Topaz is one of the hardest and most versatile of naturally occurring gemstones. Topaz can be found in many countries, but
Nigeria has the largest deposits of Topaz in the World! The volume of Topaz deposits in North Central Nigeria alone can take the Region to the Next Level. The irony of the story is that Nigeria is not on the map of Topaz producing Nations. The reason is the lack of data on the quantity of Topaz leaving Nigeria daily. The lack of capacity or inability of the Nigerian Government to collect data, especially in the Solid Mineral Sector is one of the major challenges bedeviling the Sector. The volume of Topaz being exported from Nigeria is high compared to other gemstones such as Sapphire, tourmaline, aquamarine, etc.

Topaz can be found in the following states in Nigeria: Nasarawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Bauchi, Kebbi and Oyo. In the subsequent part of this story, I am going to reveal the exact locations where these gems are mined in Nigeria.
