So if GDP doesn't measure the size of the economy, what does GDP measure?

It is verifiable that Kano State has higher GDP, Budget and IGR than Anambra and you are still arguing with beer parlour talks of Markets and industries.

Anambralstson:

Otondo GDP doesn't measure economy, can you provide recent GDP of Nigeria at least from two to three years ago. Anambra host more industries, Markets than Kano last banks financial reports Kano was far below Anambra.

Bros forget it, nothing special in Anambra State.

The 2018 Human Development Index for Nigeria was 0.511 while the 2018 HDI for Anambra State was 0.471 and it was below the National average.

Source: "National Human Development Report 2018"

Nigeria is a backward country but trying to claim that Igbos are superior tribe economically (or in any aspect) is all bladerdash.

How old are you and what's your level of education sir?

What percentage of Nigerians have bank accounts or deposit money into bank accounts?

So when in 2013, when Nigeria was rated to have the largest economy in Africa, this was done by using Bank deposits as a yardstick?

Is this your (Bank deposits) index according to the World Bank, IMF or London School of Economics?

So any Nigerian who hasn't done any transaction with banks since May-1 hasn't done any economic activities?

What's the GNI per capital of Anambra State sef?

Have you ever realised that with all the GDP Ibadan has , Ibadan though possessing a Federal Airport has a dead Aviation Economy while Imo with its own built State Airport is the 4th busiest in Nigeria only less busy than Lagos , Abuja and Protharcourt Airport, Imo Airport is busier than Kaduna, Kano, Ibadan Kwara Airport, How do you measure GDP when a state like Imo has far better Hotels than all the south west states put together except Lagos , Anambra has larger numbers of Banks than all the south west states except lagos.

The Imo Airport is busier than all the Southwest Airports excluding Lagos Airport

lol
It is easier to say that Onitsha is bigger than Anambra but can you prove it.
Talk is cheap.Ibadan is more developed than the entire Igboland.

What I provided was five years financial transactions from all states, you can see Kano was trailing below Anambra, So how do you measure those that doesn't show presence in banks throughout the year ? GDP has some limitations.

You seems to lack manners and very crude both in logic and approach.

Point to where I said GDP is a measure of prosperity.

Prosperity is a relative and subjective term. What constitute prosperity?
Any universally acceptable index for measuring prosperity?

If GDP is not a good mean to measure the size of an economy, so pictures of individuals' homes, few tarred streets with flowers, round abouts, shopping malls or Google Earth searches being displayed by you and other kids on Nairaland are suitable methods to measure economic activities?

GDP deals in aggregates, GDP per capita in averages. In an age where a huge cause of social dislocation is inequality, GDP has nothing to say about distribution. Averages are misleading. Medians are better than means. A rise in average GDP could actually be retrograde, if it leaves 99% of people resentful at how the 1% is making good. From the Nigeria GDP table below are you telling me Imo state is more economically bouyant than Anambra, Kano and Ogun Or Osun is more economically bouyant than Anambra You should stop fooling yourself

GDP has always been a measure of output, not of welfare. Using current prices, it measures the value of goods and services produced for final consumption, private and public, present and future. Converting to constant prices makes it possible to calculate the growth of GDP over time or the differences between states across space.

But although GDP is not a measure of human welfare, it can be considered a component of welfare. The volume of goods and services available to the average person clearly contributes to welfare in the wider sense, though of course it is far from being the only component. So it is possible to imagine a social welfare function that has GDP as one of its components alongside health, equality, human rights, etc.

GDP is not a measure of “wealth” at all. It is a measure of income. It is a backward-looking “flow” measure that tells you the value of goods and services produced in a given period in the past. It tells you nothing about whether you can produce the same amount again next year. For that, you need a balance sheet - a measure of wealth. Companies have balance sheets as well as income statements. Nations don’t.
When Nigeria was busy selling high-priced oil to the world before the price crash, its GDP was soaring. But its wealth was falling. Oil deposits were used up, but cash was not reinvested in human, physical and technological capacities to ensure future income.

You are the one fooling yourself here for thinking personal opinions or wishes ( often tinted by ethnic prejudices) are better ways to measure the sizes of an economy than the GDP.

The GDP of a State measures the amount of ECONOMIC activities going on in that State at a point in time.

Economic activities include anything that bring money including Farming, Animal husbandry, Mining, Export of cotton, hides &skin, Gum Arabic, groundnuts etc from Kano In additional to economic activities in Bompai industrial Estate in Kano.
Kano , being on the Trans-Saharan trade route has been an important economic centre since the 15th century.

A State like Kano with a huge landmass, about 15-20 million population and 44 LGAs receiving millions in allocation every month ought to have 5 times the size of it's current GDP if we are a serious country.

Anambra is doing well considering it's limited landmass, resources and population thanks to it's human capital development in the last 60years but it will be very wrong to be insinuating that it is or should have a greater GDP than Kano.

GDP can be calculated either through the expenditure approach (the sum total of what everyone in an economy spent over a particular period) or the income approach.... the total of what everyone earned. Both should produce the same result. A third method is the value added approach that is used to calculate GDP by industry.

Expenditure-based GDP produces both real and nominal values, while the calculation of income-based GDP is only carried out in nominal values. The expenditure approach is the more common one and is obtained by summing up total consumption, government spending, investment and net exports.Dunno which method was used by Canbakk.
Why were we happy when GDP was used to claim Nigeria as the biggest economy in Africa?
In the absence of any other economic indices contrary to the ones being showcased by Canbakk,we have little choice except we can disprove what they have presented for different nations of the world.

Onitsha Market is the largest market in West Africa based on geographical size and volume of goods,The average traders in the area are known to bring in at least six consignments of 40 tonnes (40-feet containers) of goods annually. Some of the major importers do more than 200 consignments of 40 tonnes of goods per year. These include jewelry, clothing, household, industrial and office equipment. It is massively patronized by merchants in the North, South-South, even southwest the ECOWAS sub-region including Accra, Abidjan, Douala, Niamey and Cotonou
