whyteteeth: Hello bro, 3.32 is not rubbish, yes, but it is not above average. It's an average outing. I make this statement because 2:1 these days is top 40-50% of students. That is what qualifies as above average or good. Anything lower is average or below average. It pains, yes, but again, it's true. In our days, 2:1 used to be very good. But these days, it is just OK/above average/good/you try. Read my first message to your post and contact me if you meet the course spec 6 Likes |

This one is talking about 2.2. Students should start sitting up from secondary school cos some scholarships and jobs especially with blue chip companies now demand for SSCE in one sitting, 5 distinctions, etc. Even top colleges and universities abroad require you to have a GPA of at least 70% to be considered for postgraduate studies. I did a masters program here in Nigeria that won't accept CGPA below 4.0 Higher level education should only be for the brightest, highly motivated and dedicated students. Education for all should be skills (vocational and technical) education. If you don't do something drastic or have very helpful people around graduation with a 2.2 in modern day Nigeria is graduating into depression or crime. God safe us. Everyone is just so obsessed with university education, even though we're not serious with book work, hence the annual JAMB craze. And most graduate into yahoo yahoo. We should start getting our focus right in this country. Motivate those who are highly geared towards education, the rest should embrace vocations and/or business after secondary school not finishing school and we're talking about N-Power, learning tailoring, etc. That's where the education should have started from. Let's fight the root cause of corruption, yahoo and other crimes: lack of appropriate education and get rich quick syndrome. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Our CGPAs are converted to a 4 point scale upon application to US schools. I know a number that accept a 2.5/4 CGPA equivalent for Msc. and MBA. That's what a 3.3-3.4 will give you. So how high your grade is absolutely matters. OP you need to read up about school applications. In Canada for instance, you can have a scholarship with a nice thesis proposal and a professor willing to work with you. Getting a good school abroad needs time and patience. Do a proper research. I'd advice you check out forums on reddit and speak with like minds. Nairaland is not where you'll get answers. Bifrost: 6 Likes |

OP, you do not have any issue. However, you can do the following: 1. Register for M.Sc programme in UI, UNN, OAU or UNILAG and ensure you pass the entrance exam if you are meant to write one. During your M.Sc programme do your best by having a minimum of PhD grade. After your M.Sc program apply for PhD program that you are qualified for. 2. Write either IELTS or TOEFL and do well in either of two exams. 3. Write GRE if you are interested in USA universities. Do not allow anyone to limit you. You can make it happen. Along the journey you need emotional endurance to sail through. It took me three good years to win a PhD scholarship with my strong undergraduate and postgraduate GPAs whereas a friend of mine with GPAs below mine got his doctoral scholarship 3 years ago and I will be starting mine this year!! 7 Likes |

LordSkinnie: He is not completely wrong, alaye. 2:2 is not above average based on the results we see these days. In a typical school of 2,00 graduating students, nearly half make 2:2. Though I fully agree that the OP's 3.32 is a strong 2:2. The 2:1 guy with 3.52 is not that ahead of him 1 Like 1 Share |

Do your MSC in a very good school here and u will be eligible for a scholarship for PhD if impressive..... 2 Likes |

Mires: Lol, guy, it does not work as you see it. We inspect transcripts!! If someone gets a first by acing the trivial courses, for example, and another person gets a 4.4 2:1 by blasting the more difficult courses, the latter gets an advantage. Grad schools do not just look at the GPA, we look courses too. In PhD economics, someone who did measure theory, real analysis, probability theory at the MATH department is higher, in our eyes, than someone who did some "mathematics for economist" at the ECON department in Nigeria and was scoring 100% 7 Likes 1 Share |

stamapro: Google the scholarship and learn how to apply on your own. It's pretty easy, you don't need anyone to apply for you. Start from now to: 1. Browse Chinese schools offering your course. 2. If the course falls under the scholarship or any other scholarship offered by the school. 3. Prepare your application documents. 4. Look for a Chinese supervisor (not mandatory but will help if you made 2.2) GET STARTED!!! 5 Likes |

Many privileged people on here spuing thrash, especially the arrogant girl/lady who felt insulting the OP all in the name of "the bitter truth". Aunty what school did you finish from? If you went to some state school in the east where lecturers will want to sleep with you or you fail and you don't have anyone to help you, what would you have done? If you found yourself in a department where most of the lecturers are plainly wicked, what would you have done? Never compare your own life with others. Things went smoothly for you in school doesn't mean it will for another. And depending on your course to, because you did a course hat didn't require much, you are now insulting him. Be humble. Stay humble. 8 Likes |

djhispeed: You mean, ALL lecturers will see a hardworking student who will do well, but will try to frustrate him so that he will perform badly in ALL of their courses? I doubt this. In my time, we heard some lecturers were knacking students and collecting bribes, but these lecturers had strong respect for anyone who showed promise in their courses. We also had lecturers who were only interested in students doing well or failing. They have no business with knacking. So, it's hard to agree that ALL lecturers will just be plainly wicked and drag down promising students. Have things gotten that bad to the extent that only bad, bad people are employed as lecturers? Really? I don't buy this oo 7 Likes 2 Shares |
