wide smile. Mrs HAMZA gave her sister a scornful look before giving a coy smile, with her eyes on Mr Richard' s daughter s who were standing next to their mother while welcoming their guests. "Hey girls, these are our guests, what would you say? _Mrs Richard. "Good evening madams, you are welcome to our home" _They both chorused. "Good evening girls, God bless you" _Mrs Hamza replied excitedly. GBEBE was already imagining himself living with his new family, his eyes were traveling around the places, scanning through everything his eyes come across and he finally concluded in his mind that they are in a paradise, judging from the features of plants, the pleasant and fresh air and the designs, he could imagine the doctrines that God communicated to ADAM in paradise which he had been thought in ILEKEWU [Arabic School], and the beautiful view that balanced the good work of architecture. ************** Mr Richard enrolled him in SS1, same class with his older daughter [Science Class]. The second daughter was in JSS3 then. The man fulfilled his promise by getting GBEBE' S mother a shop where she sells Raw food and other food items, he also got her a 2 bedroom apartment at a place close to her sister [AUNTY]. The man also took responsibility for TITO'S health by getting her a PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE at a popular hospital in IBADAN, same state. GBEBE was just 14 at the time but he knew very well that his family [Mother & Sister] well being lies in his shoulder . At that tender age, he was more matured than most boys of his age and he was more than ready to take up the responsibility.. GBEBE and Mr Richard first child [Precious] was getting along very fast except the 2nd girl [Loveth] who was very stubborn and provoking according to GBEBE. Sometimes PRECIOUS would deliberately buy biscuits or candy in school just to share it with GBEBE, she would save all jokes and funny images she came across online and show them to GBEBE who have not been using phone then just to see him smile. Few months after , during the second term break in school GBEBE asked for permission from Mr Richard on a phone call to visit his mother for a day or two. The Man was outside the country as of the time but he used to call his family in some days of the week and mostly weekend. He was into shipping in of fairly used vehicles from some developed countries to Nigeria and Ghana based on the demand of the car dealers he was working with. Whenever he calls he used to speak with GBEBE to either remind him not to forget his primary assignment or commend him after he must have received some good news from his wife or the proprietor of their school on the improvements of his daughter s academic performances. The man agreed to GBEBE request, he called his driver to take GBEBE to his family the following day and should go pick him on the fourth day. "GBEBE will you be coming back?" _LOVETH. GBEBE who was arranging some few things he was taking with him in his room, kneeling in front of his wardrobe like a servant begging for freedom, looked back and was surprised that the question came from the naughty LOVETH as he would call her. "Yes, you don't want me to go? _GBEBE said finding answer in her eyes. "Okay, PRECIOUS asked to me to tell you to buy something for her on your way coming back" _LOVETH said shyly and raced out of the room before GBEBE could say a word. He smiled triumphantly while zipping up his Echolac. He got to the lounge [Living Room] and saw LOVETH and PRECIOUS sitting next to Mrs Richard [Their Mum] watching a Christian channel on DSTV. "GBEBE don't forget to tell your Mum to give you fresh ugwu to bring for me when you are coming back o" _Mrs Richard. "Alright ma i will deliver your message" _ GBEBE said bending his head as a sign of respect. He took a brief look at PRECIOUS on his way leaving the lounge and she reciprocated with a smile. *************** It was on a Sunday, GBEBE' S mother and TITO were at their new home spending the weekend with AUNTY who came to visit them having being told that GBEBE will be visiting that day. They [GBEBE and the DRIVER] arrived at the front of the house on a LAND ROVER EVOQUE without a single Horn to announce their arrival, GBEBE had told the driver he wanted to bump into the house in surprise, but TITO who was sitting close to the window saw the car and she couldn't hide the joy of seeing her brother and Daddy of the house for the first time in 3months.. "Mummy! OLORUNGBEBE has arrived " They all rushed out to receive him. With joy and tears that filled the eyes of the MOTHER, she hugged her son so deep like a soldier who returned home to his family after some couple of close calls in the battleground. "Ka abo oko mi. [welcome home my husband]" _Mrs Hamza said while embracing her son "You are welcome young man, please come in and take some water and food" _AUNTY to the driver. "No thank you ma, i will be taking my leave now. I will come back to pick him in 3days" _The driver. "God bless you sir, please extend my greetings to MADAM and DADDY" _Mrs Hamza. "I will" _The driver. The driver drove off and they went inside. "TITO oya go bring the rice in the kitchen and bring along the orange juice i bought yesterday" _Mrs Hamza said excitedly. "Mummy are you enjoying power supply in this neighborhood?" _GBEBE. "Power supply ke? They only give us light in the midnight and they used to take it in the morning, but they used to leave it till afternoon sometimes on weekend. We don't know what happened to them today because they took it very early...How about the place you are living? " "The power supply there is 24/7, and if there is a off they have more than one generator to restore the power except when the madam is not around" _GBEBE. "Ehh enn, no wonder your skin is glowing and you are even more taller than when i saw you last" _AUNTY. "They are taking care of me. The only problem i have there are their daughters, precious and loveth, they can be very spoilt and disrespectful at times, Especially loveth the younger one." _GBEBE. "Aawwn, so her name is precious, but the pictures here is saying otherwise little bro." _TITO. TITO was already browsing through GBEBE new smart phone Mrs Richard bought for him. "TITO what are you doing with my phone? Mummy tell her to give me my phone" _GBEBE spats in anger. "Let me see the pictures you are taking about." _AUNTY. TITO handed the phone to AUNTY who only smile after a brief look on the pictures. Most of the pictures are selfie pictures of PRECIOUS and GBEBE in their school uniform and those they had at the mansion where they live. Both PRECIOUS and LOVETH were beautiful, fair in complexion and tall [Precious was taller and she has almost same height as GBEBE]. PRECIOUS was more beautiful. At just 14, she was greatly pleasing and appealing to the eyes like a sunset with a massive, dove-gray-rain cloud, with some brilliant white patch of a turning page catching the sun.. "Don't mind her jare my dear, she is jealous. And trust me, you have my blessing on the choice you made" AUNTY said jokingly and they all busted into laugh except GBEBE who frowned at TITO. Both PRECIOUS and LOVETH were getting better academically even sometimes without GBEBE reminding and tutoring them what they had been thought in school, and their parents never stop getting them medical help too. That night GBEBE called PRECIOUS who was at the moment staring at GBEBE' S number in her phone, contemplating wether to call him first or not. She was mad at him for not missing her, "At least he should have called since he got home this after noon" PRECIOUS said to herself. She picked the call on the second beeps. "Hello PRECIOUS" _GBEBE. "Hello you don't want to call me before abi?" _PRECIOUS. "I'm sorry i was with my Mum and my Sister, my Mum sister too was here today and we have been gisting since. I guessed they miss me so much" _GBEBE. "Hmmmnn, we miss you here already" _PRECIOUS. "We or you? _ GBEBE chuckled. "I don't know. I sent LOVETH to you before you left" _PRECIOUS. "Yes, What do You Want Me To buy for you? _GBEBE. "Anything" _PRECIOUS. On The fourth day, GBEBE was already dressed, he was waiting for the driver to take him back and his mother who was squeezing some fresh vegetables, ugwu and dry paper inside a poly sack for GBEBE to give to Mrs Richard started this conversation. "I know what is going on between you and PRECIOUS" _Mrs Hamza. "Ma?" _GBEBE said in pretense. "You heard me OLORUNGBEBE.." _She spats in anger, and then she continued. "It is natural to feel that way to each other but you have to stop, you hear me?" _Mrs Hamza said holding her ear to depict warning. "I'm sorry ma" _GBEBE said in a sincere voice. "The most difficult and hardest decision i have ever made in my life is to let you go to live with them, i didn't do that so that you can catch fun or merry with their daughters, i did that so that you won't have half education like your older ones. I did that because i want to see you succeed and be useful to yourself in the future... Please don't let me regret this" _Mrs Hamza said in a voice saturated with tears. ***************** Two year s and few months later , GBEBE and PRECIOUS had already sat for their senior WAEC [West African Examinations Council] with loveth still in SS2. They were writing NECO [National Examinations Council] when the WAEC results was released. GBEBE was outstanding in his results with 8A's and a 'C'. PRECIOUS had one 'A' and 8 C's. Mr Richard who was around at the time was happy at the success they both made in their result. Even though his daughter do not have an excellent results like GBEBE had, he was still happy to know his daughter could pass her exam on her own. He took them [GBEBE, PRECIOUS and LOVETH] for a shopping that day and they Visit GBEBE'S mother to rejoice with her. Her mother was so proud that she couldn't hide her emotions. GBEBE would have stayed with his mother for some days but he couldn't since he was still writing his NECO, he left with his new family on the eve of that day. After their NECO exam, barely a week after , GBEBE received a scholarship to study any course of his choice in the UK. Thanks to his WAEC result which was the third best WAEC result through out the nation that year . An N.G.O [Non Government Organization] was sponsoring the best three students in WAEC that year on a 3years undergraduate bachelor 's degr ee at the University of Manchester, united kingdom. He was the over all third best student across the country behind a boy with 9 A' s from ekiti state and a girl from bayelsa with 8 A's and a B2. When Mr Richard hear d of the news he was happy for the boy, but PRECIOUS was not. Not because she was jealous but she couldn't bare to separate with Him. They were more into each other, even precious had once asked her father to adopt GBEBE permanently. Mr Richard understood they are used to each other so he applied same course [HEALTH SCIENCE] GBEBE wanted to study for PRECIOUS in the same university. Both PRECIOUS and GBEBE were happy about it. GBEBE'S mother and TITO visit Mr Richard in his house barely a week before PRECIOUS and GBEBE' S departure to the United Kingdom where they will be spending the next three year s, to thank him for his support and care he's shown the family. GBEBE'S decision to study HEALTH SCIENCE was clear , he had seen his brother and sister suffered health-related issue which could be cure but because the expenses is heavy and there are few numbers of expert around who could treat the disease. He was determined to help reduce the disease and help out those who had lost hope of a cure. ****** After the first year in The University, GBEBE started a research which involved series of experimentation and lab tests, the research Is costly and he couldn't afford the costs so he decided to start a part time job to fund the project. "Part time job?" _PRECIOUS asked irritatedly. "Yes, i want to start the research i told you about very soon and you know there is little i can do in the school lab. I will need to buy some books and visit some hospitals for information, those are not gonna be for free" _GBEBE. "Okay but you don't have to do any part time job. I will talk to Dad and i'm sure he will give us whatever amount you're gonna need" _PRECIOUS. "I know PRECIOUS but your Dad is doing enough, I don't want to ask for any money from him except for the monthly stipend he his sending to us"_GBEBE. "Eh ehn, if that's what you want then we are applying for the job together then" _PRECIOUS. "No no, you k-..." _GBEBE. "Don't tell me no, if you can't ask Dad the money you need then there is no way you are doing this alone" _PRECIOUS said crossing her arms, and she turned her back to GBEBE afterwards feigning anger. they were sitting on a plastic chair that could only accommodate 2 people under a shade at the back of a cafeteria in the campus after having their lunch, it was a garden flourished with beautiful flowers and colorful plants. GBEBE was speechless for seconds, he moved close to her and hugged her from behind. "How could someone that possesses every typicality of an angel be so human?" _GBEBE said with his hands wrapped all over her in an embrace she wished will never end so soon. "Well may be I am, sent to this world to rescue your ass" _PRECIOUS said and they both laughed. After a successful three year s of studying HEALTH SCIENCE at the University of Manchester UK, GBEBE came out with a first class, precious bagged second class and they both graduated that year . Before they returned to Nigeria, GBEBE who did a research on "BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION AS A CURE FOR SICKLE CELL DISEASE" as his final year project, it was the same research he started in his second year in the University. He was invited to present the project at the after -session university seminar wher e some health experts from different parts of the world was presented. "Hello, if you are still in the school right now see me in my office before you go home" _Mr Carlos [GBEBE' s project supervisor] said in a text he sent to him. "Good day sir, I saw your text now" _GBEBE said humbly. "Okay give me a sec.. Sit down please" The man with gray hair in his 60s said with her eyes and attention on the laptop in front of him. he turned to him few minutes after . "There is a good news" _Mr Carlos. "Really sir?" _GBEBE asked adjusting himself. "After your project defense last week, one of the professor that was in the panel asked for your project to be pushed forward in selecting the projects that will be considered for presentation at the University seminar this year, and i'm glad to announce to you that your research was among those chose" Mr Carlos. "Ooh my God! I.. I don't know what to say right now. I'm very grateful to you Sir" _GBEBE said squeezing his hands and with a wide smile that revealed an even, row of white teeth. He told PRECIOUS about the good news when he got to her hostel, they were both staying in the school hostel. "Really? Oh my God! This is a good news and daddy must here about this, you are a complete genius OLORUNGBEBE" _PRECIOUS said excitedly. ******************** His speech on that day; "Good day ladies and gentlemen, standing before you Is HAMZA OLORUNGBEBE. First of all my appreciations goes to my project supervisor for his fatherly advice and contributions on this project, i am happy and proud to be here standing before great experts of sciences from around the world. I wouldn't be here today without my mother's prayer, she is one in a million, i hope i could do more to make her proud. God bless you Mr and mrs Richard, without you i wouldn't imagine myself here on this grand platform. Thank you precious for being the best friend ever, i love you.. This research is addressing BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION [BMT]. For the records, there have been a flood of inquiries about Cure for SICKLE CELL. At present the cure there for sickle cell is BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION [BMT]. BMT for sickle cell is a procedure whereby cells from the bone marrow of a donor [i.e someone with Haemoglobin AA or AS] are transplanted into someone with Haemoglobin "SS". So the question we may want to ask ourselves is "Where do the donated cells come from?" BONE marrow cells are usually taken from the hip bone of the donor, who must have either Haemoglobin AA or AS, usually a brother or sister of the patient Is preferred. But before BMT can proceed, there are some major requirements which must be met. (1) By Identifying the best donor [i.e Best match for the patient], blood tests will determine who the best match is. |
Re: Poor GBEBE And His Sorry Mother. (A Tale Of Mysteries And Emotions) by Oriyomin25(m): 5:29pm On Apr 18, 2019 |
(2) Both the donor and the patient will have pre-transplant evaluations of the heart, lungs, kidney etc. (3) Counseling and interviews with a psychologist are also an important part of the process. Once this requirements are met and completed, the patient will be cured. They will no longer have sickle cell crises and other symptoms of sickle cell. They begin to live life normally like people who are Haemoglobin AA and AS without frequent visit to the hospital. At this point GBEBE'S voice was controlled with emotions, his voice sounded so serious and sad. He stopped for few seconds and then he continued. "One more thing before I round up my presentation. My only sister BOLATITO is currently battling this disease, i chose this course because i felt i could help, everything happened so fast and i think the time is here, but there is no money to finance this expensive operation. I need $100,000 for this procedures. Please help me, he- hel- help my family.. His voice was struggling with tears, he wiped the falling tears with the palm of his right hand.. and he continued. PRECIOUS tried to hold her tears where she was sitting in the auditorium, but her eyes betrayed her and the tears rolled down her cheek uncontrollably. "Thank you and God bless you for listening, God bless the University" Before he completed his last sentence he received a standing ovation from everybody in the Hall. Including the professors and the vice-chancellor of the University, with a loud applaud that could be hear d from ever y corners of the auditorium where the presentation was going on. One week after GBEBE received more than $200,000 [Two hundred thousand US dollars] from various contributors from every part of the world. The news trend on ever y popular social media, the Nigeria president as of the time offer ed him a job to be the personal medical doctor of the the president with a bumper salary... BOLATITO was flown to the United Kingdom for the operation, and with the help of some health experts the procedure was successful and BOLATITO was cured. A year after securing the job of a personal medical doctor of the Nigeria president, OLORUNGBEBE and PRECIOUS married! THE END! Lessons from the STORY; I (1). Never allow poverty limit your goal in life. Whatever you do, put 100% effort. (2). Try and work hard to be useful to yourself and people that look up to you. Sometimes your decision in life do not only have effect/impact on you alone, but could also affect the lives of those who look up to you to make it better , so they can also have a hope.. Don' t be selfish! (3). Education and training is the best gift and legacy a child could get from his/her parents. If the parents can't afford education, they should strive to give their children good technical training. NB: With the exception of a Deranged person, Nobody is useless in life, just lack of orientations... 1 Like |
