It’s Time For Parents, Churches To Redirect Youth Focus From Materialism Says UMCA President

A clergy man in the United Missionary Church of Africa (UMCA) Reverend Dr. Moses Tswanya, who is also the president of the church has challenged Parents and religions leaders to redirect the focus of youth from materialism that is responsible for high level of immorality in our society to righteousness and piety.

He said this during a press conference organized by the church in Ilorin, the capital city of kwara state yesterday at their secretariat in GRA to celebrate resurrection of Jesus Christ (Easter) and as well remind the general public of the messages that comes with the celebration.

According to him “ we need to thank God for his goodness to mankind and especially to Nigeria, if not God, our condition in Nigeria would have been worse”

“I call on Nigerian Churches to give serious attention to the promotion of love, peace, and equity in their church preaching and all their dealings. It is high time to redirect the focus of our youth from materialism to righteousness and piety, and pay special attention to core family values which are now obviously lacking in our society “

“Jesus came to do the work of redemption, redemption means regaining possession of something by paying price. And it simply mean that Jesus has paid the price, (penalty) for our sin, by offering himself as ransom or sacrifice for our living”

“We must also repent of our sins, and stop sinning no more, because to repent is an essential step in receiving salvation that we need as a country”

He also challenged the federal government to as a matter of urgent look for ways to get Nigeria teeming youth engaged meaningfully either through creation of job opportunities or sincere empowerment that would get to those that truly need it because most of the immorality behaviour like terrorism, Kidnapping, armed robbery, 419 in our society are been carried out by the youth due to the fact that they are too free and desperate for good living.

Meanwhile the Vice President of the church Reverend Olugbenga Odebiri, added that the Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN) is doing everything possible in conjunction with president Muhammed Buhari to bring to an end incessant bombing of churches and attacks on Christians in Northern part of the country.
