China understood that and gave law for one family one child unless you had a baby girl the first you may try again and after that you train your children. But the focused on economic growth and advancement in technology which allows them support home made goods and services. Creating job opportunities for many and many CEOs of international standard. Nigeria with our little population compared to China can't produce toothpick ,marker ,matchbox etc . We depend on imported goods. So northern part of Nigeria should take it easy on population and focus on skill acquisition.

Ever heard of "One Child Policy" of China since 1970?
They just relaxed it to "Two Child Policy" recently.

Truth is whether government puts in a policy or not..., as long as large chunk of population are chasing few and limited resources, they will control the population by strife, war, violents. This is partly one of the reasons why gorrila wars persist everywhere in Nigeria.

Saudi sells more oil than Nigeria and population is close to population of Lagos- 30m

UAE sells more oil than Nigeria and population of 7million in country is less than Lagos


So population matters even China had to implement 1 child policy during their preindustrial phase.

However, if a Country like Ghana has our kind of wealth, even with corruption factored in, Ghanaians would be significantly better off because they have less population to exhaust such wealth. This is why the well being of a Country is measured in Per capita income basis or income per household. It's not Wise to continue unsustainable populatiin xpansion just cos of the Chinese xample. Scandinavian States have some of the most stable governments and economies cos of population control.

Population is one of the very big factor affecting us in Nigeria. You can’t compare the period Nigeria started civilization to when China started. Let’s forget the fact that we are in the 21st century. The Chinese civilization dated back Years BCE.

Also... China is the most populated country in the world. But you can’t compare our density to theirs. Nigeria has a higher density. The reason is because they have a reasonable land area that justifies their population compared to Nigeria. With China Land area, we can successfully remove up to 11 Nigeria in 1 China.

Don’t also forget China is as well trying to control her population growth as well.

The last thing Nigeria needs now is a geometrically growing population. We don’t have the land for it and we also don’t have the resources for it.

It is not about utilizing the population growth but making sure our GDP equates to the population. It doesn't and that's why we need to manage this situation at the earliest so as not to cause population explosion where what we make as a country won't be able to feed 1% percent of the population.. If you read what he wrote objectively, you will know that he is right. There must be a balance between population growth and economic growth.
Did you know that the China you're comparing with Nigeria, notwithstanding that they have a robust and thriving economy, population control policies has always been enforced since the 1970's, limiting the number of children parents are allowed to have.
We even have an evidence with us, in that the Northern Nigeria is very much poorer than the South because of it's disproportionate population growth.

Once again, another fundamental fact from a critical thinker. Just impressed by how this man thinks. If wishes were horses, he will be my President. Butyoucan go ahead and shudder sir. China has been trying desperately to reduce her population for the past 30 years so you don't have a point there. Once population growth rate exceeds economic growth rate then population is no longer an asset but a menace. That is the troublesome situation with Nigeria at present.

Yes Ben is spot on. Population a problem but uneducated leaders worse. China has since realized that their population was going to be a problem so in 1979 they introduced their "one child per family policy" (juali li 563). If u maintained one child you were legible to govt incentives but if u have more than one child ur taxes could rise 50%. Since then China has tried many other population control policies.

China faced serious social and economic problems associated with overpopulation in past years. Overly populated regions lead to degradation of land and resources, pollution, and detrimental living conditions. Ben Bruce ia actually rewriting Chinas script on us, but China has been battling population growth since the 70s, when we wan start? When its too late?

China success story also began in the 1970s, when they started their transition to a market driven economy. With our poor education and lack of infrastructures our overgrown population is just a mass of poorly educated, poorly skilled people unlike Chinese, whose standard of education and skill is higher than many western Nations.

You are right per the bad leadership angle, but so is Bruce per the population angle. The country you mentioned have positive economic indices growing faster than the rate of growth of their population. Ditto India.

Same cannot be said of the Nigerian situation.

That said, Bruce and his brood of incurably corrupt colleagues are part of the problems we have in this country. Has he for a moment sat down to think of the opportunity cost of what the country spends on them?

What about his debts? Has he ever imagined what might have been if he wasnt such a bad debtor?
